You the cat.

Bull shit.

Get on high horses about ELDERY people taken out of hospital and mysteriously deposited in care homes, without possessions, staff not knowing why they are there.... Very sinister and no ppe.

This reminds me of the Harry and Megan threads.the outrage when they decided to quit UK.
The outrage on and on and on. And yet prince Andrew and the epstein scandal paled into insignificance on here Confused

HeIenaDove · 24/05/2020 19:20

@Swiftseason It is possible to be angry at more than one thing at the same time.

RoosterPie · 24/05/2020 19:20

I don’t know if this will die down - I think if it becomes clear the press have emptied their arsenal Keir Starmer will get on it and he will pick BJ apart bone by bone.

If there’s a spike in a couple of weeks, instead of talking about the bank holiday weekend etc people will ask was it because people didn’t feel they wanted to comply anymore which might make the issue resurface. I also think Boris has made it much worse with his appalling performance tonight.

I honestly think Boris made a big error tonight. On the other hand, accountability in politics seems to be a thing of the past in this “fake news” era so who knows?

@SophieB100 thank you Flowers At least it’s
got me out of the house Grin Saw on the old thread you thought I might think you were treading on toes but that wouldn’t occur to me - I didn’t even realise that was a thing! Most of my threads only get about 4 replies (if any!!!)

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 19:21

I was agreeing with you ffs, Swift. All of what you've mentioned is utterly awful. Cummings and Johnson being lying twats doesn't make any of what you've mentioned any less important.

I've said similar to you. Our 'lock down' has been woefully inadequate and too little too late.

Alsohuman · 24/05/2020 19:28

But, I guess to the extreme left.. Dominc Cummings is the easier obvious target

It seems virtually the whole country is the extreme left today in that case.

hablar · 24/05/2020 19:35

I think people will do what the hell they want this Bank Holiday, including visiting relatives they haven’t seen in months in different parts of the country; friends over for barbecues; piling into national parks and beaches. I was just inHyde Park and it’s like a “normal” Sunday, They may as well not bother with these daily briefings any more because they have lost people’s trust. The sense of unity is gone.

People just won’t pay the fines if they’re apprehended out and about and they’ll go on holiday wherever they can and “act on instinct” when they return.

Some twat on Sky News saying the behaviour of the people objecting to what Cummings has done is worse than that of Cummings himself.

Heres a reminder of a news item from around Easter so around the same time. Man told he couldnt be in his own front garden.

DC did what he did because he knew he could get away with it. If the police had stopped him, he would have just said that BJ had said that he could do it.
And to think I worried about a 4 mile round trip to collect cat medicine from vet FFS!
Key worker colleagues have been quizzed by police whilst out...
Contemptuous behaviour by people who should be leading by example...

I'm not extreme left by any stretch. I'm mostly Lib Dem or moderate Labour. I'm just a mum who has been ill with COVID-19 symptoms and my family were self-isolating for several weeks.

It never occurred to us that it would be appropriate to travel long distance to be near extended family in case we needed help with childcare. Because we would have worried about putting other members of the public at risk of catching my germs.

We also took the government advice seriously..

Anniegetyourgun · 24/05/2020 19:47

Why are you all so concerned about what ONE man does and doesn’t do? Surely like me and lots of other people up and down the country, you have other more pressing concerns right now. Maybe not, but I know that I have ie work, finances, children etc. I haven’t the time or energy to be concerned about anything else.

What kind of person spends scarce time and energy rummaging on Mumsnet for a thread on a specific subject just to explain why they haven't got time or energy to be concerned about said subject - and then makes several posts on same thread over a couple of hours to explain to everyone who is concerned why they shouldn't be?

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 19:49

If I was in their situation l would have told any police who stopped me.. I was trying to get for my family and child

MorganKitten · 24/05/2020 19:50

Why are you all so concerned about what ONE man does and doesn’t do?

When you help write the lockdown rules and break them I and everyone else has a right to judge him.

@Swiftseason

^I've felt rage listening to our so called medical experts and their evidence... When this is a novel virus and not much bloody evidence to back up anything..
However, having armed myself with information and not waited for anyone to spoon feed it to me... I've followed what I think are sensible rules^

I don’t understand why you are better placed to assess risk than medically trained people, given that you accept that this is a novel virus. Why the ‘rage’ against medics when you ‘armed’ yourself with information?

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 19:52

Morgan he didn't necessarily break them though.
He might have done but at this stage. No. He helped his family. Confused

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 19:54

Arf, so hope, do you personally think it was acceptable for Cheltenham to go ahead? Or Madrid /Liverpool.

Was that sensible? Or did it go against '' common sense '' Confused

Dominic Cummings facing possible police investigation as pressure mounts
Exclusive: retired chemistry teacher Robin Lees makes complaint to police about alleged trip to Barnard Castle

Dominic Cummings is facing a possible police investigation under health laws over a claim that he breached self-isolation rules in north-east England, after a weekend of mounting pressure on the prime minister to sack his chief adviser.

Retired chemistry teacher Robin Lees has made a complaint to the police after reporting that he saw Cummings and his family on 12 April walking in the town of Barnard Castle before getting into a car, a joint investigation by the Guardian and Mirror can reveal

Lees’ alleged sighting of Cummings in the town - 30 miles from Durham where the aide had been self-isolating after developing Covid-19 symptoms - appeared to come while he was still ill, according to his own account. Writing in the Spectator last month, Cummings said: “At the end of March and for the first two weeks of April I was ill, so we [Cummings and his wife] were both shut in together.”

At a Downing Street press conference dominated by questions about Cummings’s movements during the lockdown, Boris Johnson did not dispute that his adviser made a trip to the Tees Valley beauty spot.

Asked directly about the Barnard Castle visit, Johnson said: “When you look at the guidance, when you look at the particular childcare needs that Mr Cummings faced at the time, it was reasonable of him to self-isolate as he did for 14 days or more with his family where he did. I think that was sensible and defensible and I understand it.”

Lees said Johnson should have provided clearer answers. In an email to Durham police sent before the Sunday press conference, he alleged a breach of health protection regulations that officers will be obliged to investigate

It said: “At the time I felt the three people getting in the car might be breaking lockdown rules. However, in light of recent information I feel that as well as an important breach of the lockdown there may also have been concerns over Health Protection regulations.”

He also provide number plate details of the car he saw Cummings drive away in. The email said: “I assume you are able to view CCTV to ascertain whether this vehicle travelled locally or from further away.”

Responding to Johnson’s appearance at the press conference, Lees said: “Asked directly if he visited Barnard Castle, he didn’t answer it, because now I’m totally convinced he can’t. He wasn’t clear whether Cummings had the virus or when he drove to Durham. He wasn’t clear on any details of the 14-day quarantine. He needs to be clear when symptoms started and when they finished.”

Durham police has yet to respond to Lees’ email but the Guardian understands the force is considering whether it needs to take any further action in relation to Cummings.

As well as Lees’ complaint, the leader of the Liberal Democrats group on Durham County Council has demanded the police open an investigation into whether Cummings broke the 2020 Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations.

Councillor Amanda Hopgood said she had written to chief constable Jo Farrell because there was a clear public interest in establishing the truth and seeing if lockdown regulations had been breached, potentially on multiple occasions.

Hopgood said: “I have sent a letter to the chief constable asking them to see if [Cummings] has committed an offence under section 15 of the health protection coronavirus regulations.

“I would hope the chief constable would investigate to see if an offence has been committed. There have been so many different versions of what has happened, an independent investigation by the police is needed.”

Durham police are now expected to assess complaints they have received and decide whether further action is needed, such as an investigation, and would be proportionate.

Among senior police figures there was ridicule of the claim that Cummings’s decision to act on “instinct” justified his actions. One source closely involved in lockdown policing said: “That is a new one on me.” One senior police figure said the rules were crystal clear about not travelling.

hablar · 24/05/2020 19:55

Hopefully there are some pictures still to come out for tomorrow’s papers? Plus an investigation.

I don’t think this is the end of it. I hope he brings BJ down with him. Shocking.

Anniegetyourgun · 24/05/2020 19:55

@AnyFucker You've got a daughter, haven't you? Take her along and they can't touch you. OK, I understand she's a little older than Cummings's sprog, but your child never stops being your child, am I right?

I wanted to take my youngest aged 23 to be cared for by his elder brothers, but they're in Scotland and I don't want to be confronted by Nicola wielding a claymore. If only they'd had the decency to stay south of the border.

HeIenaDove · 24/05/2020 19:55

I hope Lees wont face the same vitriol that Boris and Carries neighbours did.

Swiftseason · 24/05/2020 19:55

Mittens would you take public transport, otherwise why would it not be sensible to get to family?
