Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 14:28

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

@Oblomov20 wow what bitch hole did you crawl out of? English is my native language I have dyslexia. Tbh I think it’s odd that there’s 14 pages of people who care. I’m going to leave this thread now after taking into consideration what people said and watching a couple of episodes myself. Thanks for everyone interest and all you vipers can slink back into the depths of mn and find someone else to bother.

Each episode is 5 minutes. Just watch a couple and decide for yourself.

Macncheeseballs · 24/05/2020 11:58

Ski4130 - so daddy pig is 'hen-pecked'? That's a slightly misogynist term? Why not go the whole hog (scuse pun) and say hes pussy whipped

thunderthighsohwoe · 24/05/2020 12:03

Peppa Pig makes me want to bang my head against a wall - but if it kept her quiet so I could film some videos for my class I'd happily let my toddler watch it.

She prefers Bing. If you think Peppa is whiny...

Ski4130 · 24/05/2020 12:06

Macncheeseballs - mainly because it’s a children’s cartoon and I can’t/won’t give it that much serious thought. You fill your boots though!

ChristmasCarcass · 24/05/2020 12:08

I cannot imagine being so uptight that you decline to watch peppa on the basis she is not well behaved.

I like Peppa Pig. It is aimed at least 50% at parents. It captures the bossiness of a certain type of officious five year old perfectly (the one you try to avoid having round on play dates). And Brian Blessed is amazing as Grandad Rabbit.

But DS has started copying (shouting Yuck! No! Etc like George), and frankly at two he doesn’t have the social or language skills to understand why it’s rude. George and Peppa are amusing because they are such little brats. Two year olds can’t see that. Four year olds, absolutely. But aged two he isn’t really following the stories, he’s just copying the catchphrases.

Bing says please and thank you a lot, OP. Similar pre-schooler horizons, more focus on friendships and playing nicely. More appropriate aged two, IMO. Peppa will still be there in 12-18 months.

Macncheeseballs · 24/05/2020 12:09

Ski - Isn't that the problem with casual sexism though? that people don't give it much thought

Taddda · 24/05/2020 12:09

So, what do we all think of Teletubbies then....Grin

ChristmasCarcass · 24/05/2020 12:12

Taddda Are they still on? They were on tv when i was a child! Grin

Ski4130 · 24/05/2020 12:14

Macncheeseballs - possibly, but in this instance it’s discussing Peppa Pig, and I used hen pecked without it bothering me, so I guess it’s about how deeply you want to look into casual sexism in relation to a 46 year old, tired, mum of three during lockdown. Personally I think he is hen pecked, and laughed at a lot, beyond that (and my kids stopped watching Peppa Pig many years ago, so again, really haven’t had to think about it much since then!) I really don’t think about Peppa Pig all that deeply.

rivertoskateaway · 24/05/2020 12:18

I stopped my son from watching Peppa as he kept repeating things that I didn’t like him saying. He still says that the password to get in his bedroom is “Daddy’s fat tummy” which is the password Peppa uses in the show.

Oblomov20 · 24/05/2020 13:00

I don't think it's obnoxious. If someone has an usual posting style, or if English isn't their native tongue, it means they may have been bought up differently, or have different native idiosyncrasies.

If someone has SN, or a diagnosis, it's easier for other posters to understand if they say so.

It's a big drip feed to find out later.

Taddda · 24/05/2020 15:15

Are they still on? They were on tv when i was a child!

@ChristmasCarcass Ooohhhh they're definitely still on my friend....I've just relented and bought the set of talking 'press the belly' cuddly ones....even when they're not on, they're always on at my place....🤯

Gre8scott · 24/05/2020 18:39

It's brillantwe even when to peppa pigworld it's so funny especially if you havent slept!!!

MinorArcana · 24/05/2020 19:01

I think the Teletubbies episodes on CBeebies now are a revived version, rather than the original Teletubbies episodes from the 1990’s.

timeforawine · 24/05/2020 19:05

Never let mine watch it and she's nearly 4, thought Peppa was a brat and the snorting drove me mad (my goddaughter watched it). She loves Peter Rabbit, Go Jetters, Octonauts, Hey Duggee and the Andy series (dinosaur, safari etc)

Taddda · 24/05/2020 19:20

Has anyone discovered 'Blippi'....my 2 year old Dd adores him, but the fella is mental! It's quite a good learning one, but he's like Mr Tumble on Acid!

(I did a wiki search on him, bit of a 'strange' past, but the programmes harmless...although I've slowly been ousting it from the watch list....!)

Shmithecat2 · 24/05/2020 19:26

@Taddda my son likes him but my views have been clouded since discovering the kind of things he used to get up to before children's entertainment. 🤢💩

Taddda · 24/05/2020 20:02

@Shmithecat2 💩 indeed! Weird huh!? Always worth a google on the questionables, but had to re-read that one!!

Quackersandcheese3 · 24/05/2020 20:20

Peppas not too bad I don’t think. There are way more annoying cartoons. Good ones are Sarah and duck , hey duggee and raa raa the lion on I player.

Fluffybutter · 24/05/2020 20:31

I’m a Ben and Holly fan,myself .
Absolutely loved Nanny plum and I’m gutted dd is way too old for it now

Timesdone · 24/05/2020 20:45

Stuck to Pingu

Taddda · 24/05/2020 20:52

Morphs a new winner here- !

What 'vintage' ones wouldn't you let your DC watch now? I'm always tempted to YouTube a few (Fraggle rock, Button moon, Trap door...!) But think I'd have to rewatch them all first...I loved Fraggle Rock, but I remember the giants were a bit scary!?

Shmithecat2 · 24/05/2020 20:53

@Taddda I've also sent the video - pass me the eye bleach 😬

Shmithecat2 · 24/05/2020 20:53

Seen, not sent!
