I need to speak to dh when the boys are in bed. I feel poorly so it feels like such a mammoth effort to go to a&e and I know it'll be really draining. I really can't go if I don't have to, I'd rather wallow in my pit.

Sad Hope you feel better. How and when will you get tested?

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 19:56

good lord OP.. how are you Flowers

pennee · 23/05/2020 19:59

Just think though if you get it checked out properly, get antivirals and by day three the blisters will be almost gone and you will be feeling a whole lot better. It will take longer to get better if you don’t get them in your system within 72 hours

Namechange2020onceagain · 23/05/2020 20:15

I really think you should at least call them back and ask why they are not treating you for Shingles. On the guidelines it says

Admit to hospital (or seek immediate specialist advice) if:
Serious complications (such as meningitis, encephalitis, or myelitis) are suspected.
The person has shingles in the ophthalmic distribution of the trigeminal nerve, especially those with:
Hutchinson's sign — a rash on the tip, side, or root of the nose, representing the dermatome of the nasociliary nerve, which is a prognostic factor for subsequent eye inflammation and permanent corneal denervation.
Visual symptoms, An unexplained red eye

If it was just on your nose or lip, I wouldn't worry too much, but the eye is the real concern. Did you say to them you think it could be shingles?

Read this, it sounds exactly what you have.

MariahLairy · 23/05/2020 20:47

OP - I would agree that that could be shingles in your eye and that it would be a good idea to go to A&E to get started on some antivirals to prevent any damage happening to your eye from shingles. Agreed that that does look like Hutchinson's sign (shingles on your nose, which indicates that it's going to spread to your eye). I would say both those things to the staff at A&E, wouldn't mention anything to do with coronavirus personally.

User8008135 · 23/05/2020 20:53

Shingles pain gets worse even with antivirals, why did they say they wouldn't treat you? Call them back again as you only have a few days for shingles to come out and antivirals to be well effective.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 23/05/2020 20:53

Agreed, please get seen op, I’ve been worrying reading this thread.

User8008135 · 23/05/2020 20:55

It looks like the shingles rash i had, please push this as the pain is really really bad and with your face and eyes it's meant to be so much worse.

Porridgeoat · 23/05/2020 21:39

A&e now

Knocksomesense · 23/05/2020 21:52

I've seen a different gp via video call. He's reassured me for now and I am feeling marginally brighter this evening. I guess not much I can do if I've been turned away by two doctors. I'll see how I am by morning

I'm sorry they are failing you. Angry

If your eye is feeling pressured or bulgy, please go straight to A & E it is serious, you could lose your sight in that eye.

I don't want to scare you, but it is serious.

I'm glad you are feeling slightly better. Hopefully you just have a mild case and get better quickly. Do you have any spots or localised burning/hot feeling pain on your torso, it would probably be on the same side of the affect eye?

What did the second doctor say about shingles?

Namechange2020onceagain · 24/05/2020 12:53

@Knocksomesense How are you feeling today?

macaroniandpizza · 24/05/2020 13:03

Id be going to a & e and not moving til youve been seen. Thats terrible youve been failed twice now

Knocksomesense · 24/05/2020 13:09

The second doctor was adamant it was just cold sores and my eye was just irritated. He gave me lots of advice and was really reassuring. He talked about symptoms to look out for and at what point I would need to see the eye doctor.

I now don't know whether to self isolate for 14 days because that stupid doctor said I had covid (when I really truly don't).

I'm actually feeling brighter today. My headache is beginning to shift, although I still feel weak and tired. The sores are beginning to dry and aren't spreading. My eye is still irritated but slightly less inflamed.

I'm happy that I'm on the up. I was having nightmares of going to hospital and being put on the covid side.

I'm glad you are feeling better, I was worried about you. Hopefully they are just cold sores. Smile

sexbearhouse · 24/05/2020 13:35

I was just thinking today that the worst thing about not having my SNS nails during lockdown is that I can't pick my spots properly.

As you were.....

Knocksomesense · 24/05/2020 13:46

@Namechange2020onceagain thanks. I was worried yesterday as it felt like everything was escalating but not worried today

That's good.
Do some serious immune boosting work- try and work out what's missing at the moment (sleep, vitamins etc) and make a special effort.

Knocksomesense · 24/05/2020 14:19

@picklemewalnuts probably something to do with being on lockdown with a 2 year old and 3 year old, trying to wfh and worrying about finances Grin

picklemewalnuts · 24/05/2020 14:24

Ah, yes. That would probably do it!

This is a good page

www.herpes.org.nz/herpes-patient-info/facial-herpes

There's a bit on eyes, and aches and pains.

When I was a kid, loads of people got them and no one ever thought anything of it. I think these recurrences are more painful that the first go.

Knocksomesense · 24/05/2020 18:26

I really really want some crisps. Properly crave them when I'm poorly
