To think if Boris won't sack Dominic Cummings then Boris should go?

Boris Johnson will have known Dominic Cummings broke all the rules of lockdown and self-isolation by taking his covid-19 wife to County Durham 260 miles away to his elderly parents' home.

Boris will have known that Dominic Cummings then went back again two weeks later.

Boris has told the rest of the cabinet to defend Dominic Cummings now he's been found out.

AIBU to think Boris should go too?

Oh give it a fucking rest

@KuckFnows What are your thoughts on Cummings' actions and the support from the Tory party?

(I'm def not Labour btw, nor a Tory)

JudyCoolibar · 24/05/2020 09:44

Anyone who differs from this and who has a different opinion gets shouted down.

So what's your justification for trying to shout others down, @KuckFnows?

Lostvoiced · 24/05/2020 09:50

They should all go.

I imagine this thread will fill up with people complaining about the labour majority on MN, though I see more of them than of actual labour supporters.

Does your allegiance to your political party blind you to their utter incompetence? I would be furious no matter who was doing this nonsense.

absolutely.

ive voted for many different parties- i've never understood this partisan/tribal thinking which means you cant discuss incompetence or bad decision making in a govt. blind loyalty i guess is more important than critical thinking.

Youngatheart00 · 24/05/2020 10:01

I am a conservative voter and am appalled by the latest antics. Not every opinion has to be partisan or tribal. The tories can do shit stuff. Labour can do good stuff. And absolutely vice versa.

"Does your allegiance to your political party blind you to their utter incompetence? I would be furious no matter who was doing this nonsense."

Indeed. Being a Conservative voter - or indeed a Leave voter - doesn't mean that you've agreed to sign up to the personal cult of Dominic Cummings, or even Boris Johnson.

WelcomeToTheNorth · 24/05/2020 10:06

My god I cut my husbands hair the other day for the first time. What an atrocious experience that was for all concerned.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/05/2020 10:07

The have defended him so far (I’m surprised by how much)

Boris Johnson is going nowhere he will see DC off in a heartbeat he has no loyalty to anyone and he has no doubt been planning this since yesterday when it became apparent the press will not let this go

But I suspect DC will have to be offered a nice role before leaving

Helmetbymidnight · 24/05/2020 10:10

fiver on dc not going?

Somerville · 24/05/2020 10:11

Boris should go either way - he's clearly not up to the job. At a time of national emergency we see him once a week - if that - at PMQ's. and when we do hear from him, he talks garbled blah. Even the people I know who voted for his party are dubious about whether he can cope, with his health shot.

cushioncovers · 24/05/2020 10:12

Why are some people so indignant that BJ isn't at the daily press conferences? He's been ill and become a parent recently and is probably working behind the scenes so that's most likely why he's not there. Who cares if he's on tv everyday it won't make a bit of difference to how we handle this virus 🤷🏻‍♀️I'd rather listen to the scientists and experienced Nhs staff anyway. And nope I've never voted Tory

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:16

He's the prime minister. The leader. You don't lead behind the scenes in a national crisis.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:18

And if his illness and new parenthood status is impacting on his ability to lead the country he should step aside and let someone else do it, whose concentration and ability to lead isn't affected. This is one job that cannot be done half heartedly, even during 'normal' times, least of all now.

Megatron · 24/05/2020 10:21

100% agree with this.

cushioncovers · 24/05/2020 10:24

But he's part of a team imo. He's not a supreme ruler. He's just part of the government. Most of what he says is information given to him by his aids so why not let them talk instead🤷🏻‍♀️ I just don't get the outrage. We are still receiving the same info, just from a different person in the same government party as BJ anyway. We all know his bumbling when talk is because he's reading the script he has been given by other people so why not hear it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

NearlyGranny · 24/05/2020 10:25

'm wondering that, Ultrasoft! I ordered a cheapish scissor, comb and clip set online, it arrived on Friday, I watched 3 or 4 YouTube videos and yesterday I cut DH's hair any my own! Mine was much harder as it had got really long. I put the back in a low ponytail in a rubber band and got DH to chop through it, so I have a '20s flapper bob now.

Don't be assuming anyone who looks halfway smart has been sneakily having forbidden visits to the salon - the results really surprised me. I'd attach pics if it weren't outing.

Findingapath · 24/05/2020 10:25

Cummings should be forced to go. But it won’t be under his own steam. He doesn’t care what we think or what ‘looks good’ (his words!). He sadly has control over the majority of the population and how they think about the current government, and they are good at manipulating what their supporters think. I just wish they could open their eyes and see what the rest of us see.

DateLoaf · 24/05/2020 10:25

I feel like they want to hold on to Dominic Cummings at whatever cost to government credibility because DC is actually running things.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:27

So if you're saying there is little point to having the prime minister then why do we have him at all?

NearlyGranny · 24/05/2020 10:27

And Cummings must go if the second trip story is true. He might survive the first but not the second. It makes the PM and the cabinet look either gullible and stupid or hopelessly hypocritical.

When the advisor/spin doctor becomes the story, their time is up.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:27

The role is leading. Yes being advised yes delegating, but being a figurehead and retaining accountability.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:28

If all we need is for the information to be imparted to us why bother with the briefings? They could just stick the detail up on the Web and let us read it if we want.

Somerville · 24/05/2020 10:29

It's not just the fact that he disappears for week/s at a time. It's his performance on the rare occasions we see him. And now we see that he's allowed (or not the had power with his staff to prevent) something incredibly serious - the trashing of months of public health messaging, which have been altered at will to protect his advisor.

Watching Shapps on Marr this morning - apparently 4 year olds "can't feed themselves or dress themselves" so it's okay to ignore local support to skip quarantine and move, with symptoms, the length of a country to a second home where family can provide support (though not dressing or feeding the 4 year old, it turns out, only dropping off groceries Hmm Hmm).

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:35

I suspect we all know people with small children who got it but
Stayed home
Protected the NHS and
Saved lives
But just muddling through. I certainly did.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2020 10:35

I know people I mean. I'm lucky enough to have not had it and my children are much older and could cope.
