To think if Boris won't sack Dominic Cummings then Boris should go?

madroid · 23/05/2020 20:16

Boris Johnson will have known Dominic Cummings broke all the rules of lockdown and self-isolation by taking his covid-19 wife to County Durham 260 miles away to his elderly parents' home.

Boris will have known that Dominic Cummings then went back again two weeks later.

Boris has told the rest of the cabinet to defend Dominic Cummings now he's been found out.

AIBU to think Boris should go too?

I agree Boris should resign. He would have known about this and has defended DC.

Boris will go, but not soon enough. He needs to be removed now.

NorthernChinchilla · 24/05/2020 11:40

I am fucking appalled by this behaviour. Like @rainylake my husband and I are key workers, adult SS and Police, but able to work from home. I say 'work', but home schooling an 8 year old and managing a feral 4 year old impacts on that.
My poor mother who is incredibly disabled fell and broke a bone...brought on rapid onset dementia...she's now in a home and calling me saying she wants to die.
I would give anything to see her but I can't. Wish we had a second castle in fucking Durham that we could relocate to.
Bastard

tara66 · 24/05/2020 11:41

KuckFnows - I have never voted Labour or Liberal but I signed the Change petition and also greatly regret the calibre of the Labour and Liberal parties (and obviously the Conservatives). I believe the people were lied to about reasons for Brexit. Will never vote for them again. As the saying goes - a country gets the government it deserves.

pontypridd · 24/05/2020 11:43

This will have affected a huge percentage of the population in a visceral way.

It will never be forgotten.

The Tories are destroying their own party in thinking they can just skip over it.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 11:43

Chinchilla, I'd argue its common sense you can see your mother, as the daily mail guy did yesterday. Presumably you're following the guidance as it stands as opposed to applying your own caveats? More fool you, more fool all of us.

Parker231 · 24/05/2020 11:45

The big plus of Cummings breaching the lockdown is that it will speed up Boris’s departure as MP!

Donttakeno · 24/05/2020 11:46

I think Boris will have to go once this pandemic is over. He has behaved awfully and has shown he is not fit to lead. He was only ever meant as a pin up boy for get brexit done not for any real life emergencies!

NorthernChinchilla · 24/05/2020 12:00

@StealthPolarBear, had to read that a couple of times as I was ready to get angry then got the tone! Sorry.
Yep, no visiting in hospital or the home, and rightly so. So she may well die alone and confused and abandoned. But these are the sacrifices WE have to make.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/05/2020 12:01

He isn’t going anywhere

He is just won the Tories a very very comfortable majority

There has always been a number of Tory MP’s that have been open in their criticism for him but they won’t overlook that

Maybe a year before the next election but not now not with Brexit

InfiniteSheldon · 24/05/2020 12:12

We should have Government and trials by Social Media that way we can ignore common sense and any sense of normal perspective. We can safely ignore the majority just allow any one to start a PC bandwagon and that will be the foh dation of any rule. We can then have Corbyn as PM, be a socialist state completely revoke all Women's rights, without NHS support to Tory voters and Remain in the EU it will Eutopia I'm telling you Eutopia.

WantToLeaveButItsHard · 24/05/2020 12:15

@IWantT0BreakFree excellent posts, well articulated.

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2020 12:17

No, Johnson should stay and be held accountable for his and the governments actions.

Sacking him would be the easy way out.

MaxNormal · 24/05/2020 12:20

Why are people still shitting on about Corbyn of all people? Change the fucking record.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/05/2020 12:22

No, Johnson should stay and be held accountable for his and the governments actions

I absolutely agree

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 12:22

"So she may well die alone and confused and abandoned."
I really really hope not. If it does come to that, from what I've been hearing te staff in these situations are really wonderful. I suppose they are full of empathy. Plus if she is dying, you should be allowed to visit - I don't know the logistics of that for you. My grandad was in a care home, no visitors allowed. On the Monday morning my mum got a phone call to say he was on end of life care. On the afternoon she and my aunt were allowed to visit separately for as long as they wanted. He asked after my cousin's baby who was due. They left at bedtime and apparently his last words were "will you switch the light off for me please"

JudyCoolibar · 24/05/2020 12:31

Why on earth would we have a back bench MP like Corbyn as PM, @InfiniteSheldon?

Right now, I would be a whole lot happier with a competent leader like Starmer. But you don't want to acknowledge his position as Opposition Leader because he shows Johnson up for the bumbling fool he is.

JudyCoolibar · 24/05/2020 12:33

Boris was voted in with an 80 seat majority

No, he wasn't, his party was. If you don't know or understand basic constitutional processes, I'd suggest you need to go away and educate yourself before commenting further.

Pleasenodont · 24/05/2020 12:34

Bojo needs his catchy slogans so Cummings won’t go anywhere and this will be completely forgotten in a week or two.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 24/05/2020 12:39

Boris won the election, and with a thumping majority, so who do you think is going to oppose him ?. Cummings is under pressure but he’s a tough but to crack. He will survive.

Schmoana · 24/05/2020 12:40

I think for the police to be respected this bank holiday weekend, by all those people who will be breaching lockdown, he has to go.

seriousandloyal · 24/05/2020 12:44

I am another person who is much more angry about Government ministers lying and saying that what Dominic Cummings did was within the rules when we all know it isn't than the lockdown breach itself. We all know that if someone has symptoms of coronavirus they have to stay home. I have emailed my MP to state that I object to being lied to directly. We are not wrong to demand that Cabinet Ministers are better than this.

Serin · 24/05/2020 12:45

Poor Boris
As if it's not bad enough that his bumbling drunken bum act is wearing thin with the public. He now finds himself having to endure Wednesdays up against the clearly intellectually superior, calm and coherent Kier Starmer.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/05/2020 12:49

Can you think of any other prominent Tory MP that would have won such a comfortable majority

I can’t. It was made easier by the rejection of Corbyn and Co and the disaster that was the LibDems but Boris Johnson has always been popular despite his behaviour and actions both personal and professional.l he is like Teflon nothing sticks. Why I’m not sure a number of factors but he is undeniably popular and a vote winner. Tories know this they might despise him but they won’t be behind getting rid of him right now

And he was popular long before DC came along there will be another in the wings who can replace DC. His greatest achievement was Brexit and the success of the last election that’s down now he isn’t needed in the same way

Look how Trump has got rid of all his advisors when it has suited him has it made a difference to his popularity or his presidency absolutely not if anything it cements his supports with many as a President who won’t waste time on unnecessary political wrangling

madroid · 24/05/2020 13:02

What on earth are you on about @InfiniteSheldon ??

we can ignore common sense and any sense of normal perspective. is that what you think DC did? Travelled the length of the country with a highly contagious, potentially deadly virus-infected passenger because he was worried about having to ask for help if he stayed in London?

Then did the same journey again two weeks later?

All during a pandemic.

Then said he didn't care what anyone thinks or how it looks.

Where's the perspective in there?

It's outrageous. And the only thing more outrageous is that Boris Johnson who we've all trusted to guide us through this crisis (and his cabinet) are supporting Commings' actions.

No common sense or perspective there.

@KuckFnows you could have scrolled on by, instead you come on and are downright rude!!
