to think Dominic Cummings has to go?

RoosterPie · 22/05/2020 20:39

Dominic Cummings apparently travelled to his parents house while meant to be self isolating due to covid symptoms.

Given what happened with Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood, AIBU to think his position ought to be untenable?

Shapps drew a seriously short straw this weekend.

Alsohuman · 24/05/2020 09:26

Just emailed my MP, adding that I’m just as appalled by the most senior politicians attempting to defend the indefensible.

Hingeandbracket · 24/05/2020 09:27

He’s looking like a shifty fool.
Grant Shapps is a shifty fool
www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/mar/15/grant-shapps-admits-he-had-second-job-as-millioniare-web-marketer-while-mp
He used a false name to peddle questionable internet schemes then lied about it. These are the sorts of people Tories value.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 24/05/2020 09:30

I actually almost felt sorry for grant shapps there Grin

Boris owes him big time for taking the flak this weekend. I wonder whether Boris hates him or if it's just that hes the most competent out of all the cabinet to face the music

SharonasCorona · 24/05/2020 09:31

Really infuriating when Sophy Ridge asked Shapps about 13yo Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab dying alone without his family during the time Dominic was in Durham with his family and Shapps dismissed it saying he knows 9 people who died. They really don’t give a toss do they?

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 24/05/2020 09:32

Thought about emailing my MP but he will say whatever Boris.wants him to say. He is invisible between election campaigns and I dont have any faith in him at all

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 09:35

If Boris gave a stuff about any of this he would have done the briefing yesterday, and he should definitely do it today.
He needs to take the questions, and preferably after he's sacked him.
I don't particularly like Shapps, but at least they didn't wheel Gavla "thank you ever so much for your question" Williamson as the fall guy. He really would have been a lamb to the slaughter.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 24/05/2020 09:36

Exactly. Where is our Prime Minister?

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 09:37

Helme not yet! But she didn't reply when the law was being broken a few years ago and my sons life was put at risk. Apparently they only safeguard advisors kids! I sought help from a councillor from a neighbouring town from a different political party who sorted it all for me and apologised on behalf of everyone we'd been left as we were. I m not an idiot - I know the others didn't actually apologise and wouldn't have said his meant anything. But the fact someone apologised went a long way. As did the fact he secured funding to deliver what in law my son was entitled to.
So it'll be very interesting when she replies to now ask her about this Wink

HalleLouja · 24/05/2020 09:37

Shapps is one of my local MPs and is definitely a shifty tool.

janet1267 · 24/05/2020 09:38

Nomorereluctant Do email your MP. I expected mine to defend the government, but surprisingly he didn't. I was surprised and impressed by his response.

HalleLouja · 24/05/2020 09:39

I think he got the short straw aa he was there to discuss cycle repairs and getting trains running to full capacity.

SharonasCorona · 24/05/2020 09:40

@HalleLouja but he was made aware of Sophy’s questions yesterday. He should have been able to answer them.

janet1267 · 24/05/2020 09:41

Like others I've broken rules. I exercised sometimes more than once a day (a dog walk then a run later). I think that's a bit different to leaving the house and travelling to another area whilst actually ill with the virus we're trying not to spread. And I'm not one of the people making the rules. If he doesn't resign then the government is just a joke.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 09:41

Is the £50 cycle voucher meant to be compensation for us all for following rules we didn't actually have to follow? (And should have used our common sense to know that?!) he seems very keen to offer it to everyone who questions DCs actions.

"Never mind what he did. Have a £50 bike voucher and an extra lane on the A66"

HalleLouja · 24/05/2020 09:42

I was talking about yesterday. I haven’t seen today’s.

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 09:43

But the fact someone apologised went a long way. As did the fact he secured funding to deliver what in law my son was entitled to.
@itsgettingweird Glad you got it sorted, and apologies go a long way, I get this totally.

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 09:44

It's Cummings who needs to be on his bike Wink or perhaps his leaving present could be one of the new electric scooters we're all going to be able to buy.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 09:44

I 'broke the rules' if you count me going into my parents back garden.
They are shielding. I usually drop shopping on front door step, ring bell, walk over 5m away to pavement and talk from there when they collect it.
One day they were in garden so I walked down the alley at side of house and stop at the end (4-5m) away. I then walked to their black door and left their shopping there. Still 4m away. I then took their recycling box to my car to go and empty for them at local bank.
So 'technically' I broke the rules being in their garden. But even then I was providing care so by the rules I could be there.

It's not about breaking the rules. It's about saying he doesn't care, saying everyone else is lying and going down the fake news lane.

YouTheCat · 24/05/2020 09:46

The government have, apparently issued a statement saying that basically it didn't happen, they won't answer any questions and the newspapers involved are just campaigning against them.

It's like they are sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting 'fake news' to make it go away.

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/05/2020 09:47

Off topic slightly but who gets a £50 bike voucher and where can I get it from?

SharonasCorona · 24/05/2020 09:53

Given there will only 500k vouchers, I imagine they will only go those registered at bike shops.

DrManhattan · 24/05/2020 09:53

He does but he won't.

Piglet89 · 24/05/2020 09:57

@Intothesun

Except that under section 6, restrictions on movement, he didn't break the rules.

I have helpfully attached a screenshot of section 6. Under which of the “reasonable excuses” in section 6(2) does Dominic Cummings’ trip(s) fall?

to think Dominic Cummings has to go?
Alsohuman · 24/05/2020 09:58

I imagine they will only go those registered at bike shops

Can you even register at a bike shop? They’re to get old bikes made roadworthy so that seems unlikely.
