Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

The Bbc iplayer kids app is really good op. Lots of great stuff - including many of the shows mentioned here.

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 19:26

@daftodile he really likes word party, it’s a shame it doesn’t have it translated into Spanish though.

I think you’re being a bit silly. It’s a charming show. My 2 year old has actually learned a lot from it. Putting on sun cream when it’s hot, wearing wellies to jump in puddles, brushing teeth before bed. He doesn’t kick up a fuss about any of them because he’s seen it on Peppa!

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 19:27

@Twolittlebears sadly I can’t get iplayer or cbbs in this country so I mostly use Netflix and YouTube except last month when we had free prime!

@HarryHarry I read bad reviews, I came on mumsnet (parenting site) to see what other parents thought not sure how I’m silly tbh. Being silly would be watching bad reviews and straight away saying no.

Tbh I’m more surprised by how strong views people have over a poorly drawn pig.

My children were mad about PP. My dd carried a PP figure around for about a year. Couldn't be parted from it and it was tiny so we lived in a constant state of terror that we might lose it. They're teens now and neither them still talk like, quote, or behave like PP or George believe it not. I don't get all the angst round it, let her watch it.

Shmithecat2 · 23/05/2020 19:35

@Nameisthegame get yourself a decent VPN and you can watch anything you want.

Samtsirch · 23/05/2020 19:41

I think they should bring back The Wombles, they were great 👍🏼
Unless they already did and I missed it..

VodkaCranberry2 · 23/05/2020 19:45

I watched borat with my 6 week old last night. Very nice!

berryhead2013 · 23/05/2020 19:48

Peppy is a rude obnoxious little twat and the amount of fat shaming daddy pig gets is horrid
I stopped peppy in our house as the kids started talking like her not in I'm afraid but each to their own

Pebbleinthesand · 23/05/2020 19:48

My DD loves Peppa but whenever she sees it now she say 'Mummy and Daddy don't like that' because we've tried to steer her away from it. Didn't like the naughty behaviour and the fat shaming of Daddy Pig.

She loves Number Blocks and Hey Duggie so they're firm favourites at the moment.

ILikeSardines · 23/05/2020 19:49

'Peppy is a rude obnoxious little twat '

She's not real Grin that reads really funny

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 23/05/2020 20:00

Peppa pig is ace. And so is Ben and Holly.

littlejalapeno · 23/05/2020 20:01

That episode at the fairground where they tell mummy pig women aren’t very good at fair games, and her eyes narrow and she wins Peppa a load of pandas 😂

The more I watch Ben and Holly the more I’m convinced it’s about class struggle.

Wallywobbles · 23/05/2020 20:26

I loved Peppa Pig. We're in France and it is so gloriously middle class and British.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 23/05/2020 20:28

Christ. DS is 8 and we still watch it. Love it! It's not a slasher flick fgs. Peppa pig on YouTube no tho.

Viviennemary · 23/05/2020 20:30

It looks pretty dire. But no worse than anything else toddlers like. Tellytubbies is worse I'd say. Let him watch it.

Sometimeswinning · 23/05/2020 20:33

Watch it first. I have children asking to watch stranger things (that was a no) Kindley something on youtube (painful) Peppa pig. A right of passage surely? Annoying but harmless!

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 23/05/2020 20:35

Put on Hey Duggee and Tee and Mo. Sorted.

Incrediblytired · 23/05/2020 20:41

Hey Duggee is mental - like an acid trip.

Peppa Pig is fine. Very very occasionally she’s a pickle but that’s not the theme of the show and there are lots of positive messages about sharing, taking turns, wearing a coat in the rain and boots to jump in puddles. It’s harmless and the episodes are about 4 minutes long which is ideal.

mistermagpie · 23/05/2020 20:44

I never noticed the 'class struggle' element of Ben and Holly (admittedly I've never watched it particularly closely) but now I can't unsee it!!

Bienentrinkwasser · 23/05/2020 20:48

I can’t stand Peppa so my DS has never seen it. Somehow a few Peppa books have snuck in with some secondhand stuff. He bloody loves them 🙄

mamaoffourdc · 23/05/2020 20:58

All of my 4 have watched Peppa pig and we all have fond memories of it

namechanger0989 · 23/05/2020 20:59

It's not that bad and sometimes quite funny with some underlying adult humour. Poor daddy pig always gets taken the piss out of though!
