Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

Peppa is an almighty brat but if you pay attention to it there's a lot of positive learning in there too.

At least that's what I'm telling myself Confused

Stripeytopgirl · 23/05/2020 23:00

The old peppa pig episodes are much better, she does get a bit bratty and entitled as the episodes go on if I’m honest.

& she mugs daddy pig off for his big belly all the time, which is a bit harsh 😂 but then daddy pig is an insufferable know it all so maybe he deserves it. George is cute, my favourite actually.

It’s really not that bad OP, he won’t be tearing about shouting fuck you all after watching it - put it that way.

Mangofandangoo · 23/05/2020 23:01

Also they are very mean to poor daddy pig

Squidwitch · 23/05/2020 23:03

Wouldn't you rather your children thought you were enjoying what they were enjoying, rather than a veiled sexual/mature/criminal innuendo

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 23:08

Just watched the kite episode it was quite slice of life, and although Peppa was a bit mean saying her brother was doing it wrong she also didn’t get it right, daddy pig climbing the tree had a similar outcome but it was all pretty positive and polite.

runrabbitrunrunrun · 23/05/2020 23:15

Watch it if you don’t mind comments like ‘mummy you’ve got a fat tummy like daddy pig’!

Toybox88 · 23/05/2020 23:20

Peppa Pig is brilliant. She is a very polite well spoken child who will encourage your child to say please and thank you. The episodes are 5min which is perfect for little ones' attention spans. And Daddy Pig is comedy gold.
Just watch it and make your own opinion.
I love it.

LaurieMarlow · 23/05/2020 23:22

I reckon my children would be ultimately relieved their parents don’t have the same sense of humour as a pre-schooler

rather than a veiled sexual/mature/criminal innuendo

Because all adult humour is like this. Hmm

Of all the batshit on here. There’s always someone raising the bar.

HarryHarry · 24/05/2020 03:44

I’m curious about why people think Peppa is a “spoiled brat”. To me she just seems a bit cheeky but it’s quite cute. Can you give examples of her bad behaviour? Is it just her frequent mentions of Daddy Pig’s big tummy?

HarryHarry · 24/05/2020 03:45

Daddy Pig is my ideal man 😆

Purpleartichoke · 24/05/2020 03:48

Peppa pig is one of the least obnoxious kids shows ever made.

HarryHarry · 24/05/2020 04:03

Sorry OP I just read your reply to me. I should rephrase what I said. Of course I don’t think you’re silly for wanting to check out a show yourself before you let your kid watch it. But I do think people on here are silly for not letting their kids watch PP on the basis that she is spoiled and rude and badly behaved. I don’t think she is at all. She’s just a normal cheeky little 5 year old. I’m genuinely surprised that people feel the need to protect their children from that.

The only thing I really dislike about the show is the way it presents Edmund Elephant being a “clever clogs” in a negative way and how Peppa often dismisses educational activities like going to museums as “boring” (though she is always proved wrong). I don’t want my 2 year old to have the idea of finding things “boring” when there’s still so much out there to discover!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 24/05/2020 04:22

My niece picked up the accent from Charlie and Lola. We are in Yorkshire but for a time she was walking around sounding like the queen.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 24/05/2020 04:24

Another vote for Peppa Pig being a little brat here! Nothing cheeky or loveable as far as I can see......

I didn't mind the show itself, but Peppa's character was awful.

As I have no scruples whatsoever I still let my DS and DD watch it 😅 I particularly enjoyed it when my DP would catch them watching it. He took real offence at how Daddy Pig was always portrayed as stupid and wrong and how Mummy Pig was always right - I've never seen an adult identify so strongly with a cartoon character before 😅😅

Rosebel · 24/05/2020 04:55

The older episodes are better I agree. Grandpa Pig is brilliant, especially the way he built a fort for the children in about 3 seconds.

midnightstar66 · 24/05/2020 05:28

Peppa pig is quite annoying but it's not actually aimed at middle aged women so we aren't best placed to comment. My dc have long since out grown it but they loved it as toddlers. Just don't put on the dubbed versions on YouTube. DD's teacher once put on Scottish peppa pig for the class as their topic was scotland at the time. She was very red faced apologising to parents at the end of the day! If your child is emulating bad behaviour from tv shows it's probably better to deal with that now before he starts watching Horrid Henry or, yano, slasher movies. Avoiding all programmes that depicts any sort of bad behaviour, for life isn't really possible so better to deal with it as it arises so he learns it's not ok. Re watching CBeebies etc you can use a vpn blocker and access geographically limited content that way. Obviously it won't be in Spanish though (perhaps there's an option to translate, I've never checked) I imagine you'll find episodes of their content on YouTube too.

Marahute · 24/05/2020 06:15

YANBU! I put an episode on once when DS requested it... the awful snorting was enough to put me off. We haven't watched it since. I'd go so far as to say I prefer Bing to be honest! Shock
We like Hey Duggee, Sarah & Duck, Twirly Woos, Kit & Pup, Yakka Dee, Number Blocks.

DS is a bit older (4) but also enjoys Maddie's Do You Know?, Octonauts, Paw Patrol (awful but bearable), Nick Cope, Catie's Amazing Machines.

Don't put it on if you don't want to, there's plenty of other stuff to watch.

BertieBotts · 24/05/2020 06:38

I think Peppa Pig is great. It even had moments that are amusing to adults.

I don't understand what exactly it is she does that people reckon is bad behaviour.

splishsplashsploshsplishsplash · 24/05/2020 06:38

My favourite episode is the parking fine one. Pc Panda gets a parking ticket for illegally parking on a public highway and gets told "just goes to show, no one is above the law" just after he'd given daddy pig a parking ticket. I'm easily amused these days.

geojojo · 24/05/2020 06:45

I love peppa pig. I actually think it's really sweet and funny. What bad influence could it have?

Bellesavage · 24/05/2020 07:16

I love Peppa. People moan about no strong female role models and then say Peppa is awful. She's an opinionated strong female lead who takes no BS. Brilliant.

Jenniferturkington · 24/05/2020 07:21

One of my dc used to love it. She’s 11 now and still calls big spiders ‘mr skinny legs’.
Seriously though, it’s just a cartoon. It is one of the better ones for parents too as there are things aimed at the grownups that go straight over the dc’s heads. Infinitely preferable to bloody Bing!

AtaMarie · 24/05/2020 07:29

I can’t believe all the overthinking about a children’s cartoon about a pig!

We loved it. My children devoured it and despite this grew up with lovely manners and respecting their elders.

Taddda · 24/05/2020 07:48

@splishsplashsploshsplishsplash

....my 2 yr old Dd sings your username constantly! 🤯

I think it's more important to let them watch something that's not going to eventually drive you insane, their all pretty bland compared to the stuff I grew up with!

....'Blues Clues' is a new favourite for Dd1, Dd2 anything mad like twirly woos.... I keep switching it up though (thank you Sky, Netflix, Amazon, Disney plus.....👍🙏)...

I'm quite lucky they're both very dancy so can get away with just having some music/nursery rhymes/soundtracks on for most of the day in the background💃🏻....

BiblioX · 24/05/2020 08:04

My nearly-3 year old daughter loves Peppa and I’m so glad she had been watching it as we have had to see doctors and hospital recently and she understood and Was very enthusiastic even when having intrusive procedures; said doctor was like Dr Brown Bear (in the program). We also talk about the things that Peppa does that we don’t, etc, etc. I have older teens and one of them loved Peppa when young, she has always been the kindest and most compassionate/thoughtful of mine.
