I think I'd rather stay at home

@Frouby who cleans the public toilets or, as with food deliveries and post, you have "people " to do that for you. If it's not yet safe for the workforce, why should you put them at risk?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 11:28

@GBarmy exactly. Sadly, judging by the ignorance on here, we need more of the latter.

daisymay133 · 21/05/2020 11:28

People can go the beach

So what if it’s busy as long as it’s 2 m between

Boris actually gave the example that people can go out sunbathing

Hopefully he’ll drop the 2 m by June 1st which is already looking likely

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 11:29

Be grateful for your healthy functioning bowels

I am. If you have IBS then don't go somewhere with no loo?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 11:31

"Hopefully he’ll drop the 2 m by June 1st which is already looking likely"
Utter shite.

Frouby · 21/05/2020 11:32

It is safe for the workforce. People have been told to go back to work except for some specific sectors. To be fair, they were never told to stop. We didn't have a full lockdown. Not like Italy or France. Whether you agree with that or not, that's what happened.

What actually happened were businesses closed down that could have kept trading. Maybe a week to make changes to ensure they were 'covid compliant' as the government have been calling it.

Public toilets are presumably maintained by council workers. So they need to be back at work doing what they are being paid to do. Hospital cleaners have worked throughout, presume school cleaners have as well.

The sooner everyone gets back to their day jobs where possible and safe to do so (which lots are with a bit of thought) the less people are going to be bored over summer and flocking to these places.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 11:34

Cafes are not supposed to be open

Loads of cafes are doing take away. It’s businesses like this that show a bit of initiative that will survive.

Truthpact · 21/05/2020 11:34

How is anyone surprised at this?

Two weeks into lockdown there were posts going around fb reminding people to wash their hands after taking their bin out. They shouldn't need told to do that! People are in general disgusting and unhygienic.

daisymay133 · 21/05/2020 11:37

The 2m rule has been in news the past few days constantly which is usually first sign

It’s not even who guidelines

GBarmy · 21/05/2020 11:42

@Frouby It sounds very much like you think things should be back to normal. Sorry to point out the obvious, but hundreds of people are still dying every single day. It is NOT safe for many businesses to reopen. Why the hell should people put themselves at risk to open toilets and seaside businesses, just because someone fancies a paddle and an ice cream. Theres plenty of time for that once lockdown has been lifted and it is safe to do so, and that time is not now, not yet!!

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 11:44

Amazing how people don't think teachers and schools should have spent the last few weeks planning for this and it's absolutely fine to say they can't return to work! But loo cleaners and cafe owners are just lazy bastards!

LST · 21/05/2020 11:45

If we went to the beach we would probably go in our motorhome which has a toilet on board.. I wouldn't go (not planning too) otherwise

daisymay133 · 21/05/2020 11:47

To be fair many of the people dying now were infected several weeks ago

Admissions show that actually deaths will be massively lower in next couple weeks

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 21/05/2020 11:50

Our local lips are open

Frouby · 21/05/2020 11:53

The time is now GBarmy. Not my decision but the governments decision. People who can not work from home should return to work. Premises and businesses must make adaptions to make them safe and maintain social distancing.

That includes public toilets and seaside businesses as much as it does urban facilities.

But if all these business owners can afford to turn away custom then that is their choice. But if they are chosing to do that then they shouldn't be supported by the rest of us that have gone back to work and opened up businesses again.

We are in construction and had 3 weeks off until we had a plan and new rules in place on sites. Farming never stopped. Manufacturing has kept going. Other food places have kept open. It's entirely possible for most businesses to adapt.

Those that don't will be bankrupt within a month of the government schemes being withdrawn. The incoming recession will make the covid crisis seem like a walk in the park, with or without toilets and a cafe.

People need to start taking financial responsibility for themselves not hiding away from people looking to spend money. If they chose to do so, then as I said upthread they need to forfeit any of the business saving support the government has given because it os to support business through the short term impact of the lockdown. Not support it while ever we have the virus here because it will still be here this time next year.

And I say that as someone who lost their fil at Easter to covid19 and have my mum and my aunt shielding.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 21/05/2020 11:54

People are still travelling knowing facilities aren’t open so at least if there were toilets open it may lessen nappies etc on the beach? Are their still bins being emptied along there ?

People need to stop being such dirty, disgusting pigs - don't excuse their behaviour!
Mine aren't in nappies anymore, but there's no way on earth I'd have just dumped it on the beach, talk about fkn disgusting.
I'd have nappy bagged it up and took it home in the changing bag until I could dispose of it properly.

MissEliza · 21/05/2020 11:55

Sensible post @Frouby.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 21/05/2020 11:56

"Hopefully he’ll drop the 2 m by June 1st which is already looking likely"

Hmm Yeah, can't see that one happening, sounds more like wishful thinking on your part.
PafLeChien · 21/05/2020 11:57

sadly true.

Clymene · 21/05/2020 11:57

@Frouby - cafes and restaurants and most seaside businesses aren't allowed to open Confused

aliceinsunderland44 · 21/05/2020 11:57

@ITonyah I haven't. For that exact reason. My point is that telling people to watch what they eat as though that will magically stop bowel malfunction is a bit daft. Even the best of us can get caught short.

I'm in two minds about reopening seaside/public loos. On one hand I think they will be another breeding hub and also a sign to people that it's fine to be there. Which in my opinion it isn't, yet. But people will still go regardless and by forcing people to shit and piss on a beach you are simply opening up the risk of many more infections.

Due to my issues I am quite familiar with using public loos but I really wouldn't fancy it at the moment.

Lemonsherbets78 · 21/05/2020 11:59

I live by a (very well known tourist hot-spot) beach. They are going behind the beach huts, its quite a problem. The smell is something else apparently, we haven't dared venture onto the beach because its heaving with people

WindFlower92 · 21/05/2020 12:02

Shock @iamtheoneandonlyyy

OnlyThenWhen · 21/05/2020 12:03

People are actually disgusting.
Pissing in public is one thing, at the very least eventually it dries, gets rained on and disappears.
Shitting in public is fucking revolting.

MaggieFS · 21/05/2020 12:03

Some people just don't think or plan ahead. It's one of those things. The PM says travel as far as you like and sunbathe, and the weather is amazing, so of course people are going to head for the seaside. And yes, it's vile the behaviour which often then follows. No excuses. But telling people to just stay at home is daft given what the PM has said.

Open the toilets, and if people want to risk themselves using them, it's up to them. 90% of the time, a picnic wee is preferable to a public loo anyway, but anything al fresco close to someone's property or in a built up area is unacceptable.
