Not to let 2 year old ds watch Peppa pig?

Nameisthegame · 23/05/2020 14:28

I have Netflix and there’s big images of Peppa pig and he keeps asking to watch it but I’ve only heard bad things about it. Is it really that bad ? I’m torn because I personally think I’d hate sitting through it and have heard it’s pretty bad animation and Peppa shows unpleasant behavior with a positive resolution, we currently watch things like puffin rock etc...

Why post when you're already decided not to watch it?

My DS are teenagers now, we loved it daddy pig is fab, mummy pig works , peppa is a brat sometimes but so are most children at some point grown up, whether they watch a cartoon pig or not!

littlejalapeno · 24/05/2020 08:22

Wait until you find the bing bong song stuck in your head. It’s funny the first time...

Taddda · 24/05/2020 08:49

@littlejalapeno I sang the 'bing-bong-bingidy-bongidy-booooo' one out loud in Sainsburys once....think I might've got away with it if my Dd's were with me at the time instead of people giving me the 'stare and swerve'.....

These songs get you!

Nameisthegame · 24/05/2020 08:59

@justkeepmovingon if you read my posts you would see that I watched it, ds has now watched a couple of episodes.

Has it ruined him yet

Taddda · 24/05/2020 09:32

@Macncheeseballs Grin

littlejalapeno · 24/05/2020 09:36

@Tadda Grin I’ve defo unconsciously sung it in the garden, and heard my neighbour (who also has small kids) laughing her arse off

rena8282 · 24/05/2020 09:52

I'd heard this too and was reluctant but now I've seen it it's one of the few programmes I'm comfortable with her watching.

It's actually got about 50% female characters which is pretty difficult to find (don't get me started on the Elmer books!) and everyone is well mannered and calm. It's great, no drama. The only challenge I've heard is from a friend's husband who says 'you can tell it's written by a feminist, Daddy Pig always gets a hard time'. (In that they good-naturedly tease him and he joins in.)

I watched one episode of Paw Patrol and it was basically five boy dogs being awesome and saving the world while a chihuahua in a purple helicopter cheers them on for doing a great job. 🤮

Nameisthegame · 24/05/2020 09:57

@Macncheeseballs he had his first wee in the potty, take from that That you will.

Squidwitch you need to take Hey Duggee off your approved list then as quite a few of the episodes have film references / in-jokes for the parents including, off the top of my head: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in the Shape Badge ('you have chosen wisely'); The Life Aquatic in the Submarine Badge; Apocalypse Now in The River Badge; the tadpoles growing up and going on a gap year / to work in the city.

NewYorkIvy · 24/05/2020 10:19

Hey Duggee is basically full of in jokes for adults (it's one of the reasons I loved it and still have the stick song as my alarm on my phone)

Macncheeseballs · 24/05/2020 10:25

So it may actually be helping him along in his development Shock

Thurmanmurman · 24/05/2020 10:29

My two used to love it when they were little. I actually found it pretty funny too! My kids are 7 and 9 now and I don't think a cartoon pig has negativity impacted them in any way!

Bourbonbiccy · 24/05/2020 10:36

It's absolutely not one I prefer, she can be a spoilt brat but on the upside it's only 5mins, so once every so often isn't a problem.

My son is nearly 3 and loves maddie do you know, it gives us some good things we can replicate at home, with objects floating and sinking etc.

WelcomeToTheNorth · 24/05/2020 10:49

Duggee and Ben and Holly are my favourites. Unfortunately Paw Patrol has made a resurgence in this house during lockdown. Pray for me.

Wecandothis99 · 24/05/2020 10:56

Wow, high maintenance. It's a kids tv show not soft porn!

LaurieMarlow · 24/05/2020 10:57

I’d like some actual examples of the obnoxious, spoilt behaviour too.

She strikes me as a very typically behaved pig preschooler.

midnightstar66 · 24/05/2020 10:57

Lol at the idea of pre watching episodes of a worldwide recognised and loved show for toddlers incase it's deemed inappropriate. Even more funny is the idea that as adults our lives could be rocked and our trust broken when we realise our parents might have been laughing at a slightly different joke than we realised at age 2. 2020 is a crazy time

LaurieMarlow · 24/05/2020 11:02

2020 is a crazy time

Mumsnet in 2020 is absolutely crackers.

Viviennemary · 24/05/2020 11:11

The thought that if you don't enjoy a programme made for toddlers then it isn't suitable. Now that is a little mad.

Taddda · 24/05/2020 11:15

I’d like some actual examples of the obnoxious, spoilt behaviour too.

She is a bit 's-winey'.....

(I just cringed at myself.....)

LaurieMarlow · 24/05/2020 11:19
Grin
Oblomov20 · 24/05/2020 11:20

Ahh. OP lives abroad? I'm assuming English isn't her native tongue. Given the brief responses, and very odd posting style. Explains a lot.

When my ds's were toddlers, nearly 2 decades ago, I didn't even worry about such things. It's sad you do. Presumably you have high anxiety? Probably best to address that and go and see your GP when yo next get the chance.

Embracelife · 24/05/2020 11:27

"Lol at the idea of pre watching episodes"

Exactly.
Even more LOL at asking mumsnet before you dare expose your toddler....
But seeing as op was afraid then clearly she needed to be brave and see for herself first....and learn to think for herself.....a good lesson for future choices. Think for yourself. Dont just go with views from the internet....

Ski4130 · 24/05/2020 11:32

Oblomov20 that response to the OP strikes me as a little off, she asked a question about Peppa Pig, not for a dissection of her English or diagnosis of anxiety. That was obnoxious of you.

Talking of obnoxious, Peppa Pig is without doubt slightly obnoxious and yes Daddy Pig is slightly hen pecked but my kids also liked the Little Princess and she’s a bit of handful too. At least the females are being strong willed I guess, rather than floating round in the background being seen but not heard. Pick your battles op Smile
