to think Dominic Cummings has to go?

RoosterPie · 22/05/2020 20:39

Dominic Cummings apparently travelled to his parents house while meant to be self isolating due to covid symptoms.

Given what happened with Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood, AIBU to think his position ought to be untenable?

I’m wondering what else the press have up their sleeve.

Snog · 24/05/2020 07:40

Petition to parliament for Cummings to be sacked for his irresponsible actions

merrymouse · 24/05/2020 07:43

The closing ranks without even any expression of doubt is revealing.

Yes - very revealing.

The Conservatives have a massive majority, so politically they can withstand a lot. Even if he didn't leave government, if Cummings had offered an apology and admitted that, under stress, he had not done what the government had asked everyone else to do, there would still be a sense that the rules are important. It would be unpopular, but what can anyone do?

However, instead, the government have decided to protect Cummings by trashing the rules.

MarieQueenofScots · 24/05/2020 08:24

A lot of people have broken lock down rules, I bet you most of the people on this thread have but won't admit it on here

(A) no I haven’t
(B) I’m not part of the contingent making the rules. They absolutely have to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us.

I appreciate Conservatives don’t go in much for morals, but it’s clear what the moral position would be for Cummings.

LizzieSiddal · 24/05/2020 08:32

*Tbh I am more surprised that DC got caught doing this, I thought he was smarter than this.

You’ve missed the fact that DC doesn’t give a shit what we think. He’s knows he’s untouchable and that’s what makes him so dangerous.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 08:38

The is the really scary part of all this Lizzie.

Pedallleur · 24/05/2020 08:42

Has Mogg not weighed in with a it's common sense to flee the burning building type of comment?

Hotcuppatea · 24/05/2020 08:44

What makes me angry and incredibly sad is the thought of all those people who couldn't see their family members in hospital, knowing their loved ones were dying alone, because they were told it was against the rules. And they complied because they were told it was the only responsible decision to make.

In the meantime, someone who was involved in drawing up and distributing these rules decided that they were only for the sheeple, and not for the likes of clever people like him that could calculate their own risks.

Utter utter bastard. He has to go.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 08:49

Ped 🤣👏👏👏😂

Youngatheart00 · 24/05/2020 08:50

He absolutely HAS to go. The government have been absolutely shameful, lying and covering up. And I say this as someone who voted for them.

Youngatheart00 · 24/05/2020 08:52

Have signed the petition

LouHotel · 24/05/2020 08:52

Oh my I've read both parts of the story now - hates off to Pippa crerar who laid a trap for the government and they walked right in.

Helmetbymidnight · 24/05/2020 08:53

However, instead, the government have decided to protect Cummings by trashing the rules.

thats whats so astonishing. i guess it tells us how much they feel they need him.

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 08:54

Steve Baker, Tory MP has just ripped into him on BBC news - he's on Sky in the next few minutes.
Says Boris must sack him if Cummings doesn't do the honourable thing and resign.
Says he's had lots of support for speaking out from fellow MPs.

Helmetbymidnight · 24/05/2020 08:56

So I've asked if her defence of him was about her reputation at Westminster or was actually because she thinks we, as her constituents, shouldn't have to follow the rules either?

brilliant- has she replied?

chomalungma · 24/05/2020 08:56

Settling in with popcorn Marr and 2 threads on here.

Hingeandbracket · 24/05/2020 08:57

These aren't Conservatives
Yes they fucking are, every last one of them - all the cunts backing up Cummings now were elected as Tories - no running away from that.

chomalungma · 24/05/2020 08:58

I am sure many MPs are getting stories of people who have been ill and who have children and who haven't fled 250 miles. And have had really horrendous times

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2020 08:58

I don’t get the blanket statements defending him. How was it applying to the rules.

They really do need him.

chomalungma · 24/05/2020 08:58

These aren't Conservatives

Gove, Hancock, Sunak....

IpanemaGallina · 24/05/2020 09:05

Just signed petition.

My dh and I had cv in late March, I’m still poorly with a post-viral chest. I did panic about how to feed our three dc, but our GP put us in touch with a local effort to help people who had to self isolate. Not once did we consider driving to my parents for help. We just muddled through like every other family except DC’s of course.

Also despise the message that he loved his family more by making that trip arghhh!

HandInGove · 24/05/2020 09:14

I can’t believe he’s still clinging on. How low is the bar, this is shocking What does he have to do actually worse than this to be sacked. We had a national effort from the highest level of government demanding huge personal sacrifice.. yet he wouldn’t do it, and reportedly popped up and down a few times. WTF?!

Tellmetruth4 · 24/05/2020 09:15

Sophy Ridge on Sky News is absolutely smashing it in her interview with Grant Shapps right now. He’s looking like a shifty fool.

lljkk · 24/05/2020 09:15

I have broken the rules (exercise violations). I'm not demanding DC resign.

But may I demand that the govt now spells out that it's absolutely fine for anyone with symptoms & who is worried they won't cope well at their primary residence, to travel far away elsewhere. This has been fine since March. But only DC knew! So now govt needs to say it's fine for everyone.

This might lead to less bodily excrement on the beaches in hot tourist spots, so that's a bonus too.

RoosterPie · 24/05/2020 09:16

I agree. Sophy Ridge doing really well
especially about him not finding the answers to her questions released in advance.
