Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 14:28

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

Peppa pig’s fine, it’s bing who’s the worst. Can’t stand that bunny

TheLashKingOfScotland · 23/05/2020 15:49

My ds got more of an attitude watching Pingu than he has anything else
This made me laugh Grin Pingu has such an attitude about everything!

Peppa Pig is fine. The relationship between mummy and daddy pig always made me laugh. And the mummy fire brigade service episode was fab.

If the characters behave badly, you can always point it out. You don't need to endorse it. Obviously Peppa and Susie's relationship is co-dependent verging on abusive but you can point that out using words a two-year-old would understand Wink

justamumof1 · 23/05/2020 15:51

At least it's not that little cunt Masha (from masha and the bear).

My DD has turned in to a rude little madam ever since she starting watching that little shit.

Strokethefurrywall · 23/05/2020 15:51

I'd refuse to let him but only because Peppa Pig is the most annoying piece of shit television ever made.
Cute at first but pretty soon it's the only thing the kids want to effing watch and all you hear in your head is that annoying fucking voice and George pigs incessant wailing.

My kids are 8 and 6 and I'm still scarred from the nausea inducing theme tune.

SarahAndQuack · 23/05/2020 15:51

Grin I now have visions of 30-something Peppa and Susie in therapy, @TheLashKingofScotland.

Cyberattack · 23/05/2020 15:52

Completely fine to watch imho

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 23/05/2020 15:52

I'm not a fan of Peppa, DN loved it, I thought the characters were a little rude at times and there's so much branded merchandise it feels like it's essentially just an advert so your child nags you for Peppa branded tat. It's not the end of the world though.

DS didn't get any screen time until lockdown, too busy and he's only just 18 months, but he has now watched a bit of Shaun the sheep (or Shaun das Schaf , my netflix thinks I'm German) and hey Duggee. The only notable impact has been an increase in (Duggee) hugs for us, the cat and his toys and quite a lot of woofing when he sees dogs in the street! I remember Wallace and Gromit from when I was a child so Shaun's for me rather than him really and Hey Duggee is very gentle.

I love a bit of peppa. Probably one of the most watchable kids programmes out there. It has loads of funny bits aimed at the adults. Sometimes she’s a brat but I haven’t really noticed my kids trying to be peppa

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 15:54

i cannot imagine being so uptight that you decline to watch peppa on the basis she is not well behaved

Absolutely this, but MN never fails to deliver.

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 15:57

Paw Patrol makes me want to stab myself though

SarahAndQuack · 23/05/2020 15:59

Yeah, I don't like Paw Patrol.

I can totally understand banning something because it makes you want to kill things. Not so much because it's a bad influence, but each to their own.

ThornyR0se · 23/05/2020 16:00

It’s hilarious.

The whistling episode. Peppa’s expression as she hangs up on Susie Sheep 😁

Mr Wolf asking what the Pig house is made of and Daddy Pig saying “Bricks. So don’t even think about it 😏”

“CHOP THE TREE DOWN!!”
(the answer to everything in our house)

Little DGD loves it 😁

HoppingPavlova · 23/05/2020 16:00

What’s meant to be the issue with Peppa Pig?

TurquoiseDress · 23/05/2020 16:00

PP is everywhere!

Your 2 year old will eventually end up watching it somehow!

caoraich · 23/05/2020 16:02

I find peppa intensely irritating. The animation and the grating accents really bug me. Thankfully my 20mo isn't too interested in it.
Hey duggee on the other hand is a masterpiece. It's on netflix and iplayer. Sarah and duck is good too.

WhiskersPete · 23/05/2020 16:03

Sarah & Duck is great. Also Hey Dugee. Furchester Hotel also good. DD is 20 months and loves these.

DontStandSoClose · 23/05/2020 16:05

I’ve let both my children watch Peppa, neither are delinquent 4 and 2 year olds. They got very bored of it about 12 months ago anyway. It’s quite funny really both our children sound quite “posh” despite growing up in a northern town and being looked after by my very northern parents. They say baaaarrrrth and graaaaaarrrrrss etc. The pig is the only explanation we can think of.

I don’t really see the issue and can’t say I got worked up about it. I bet you are the sort that only allows little Atticus to have organic fruit and veg though 😆.

Crystal87 · 23/05/2020 16:06

It's fine. It's an inoffensive cartoon for little kids. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill here, love.

Stinkycatbreath · 23/05/2020 16:07

I think you are over analysing this OPGrin

Bookoffacts · 23/05/2020 16:07

It's not that bad. Why don't you watch an episode yourself on YouTube and make own decision. Seems odd to deny child it.

ThornyR0se · 23/05/2020 16:08

... oh and Mme Gazelle’s nervous tic at the mention of glitter 😂

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/05/2020 16:09

Peppa pig is fine. Then wait until your dc is 10 and discovers Scottish Peppa Pig. Now that’s not recommended for little kids btw. Google it and spot the different. The former, fine; the latter, fabulous for fatigued parents and caregivers.

commercial channels are what the hoi polloi watch

I wasn’t allowed to watch Tiz Woz ffs. I used to sneak it on!

userabcname · 23/05/2020 16:10

I like Peppa Pig. She's quite feisty and funny. I'm not sure where the idea that she is so bad comes from - she's not that bad! Also Daddy Pig is hilarious.

MsChatterbox · 23/05/2020 16:11

I took peppa pig away from my son for the same reason. I wrote my own thread about it and got quite a hammering haha 😁

quarantinevibes · 23/05/2020 16:12

Try Ben and holly instead. They’re not rude like peppa but same sort of thing, a lot of the same voices/ actors. I love puffin rock btw Halo
