I think I'd rather stay at home

Fluffybutter or people could take their rubbish home with them and not be fucking dirty bastards who leave it for others to clean up.

It's not difficult, is it?

SlothMama · 21/05/2020 10:52

The toilets are shut to discourage people from travelling far distances to need them. It's not discriminatory in the slightest, I wouldn't want to use a public toilet right now anyway. They aren't the most hygienic at the best of times let alone right now.

Littlemissdaredevil · 21/05/2020 10:54

At my local beach the public loos are open. However, all the pubs, etc which also have loos in them are shut.

Lots of public loos have been shut where I live as the council can’t afford to clean and maintain them therefore most people use loos in shops, restaurants and pubs. The lack of public loos is an issue without corona virus!

Frouby · 21/05/2020 10:55

One of the things that has flabbergasted me the most about this lockdown is the reaction of seaside communities and those of the national parks.

People are allowed out now. People can go to the seaside and natural parks and beauty spots.

Social distancing is still important obviously. But it's far easier to maintain outdoors.

Yet carparks, toilets, cafes and other amenities remain closed. People are saying 'don't come we are closed'. Yet now would be an ideal time to take financial opportunity of millions of people and families at home, unable to do the things they normally do and desperate for nice days out where they will spend money, return to regularly during the summer and possibly be loyal customers in the future.

Local cafes have reopened on a takeaway basis. Some pubs have continued to trade with takeaways. We had an icecream man round.

So why the seaside resorts are saying No don't come is absolutely beyond me. Maybe the furlough scheme is too generous. Without it I imagine everyone would be desperate to get back to work.

We usually go abroad like many families. Obviously won't be this year and said we may book a cottage or caravan if we could over summer. But am not so sure I would want to go now given the attitudes I have seen regarding visitors. The virus will still be here in 3 months, that won't change so don't want to go somewhere and not be welcomed.

My money will save for next year but am not so sure I will spend it on a UK seaside holiday.

And if I was in government I would be instructing every council in every area to ensure the facilities were open and if business owners refuse, I would be withdrawing every bit of financial aid they have had. Which is being provided to make sure that businesses have the opportunity to recover but non seem to be taking that opportunity.

Bluewavescrashing · 21/05/2020 10:55

Some people are disgusting. Pooing on the beach! Bloody hell.

Baaaahhhhh · 21/05/2020 10:57

A local friend posted on FB that Witterings was closed yesterday due to too much traffic/congestion. Crazy.

WitsEnding · 21/05/2020 10:58

There are a lot of people in the U.K., and a lot of people live in the counties considered to be holiday areas; many inhabitants never leave their area. With reduced opportunities for 'herd' leisure activities like football and festivals, limited sports, theatre, restaurants etc., I think there's going to be a massive problem keeping everyone entertained.

Personally I love the outdoors but it's nicer sparsely populated. Winter will help, but I can't think of a solution.

I can't understand people with no medical issues who have to poo on a
day out. But dogs pee on my gate, I don't feel guilty about my two sneaky pees in the bushes (parkland generally used as a dog walking area) during lockdown. Wouldn't do it on a beach ever or anywhere there were facilities within an hours' walk.

If I had access to a car I'd go home or use a portable.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 11:00

The need for people to have everything as they want it and to be welcomed during a pandemic or they will flounce off elsewhere is amazing to me. I never guessed people were so spoilt and entitled.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 11:00

Everything you touch: gates, doors, walls, horses in the field, whatever, can potentially retain the virus even for a short time.
Have some fucking sense.

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/05/2020 11:01

So why the seaside resorts are saying No don't come is absolutely beyond me.

Did you see the photo I posted of Scarborough beach? And the accounts others have posted of people crapping on beaches and in other public places?

It sort of makes those of us who live by the sea a tad unwelcoming.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 11:04

Just because I normally serve you on a lovely day, welcome your custom, am glad you chose my business, doesn't mean I'm happy to clean up your literal crap and collude in your creation of a second wave.

isabellerossignol · 21/05/2020 11:04

I've never really thought about this before because none of the beaches I go to have toilets anywhere near them anyway. I thought beaches were a toilet free zone in general.

OnlyThenWhen · 21/05/2020 11:04

So why the seaside resorts are saying No don't come is absolutely beyond me

Because they don't want or need hoards of people arriving en mass, obviously. Most places are still closed by government order. The locals still need to shop, they don't need day-trippers making it an even longer process. They still want to exercise without tripping over tourists- it's hard enough to social distance anyway.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 11:07

And if I was in government I would be instructing every council in every area to ensure the facilities were open and if business owners refuse, I would be withdrawing every bit of financial aid they have had. This x 1000. Shame you’re not PM.

Toothsil · 21/05/2020 11:09

@mrsspooky I can't believe the cheek of some people!

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 11:10

Would you do the same draconian bollocks for people refusing to social distance or wear masks?

Graciebobcat · 21/05/2020 11:13

I agree with you Frouby. Either the rules of lockdown should have remained and toilets were not open, or people are allowed to go to the beach and the toilets are open.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 21/05/2020 11:16

Time to open the toilets

GBarmy · 21/05/2020 11:17

I've just seen this on Facebook. Sums it up perfectly for those who can't seem to grasp why the seaside is not open for business yet

to wonder where all the beach revellers are toileting?
Frouby · 21/05/2020 11:17

@bellinisurge so open the public toilets, then people won't crap on the beach.

And the second wave won't be caused by people socially distancing out on a beach. If it was properly managed with lifeguard and patrols to make sure people are sat far enough apart. And when the beach is full or carparks are full then turn people away.

Don't just say we are closed, don't come because people will still come. The beaches aren't owned by locals. We have a lake 5 minutes walk from our house. It's been incredibly busy the last few months. It's part of being able to live close to a nice place to be.

Our cafe has opened back up as has the car park. To make it more welcoming to visitors and for the lake trust to earn money from parking charges and the cafe.

And if you dont want my money now when everyone is desperate to do something nice with the kids, when the weather is good and everyone has time to enjoy the UKs natural beauty then am not sure I would want to give it you when I can go abroad for the same price and have people and businesses genuinely glad to serve me.

happypoobum · 21/05/2020 11:21

My local beach isn't too busy but most people have walked there (car park is closed) so it's a local beach for local people Grin

So, yeah. No problem with loos. Just pop home.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 11:21

Cafes are not supposed to be open.

aliceinsunderland44 · 21/05/2020 11:24

@ITonyah that's a really ignorant view. I can assure you that IBS sufferers probably watch their diet more closely than anyone but it doesn't usually make a blind bit of notice to their irregular bowel habits.

Maybe that's why they are 'bizarrely obsessed' with toilets.

I wouldn't venture very far at the moment because of this. Even in normal times I still feel governed about where I can go by how close a toilet is.

Be grateful for your healthy functioning bowels.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/05/2020 11:24

I peed in the bushes on a very posh street in Edinburgh yesterday. how unpleasant for the people who live there whether they are posh or not.

Frouby · 21/05/2020 11:25

@ITonyah they can offer take away services if they maintain social distancing. Same as many other retail and food services still open. Supporting the economy. Paying into the system. So we can then hopefully support the most vulnerable in society over the next couple of years.
