Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 14:28

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

Why dont you watch it yourself and decide?
Ard you afraid it might corrupt you as an adult?

It s just a kids cartoon.

Embracelife · 23/05/2020 17:17

You are allowed to watch kids programme without the kid you know...so you can check it out first. Why would you not decide for yourself?

EndlessUserName · 23/05/2020 17:19

I love Peppa pig

However, as always, too much TV is bad for children in that it takes them away from real playing

raviolidreaming · 23/05/2020 17:27

I HATE all the negativity around Peppa Pig. It's one of the few popular children's programs with a female lead and she gets slated as 'precocious' 'bratty' 'whiny' 'bossy' and loads of other horrible words only used to describe girls.
It's actually fine, she's just a typical 6 year old really, a bit annoying and thinks she knows it all (but what six year old doesn't?) mixed with funny and kind. There's a few jokes for parents there to, there's definitely much worse programs out there

Absolutely this.

raviolidreaming · 23/05/2020 17:28

Bold fail. All those years that I was banned from commercial channels and only allowed Cindys - never Barbies - were for nothing.

Snowcappedmountains · 23/05/2020 17:32

I don't get the Peppa hate at all, I think its great.

Snowcappedmountains · 23/05/2020 17:33

Ben and Holly is good too

begoniapot · 23/05/2020 17:37

Peppa pig is brilliant. It's really funny and has a nice sly sense of humour.

Nanny0gg · 23/05/2020 18:13

@dorapie
LittleMissBrainy I say that! I also think a lot of the hate is completely class-based. Look at all the pp on this thread who can't stand Peppa but recommend Hey Duggee, which has a similar animation style, jokes aimed at parents too and basically the same type of humour. I love Hey Duggee too, so I'm not bashing it. But people like that, yet because Peppa is mass-market popular and heavily merchandised it MUST be rubbish (because I am far too middle class to like that sort of thing).

What a load of tosh!
Hey Duggee is very witty (some of Peppa is I admit), is truly educational - the episode on water is ace.
The animation/drawings are way better than Peppa
The charactarisations are on the whole, better

And it has Alexander Armstrong who is the perfect narrator for it.

Ben and Holly is the comparison to Peppa (and again, is better)

It's sod all to do with class!

hfrdgftcsdg · 23/05/2020 18:15

It’s an absolute life saver. They just start liking it when you feel Lomé you can’t survive another day. Then bang, suddenly they’ll sit and watch 30 mins of Pepps. I vote you download a ten hr back to back version from YouTube and feel the joy.

JanewaysBun · 23/05/2020 18:31

Peppa herself is obnoxious and annoying but I really enjoy the show. Always fun when granny and grandpa show up.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 23/05/2020 18:46

We used to watch Peppa Pig yes she is a bit precocious but daughter soon grew out of it....pretty sure it hasn't scarred her. If it gets you through lockdown, happy days!

lucindalovescats · 23/05/2020 18:47

Papa pig is fine, all the bad press is around peppa being a bit naughty but theres no bad messages there. Let the poor boy watch!

SheldonSaysSo1 · 23/05/2020 18:52

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with Peppa Pig. However, CBeebies have plenty of more educational programmes such as number blocks, Octonauts, Go Jetters, Something special etc.

Paulolina · 23/05/2020 18:54

It's just fucking nonsense for parents that can't be arsed parenting

Ginntoniconpause · 23/05/2020 18:54

There's worse things. In The Night Garden gives me the creeps. There's something a bit Stephen King about it for me.

Something cracks me up about how Miss Rabbit and Mummy Rabbit refer to each other as "sister" to their face. I love Peppas pissed off face too with the squinty eyes though. There is something irritating about how they all drop to the floor on their backs and cackle at the end of an episode though. Does anyone else think that pedro looks nothing like a pony? They've got seriously questionable dance moves- ones that my son has totally embraced.

If you're looking for it to be educational OP just mute it, put the subtitles on and boom- he's reading.

Jellycatismyspiritanimal · 23/05/2020 18:59

I love Peppa! Also I think the episodes give lots of simple and cheap ideas to do as a family after watching, such a making pizzas, crafting paper airplanes, gardening etc.

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 19:07

Say what now?

It’s a TV show. Are you familiar with these? What they do? Grin

SueEllenMishke · 23/05/2020 19:09

Paulolina
Oh bugger off

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 23/05/2020 19:09

My DS 2 love it! I myself am not very keen as Peppa herself is rude and annoying but my son loves George.

Plus, look out for the adult jokes in there 👀 they really make me laugh.

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 19:10

I’ve never understood the ‘Peppa is obnoxious’ line. She’s a typical pre-schooler. I bet if she was a boy there would be no complaints.

Raaaa · 23/05/2020 19:15

There's always one

@Paulolina

Shmithecat2 · 23/05/2020 19:17

Peppa is savage. The time she hung up on Suzie Sheep because Suzie could whistle 🤣💀

Daftodil · 23/05/2020 19:20

My 2yo DS loves Peppa Pig. I'm not keen on Peppa herself, but the stories are ok and there are few jokes thrown in for the parents too. Be careful though... I've heard that there are some doctored episodes on YouTube with Peppa Pig doing awful things (knives, blowjobs, swearing etc.)

If you have Netflix, try Little Baby Bum (nursery rhymes, counting songs etc). Alphablocks and numberblocks on iplayer are great for that age too.

IPityThePontipines · 23/05/2020 19:22

Mr Wolf asking what the Pig house is made of and Daddy Pig saying “Bricks. So don’t even think about it 😏”

That does it. My youngest is still secretly a bit fond of Peppa Pig so I think we're going to have rewatching session soon. We'll sneak in some Ben and Holly too.

As for

It's just fucking nonsense for parents that can't be arsed parenting

You aren't really showing yourself as a gleaming role model to be taking parenting advice from.
