Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

Also Moon & Me

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 16:14

and Mme Gazelle’s nervous tic at the mention of glitter

Love that.

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 16:14

Any suggestions on shows that are good for encouraging kids to be nice to animals and pets? Ds is mean to the cat despite me keeping a close eye on them.

When my son was younger, he started saying 'no' to everything we asked him to do (I.e, eating, getting dressed, or anything in general), and he got quite stubborn, and it went on for a while and got quite frustrating.. we soon learned that he got it from George in Peppa Pig 😩 We did stop him from watching it for quite a while, and he soon forgot about saying 'no' to us. We eventually gave in and let him watch it again, on the basis he did not copy george. We also had a similar problem with 'horrid Henry' lol.

LEELULUMPKIN · 23/05/2020 16:16

I'm amazed no one has mentioned "Cousin Chloe" she is a right "mean girl" and puts Peppa firmly in her piggy place.

Mammyloveswine · 23/05/2020 16:19

It's fine, I find some bits quite funny

Wheresthebiffer2 · 23/05/2020 16:19

OP you say you've only heard bad things about it. You mean you have never watched it? Well, before you make a decision about its suitability, WHY NOT WATCH A FEW EPISODES? I promise it won't harm you, or your child. You will be able to make an informed decision about this extremely serious matter - and you never know, you might be surprised, and find you both love Peppa and co.

mamma2457 · 23/05/2020 16:22

Love Brian Blessed as Grampy Rabbit! And my favourite episode is when Mummy rabbit is pregnant - the pregnancy and hospital jokes are brilliant! 🤣

I think Peppa is fine. I think she's the kind where in other kids she comes across a bit bossy and know-it-all, but when it's your girl you love her smarts and independent spirit 😁

Bringmewineandcake · 23/05/2020 16:24

You'll hate Peppa until you've watched Bing. Then Peppa becomes tolerable.

There are a few annoying episodes but it's fine on the whole.

Oblomov20 · 23/05/2020 16:25

Eh? What's wrong with Peppa Pig. Bad reviews? Why? Hmm

SecondaryBurnzzz · 23/05/2020 16:26

Can't you just put Cbbeebies on? All of that stuff is good (although I last watched it about 7 years ago.) but DD used to love Timmy Time.

Funnyface1 · 23/05/2020 16:27

It's fucking ace.

Rachie1973 · 23/05/2020 16:27

My favourite episode is the one where Peppa hangs up the phone on Suzy Sheep when she realises she can whistle lol

Boom!

Oblomov20 · 23/05/2020 16:28

" I heard bad things"

Like what?

ILikeSardines · 23/05/2020 16:32

What on earth is wrong with Peppa pig? It's great and has loads for the grown ups to laugh at. Brian blessed alone at the lighthouse 'since Tuesday'. Miss rabbit doing every job in the world. The tortoise called Tiddles that keeps getting stuck up a tree Grin

They honed their comedy skills, Ben and Holly is genuinely funny. That is a work of genius! Going to the moon with the elf NASA. Acorn day! My, you've got a fast hamster Wink the other snobby king and queen.

Love it and so does dd2 still. She's 10!

ILikeSardines · 23/05/2020 16:33

That wasn't supposed to be a wink lol

sanityisamyth · 23/05/2020 16:35

I hate cartoons (was never allowed to watch them when growing up) but I think Peppa is fine. My DS watched it when he was younger and hasn't done him any harm!!

kayakingmum · 23/05/2020 16:37

My daughter watches one thing and that is PP. We recorded them on the PVR and we watch 5 mins of it (ie one episode) every morning with our morning tea. I have only deleted one episode I didn't approve of (about needing a best friend) but over all I think it's a good cartoon.

Louiselouie0890 · 23/05/2020 16:40

The only thing bad my kids took away from it was the annoying whingeing George did when he didnt get his own way. I stopped them watching it

Wnikat · 23/05/2020 16:53

My husband has started saying "I'm a bit of an expert" in a Daddy Pig voice and now I'm going to have to LTB.

dorapie · 23/05/2020 16:59

@LittleMissBrainy I say that! I also think a lot of the hate is completely class-based. Look at all the pp on this thread who can't stand Peppa but recommend Hey Duggee, which has a similar animation style, jokes aimed at parents too and basically the same type of humour. I love Hey Duggee too, so I'm not bashing it. But people like that, yet because Peppa is mass-market popular and heavily merchandised it MUST be rubbish (because I am far too middle class to like that sort of thing).

I always assumed Peppa was rubbish until my DD got into it, and I have fallen in love with it. The relationship between Peppa and Suzy is wonderful and my favourite thing about the show.

ShebaShimmyShake · 23/05/2020 17:02

Good God, Peppa Pig is a class divider now? Mumsnetters will never be able to keep up among the cake smashes, prop pineapples and penis beakers.

TildaTurnip · 23/05/2020 17:02

Give me Peppa, Ben and Holly or Duggee over Sarah and Duck (yawn)

Rosebel · 23/05/2020 17:13

Can't bear Hey Dugee. Watched it with my nephew and ended up wanting to stick pins in my eyes. What's the betting new baby will love it when he's a bit older?

Pipandmum · 23/05/2020 17:15

What's wrong with it? It's one of the few shows I liked watching too (Charlie and Lola was another favourite).
