AIBU?

Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

I HATE all the negativity around Peppa Pig. It's one of the few popular children's programs with a female lead and she gets slated as 'precocious' 'bratty' 'whiny' 'bossy' and loads of other horrible words only used to describe girls.
It's actually fine, she's just a typical 6 year old really, a bit annoying and thinks she knows it all (but what six year old doesn't?) mixed with funny and kind. There's a few jokes for parents there to, there's definitely much worse programs out there.

My son watches tractor Ted alot too. I recommend that from r toddlers!! Educational. Jolly songs. No loud silly characters. They get to watch animals, harvesting and food being made.

Infact it's the best program my knowledge da have ever watched.

Oh Christ. We watch a LOT of Peppa Pig in our household.

Also Paw Patrol, Hey Duggee, & Ben and Holly.

I have two lovely and well behaved toddlers.

That should say the best program my kids have ever watched

Peppa pig is awful, it's also not long enough for you to get anything done while your child is occupied!

Ben and Holly is far superior, no idea what they didn't make more of them.

I can't stand paw patrol but Hey Duggee is nice. My youngest son actually only enjoys stuff with real humans in it so we watch a lot of CBeebies things like waffle the wonder dog and Let's play. I have seen every episode of graces amazing machines about 1000 times! Oh and Blippi, bloody Blippi!

You don't have to watch it, plenty of other things. I find peppa is a spoilt brat and george in a cry baby. Thankfully we don't watch it anymore

I got DS to the age of 2 but unfortunately his dad doesn't listen to a thing I say so there was big tantrums when I said no to watching it because he knew what it was, its crap and not educational but entertains them.

It's worth watching Ben & Holly just to spot the obvious underlying sexual tension between Nanny Plum and the Wise Old Elf.

Yy to the whistling episode of PP. It's practically Fleabag-esque.

Whatever you do OP don't let your DC watch Fireman Sam then.

Naughty Norman is little shit!

I think Peppa pig is great, it's funny and DD loves it. I'm really interested to know what rude thing your DD learnt from it Jazzled?

huh?? i had no idea that people had issues with Peppa Pig. I certainly don't (but five year old is no longer keen anyway)

Only comment i've heard is that it helps children speak with nice manners - Peppa is good at the 'please' and 'thank yous' so they sound better if they mimic her.

Paw Patrol is waaaaaay more bland and painful

Why don't you watch an episode and see how it goes?

It's annoying, but will do no harm. There are lots of other shows out there appropriate for toddlers though, which are much better.

Peppa is ok, a few funny bits in it. I particularly like the episode Grampy Rabbits Lighthouse 😂 it's not one of the educational ones but apart from her being mildly cheeky at times its harmless.

The only one we have had a problem with is Bing, my dd1 who is almost 3 tends to behave badly after watching it. It has now been banned.

Fair enough, @bringon. Maybe the poster who made the comment just has more imaginative children than you're used to? I mean, mine is perfectly capable of imagining a stick is Elsa at the moment, so a black bunny being black wouldn't be an impossible stretch.

My son loves Tee and Mo. Also Timmy Time. His all time favourite is Meic Y Marchog (he watches S4C mainly).

Yeah I just tell my DD that peppa is a cartoon and DD shouldn't act like that in RL. Good lesson I think!

Ben and holly is the same with nanny plum taking the piss out of the wise old elf but DD doesn't imitate her as she's not a child character I suppose.

Hey Duggee is great but DD is over it. The stick badge is the best episode! 😂

I don't like it but it's not damaging.

Watch Ben & Holly or Hey Duggee instead.

(Timmy Time is awful now it has narration)

I think Fireman Sam is more educational, personally.

Ooh, yes, Tee and Mo! I love the episode where poor Mo has to listen to endless noise during the car journey, then Heidi is playing the same fucking tune on the beach.

DP and I reckon Mo and Heidi are an item, btw - either that or Heidi would like them to be. She's always randomly turning up where Mo is.

(Before anyone accuses me of diversity, this is pure bored speculation, no need to rap me over knuckles for gayifying children's TV.)

We’re fine with Peppa Pig here. There’s plenty of worse children’s shows out there.

But if you’re not sure about it, why not watch a few episodes by yourself when your DS is in bed, and see what you think of it?
The episodes are short, only about 5 minutes long each, so it wouldn’t take up too much time.
