Re: Dominic Cummings

In response to the fresh claims, Downing Street said: "Yesterday the Mirror and Guardian wrote inaccurate stories about Mr Cummings.

"Today they are writing more inaccurate stories including claims that Mr Cummings returned to Durham after returning to work in Downing Street on 14 April.

"We will not waste our time answering a stream of false allegations about Mr Cummings from campaigning newspapers."

The utter ARROGANCE of it. Reassuring the public that a senior member of government isn't a lying corrupt twunt isn't a waste of time. It is actually breathtaking how little they seem to care about public opinion.

I thought you meant your son Blush

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 24/05/2020 10:46

Me too. Profuse apologies to your son OP.

Rose789 · 24/05/2020 10:50

I thought it was from your son too Grin

LouiseTrees · 24/05/2020 10:50

Would be funny if it was Charlotte Johnson Wahl ( Boris’ mum) commenting on here!

NearlyGranny · 24/05/2020 10:52

They'd want to be really, really sure DC was telling the truth. I think the main paper concerned would be very careful to be sure of the story before publishing. It's not hard to prove where you were on a given date normally, but in lockdown it gets trickier. If DC really did go on a jolly after the dash north for childcare and return, he'd want to be very sure he hadn't left a trail.

Brazening it out with a big lie looks bad when you're caught out.

riveted1 · 24/05/2020 11:08

ahaha, maybe I should go along with being Boris' mum and give him a right ticking off Grin

OP posts:
mumwon · 24/05/2020 11:15

& of course the local police were "mistaken" about talking to the family when they were up there

Ultrasoft · 24/05/2020 11:17

I know, the sheer front of the Tories objecting to "campaigning" newspapers Grin

But we do know Boris wants to be Donald

KrakowDawn · 24/05/2020 11:19

Maybe you're Cummings' father...because Durham police say they were invited by DC's father to speak with the family?
Hi Mr Cummings, welcome to MN Smile
Dad's are welcome too.

SandieCheeks · 24/05/2020 11:23

To be fair this is exactly what my 9 year old does do when caught out in a lie - stick to the story however clearly it’s a lie and just pile more and more lies on top until you have no way out Hmm

Zaphodsotherhead · 24/05/2020 11:24

All this talk of DC and DS being up to no good...

I keep thinking it's family talk!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/05/2020 11:26

Reassuring the public that a senior member of government isn't a lying corrupt twunt isn't a waste of time.

Probably of little effect, though, to any voters who weren't born yesterday....

Sparklfairy · 24/05/2020 11:28

It's like'the script' you see so often on the relationships board, only politics Wink

Fallsballs · 24/05/2020 11:28

Sounds like Dominic wrote it.
Maybe they are working on the premise if you were stupid/misguided enough to vote for them you’d be stupid enough to believe and defend them. Certainly seen a few examples of this.

feebeecat · 24/05/2020 11:29

Sounds like Trump tbh

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 11:33

Yes I do wonder who is calling the shots right now.

BJ? To keep dirty secrets that DC will use to take him down with him?

DC? Because he's the real head of the Tory party but BJ had the better public facing personality?

Lee Cain(?) is that the guy who organises the media? Maybe someone should dress as a chicken and chase him around wanting to know why they are not willing to make a statement beyond a refusal to engage.

Lynda07 · 24/05/2020 11:35

I also thought you were talking about your son.

I don't doubt for a minute there is a lot of misinformation about Dominic Cummings at the moment.

Just from reading threads on Mumsnet, plenty of people have travelled far during lockdown because at the time they felt it was the best thing in their circumstances; they took necessary precautions and no harm was done apart from them being flamed. They were stupid to even mention it on here, frankly, nobody would have known otherwise.

Dom Cummings must have had reporters outside his house, following him up the motorway and goodness knows what else. I am so glad not to be a well known person! If I decided to go somewhere, who'd care or even notice? I don't, am happy to stay at home indoors for the time being but have no resentment against anyone else, I'm no curtain twitcher.

What's done is done, I'm bored with it and the story must be taking attention away from more serious matters. I don't think anyone has died because of what he did.

BruceAndNosh · 24/05/2020 11:35

I'm pretty sure that Cummings wrote that Press release

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 24/05/2020 11:43

* I don't think anyone has died because of what he did* if he stopped at a motorway service station (and I'd be surprised if any 4 year old could do that distance without a toilet stop) you dont know that no one has been infected and died as a result

Saladmakesmesad · 24/05/2020 11:44

Pretty sure Cummings’s people are behind some of the defenders on Twitter and here too. It’s either that or people are genuinely so thick they actually believe the shit they’re spouting.

Do not let up. Do not let this fade away.

ChicCroissant · 24/05/2020 11:45

Yes, Dominic is doing the 'pick me' dance with Boris Grin

Ultrasoft · 24/05/2020 11:46

How can anyone possible know if anyone died?. He moved, with symptoms, to what is now (but wasn't then) the most badly affected part of the country and he must have stopped on the way. Who knows what happened as a result of that?

riveted1 · 24/05/2020 11:48

@Lynda07

DC knowingly drove himself a considerable distance, with active CV symptoms, to his elderly parents. Also alleged that he left the household to go out in public.

In terms of relative risk that's high up there! (Short of actually walking into a care home Hmm ). Obviously we'll never know the number of chains of infections his actions set off, but it's pretty fucking irresponsible.

If my dh and I were jorh displaying symptoms, we would have nobody to look after the dc's.
Damn right we would go to my dsis's and live in her annex, just as DC did, so our dc's could be cared for.
It's not as if he was in the same house.

I really don't get all the hoo haa about it.
