To not like my nose and want a nose job

I have been ok with my nose most of my life and not really paid much attention to my appearance / face etc much. However, recently I've decided to take care of myself, wear nicer clothes, improve skin etc trying to exercise. Just trying to look and feel better as I'm getting older. In my "mot" of what needs improving it dawned on me that I have quite a crap nose. Now all I see in the mirror is my nose! I'm beginning to really hate it and have even started researching plastic surgeons etc. It's sort of a square nose with no definition. Like a blob of a nose on my face!

DH thinks I've gone crazy and it's a faze. And says my nose is just fine etc. But I don't believe him! Am I crazy?! Has anyone else done this?

Phase not faze!

Assuming you can afford it, wait 6 months and see how you feel.

DrManhattan · 22/05/2020 09:02

I would go for it. But make sure you do your homework first

formerbabe · 22/05/2020 09:08

If you'd always felt like that, I'd say why not...but it's slightly odd that you've never noticed it or been bothered by it.

Bonitalazenia · 22/05/2020 09:13

I had always hated my nose and I swore to myself if I ever had the money I would get it done. Over the years however I grew into it and now I could easily afford it but Im happy with how I look. If only I'd had a 'blob' on my face...mine is more 'beaky'. My brother once said "but what would you hang your glasses on?"!

MoseyNosey · 22/05/2020 09:18

Haha! I wear glasses 😂

I know it's bloody stupid of me. Dsis thinks I'm absolutely nuts and doesn't really think I would actually go through with the surgery! I swing from it's fine to ugh

I had 3 moles removed from my face earlier this year. They had never really bothered me before but now I'm getting old and wrinkly I felt they made my face look 'busy' and one of them in particular seemed to have grown quite a bit and it was all I could see in the mirror and in photos. Got it done, thrilled with the results and don't regret it for a second. If something bothers you, by all means get it fixed if you can afford it and can find a great person to do the work. Just watch out for it leading down a path to wanting more procedures. That's a dangerous road and one to avoid!

mayandjuniper · 22/05/2020 09:21

Nose jobs are incredibly painful and take a lot of time to heal, plus it's bloody uncomfortable not being able to breathe properly for weeks. You also won't end up with a 'perfect' nose- they say look for improvement not perfection with a rhinoplasty. Seriously, give yourself a year and see if it's worth it, because it's a huge deal. Can you not use makeup to contour it?

MoseyNosey · 22/05/2020 09:23

It looks a bit like this. This is a photo off Google off a plastic surgery website not some random photo. This is her before shot.

It is a very serious operation one I firmly believe in for those who suffer with an awful nose. Though if it is only bothering you lately I'm not sure.
I know 2 people who had it both had a really big bent nose, they look great but had breathing difficulties. One had to have hers redone 3 times it took 2 years from her life. Use a highlighter on your nose, read up on unsuccessful procedures along with positive outcomes.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/05/2020 09:31

@emsyj37 There is a world of difference between mole removal and Rhinoplasty surgery.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 09:32

What’s wrong with the photo nose? Looks like a normal one to me!

I think since you are just thinking about this now, you have just become a bit obsessed by the idea - maybe lockdown cabin fever? Wait for a while and try not to spend time looking at your nose! I’m sure your nose is fine - unexceptional and just a nose.

Lottie2shoes · 22/05/2020 09:35

If i had a nose like that, i definitely would not put myself through the stress of rhinoplasty.
What is great about perfection anyway, personally i find it boring. I don't particularly like my nose either, but i find everyone's little quirks and traits endearing and think it makes us who we are.
If you feel you have to have it done then it is up to you but i wouldn't myself.

NoScribbles · 22/05/2020 09:37

Please don't. I would love a nose like that. I had botched rhinoplasty and can't afford/ face going back for revision. Also I'm experiencing breathing problems and have wasted hours of my life obsessing over it, regretting it. Of course you may get great results and many do. But if you have a nice nose like that and it has not bothered you before, leave well enough alone.

CovidicusRex · 22/05/2020 09:39

I dislike my nose, it also has no definition. Everyone else seems to think it’s a really good nose. I don’t fucking know. Noses just aren’t pretty ever anyway.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/05/2020 09:39

The photo looks like my nose - nothing special! If it was really crooked then maybe get it straightened. But if it’s a recent thing - so you didn’t have a childhood of taunts of ‘elephant’ or ‘concord’ then I don’t think it’s really an issue.

Plus it would hurt like hell, and cost you £££.

timetest · 22/05/2020 09:39

The nose in the photo looks in proportion to her face.

Leflic · 22/05/2020 09:51

I’m a fix it if it makes you unhappy person. I’ve had cosmetic surgery

However I do think out of all them rhinoplasty is the most rubbish. I actually don’t think there is a perfect nose and even an really ugly nose is just part of your individual face. I don’t think it makes you prettier overall having a certain nose (unlike big eyes or a full lips for example).

Personally I’d save the money on surgery and put it towards really good facials, Botox and peels. They really do make you look younger fresher and better.

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 09:53

I honestly can’t see a thing wrong with the nose in that photo.

Bleepbloopblarp · 22/05/2020 09:54

I think people who have nose jobs often look very strange afterwards - it can make their face look “off”. Jennifer grey from dirty dancing and Lisa from the pop group Steps are two that spring to mind. Both looked better before imo.

MitziK · 22/05/2020 09:56

Seeing as that before shot seems to be implying that there was something wrong with her nose when there isn't, what does the 'After' shot look like?

mayandjuniper · 22/05/2020 10:00

That 'before' shot looks like my nose after an expensive and painful nose job. It's absolutely fine! You don't want a little pointy arrow nose that looks obviously fake, they're horrid.

emsyj37 · 22/05/2020 10:02

There is a website called RealSelf where you can read real people's reviews of particular procedures and see before and after photos to see what can realistically be achieved. Bear in mind there are non-surgical options now where fillers can be used to reshape the nose. Might be worth looking at whether this type of tweak would be enough for you? If you don't need to reduce the size of your nose and just want a refinement of the shape then fillers might be something that could work for you? Worth investigating.

oooompa · 22/05/2020 10:07

@emsyj37 do you mind if I ask where you went to get your moles removed and how much it cost approcimately? I have 2 large flesh coloured moles on my neck that I would love to get removed but I don't know who would do it and how much I'd be looking at paying.
