@Frouby I think we will have to agree to disagree. Cafes, restaurants, pubs etc aren't allowed to open yet. The vast majority of tourist facilities are not allowed to open. Nowhere on the seafront is open because it is not allowed to! The toilets are not open because they cannot be done so safely. We are being led by our local council, who for once, are taking a very sensible approach. We all want tourists back, but only when it is safe to do so

And yet other councils all over the country have managed it.

Amazing how people don't think teachers and schools should have spent the last few weeks planning for this and it's absolutely fine to say they can't return to work!
Teachers have been at work all along. They have been in school with key workers' children, teaching from home, phoning children, planning work, lessons on zoom etc. Just so you know.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 12:17

Well, bully for them. Drive there then.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 12:18

CaptainMyCaptain schools are not open to all yet as far as I'm aware?

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 12:18

Well, bully for them. Drive there then

No need. If one can manage it, they all can.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 12:18

alsohuman now I know you just want a row 😂😂

People are in general disgusting and unhygienic. It is shocking that a government has to even tell people how to was their hands properly. Plus some people still didn't listen. In addition to that, every winter the government reminds us 'to catch it, bin it, kill it'. Do people pay attention? Nope. I had someone cough right down the back of my neck in Costa last year. In the early days of lockdown, I was sitting in my garden when I heard someone coughing away on the other side of the fence. I went out to check and yes, they were coughing into the open air, not bothering to cover their mouth. Even a global pandemic can't convince some people to practice basic hygiene.

have they now..

Someone is just peeved that their local beach day trip was not catered for Grin

Frouby · 21/05/2020 12:21

Cafes are allowed to open. As are pubs. And restaurants. As long as they maintain social distancing and it's takeaway only.

We spend a fair bit at beachfront shops when on holiday to get cold drinks and snacks. A seaside cafe with a bit of thought and planning should be raking it in right now.

When do you think it will be safe? R of 0.1? 0.5? When the virus is gone? A vaccine? Because if you are waiting for that to happen then you might as well stick a note on the door saying closed until 2022.

Public toilets can reopen. It's like the tips that closed because it wasn't safe. Now they are open again with adaptions. Make public toilets safe. Queue outside 2m apart. One in, one out. Cubicles and sinks closed to ensure spaces between. Lines on the floor. Tbh public toilets need to be open so we can all keep washing our hands. Supermarket loos are still open. They manage.

It's this attitude towards going back to work and making as many things as possible open that will cause the recession we are heading towards. The virus is here to stay. There won't be a magic cure or vaccine this year. Maybe not next either. So as a country we need to adapt and live witb it. Things will be different but business owners absolutely need to take the initiatives to make the changes and keep trading. Especially at this moment in time when the R is low. Because it's safer now than the month before we locked down.

Changes need to be made to maintain social distancing. Things won't be the same but saying Sorry Still Closed Cos Covid isn't the way forward.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 12:25

Someone is just peeved that their local beach day trip was not catered for

Not in the least. My visit to a privately owned stately home was catered for. It managed to open its loos.

Absolutely spot on @Frouby.

PafLeChien · 21/05/2020 12:29

yes, the priority is absolutely to open the loo for people to travel cross-country to spend a day on a crowded beach.

What are councils doing not targeting the REAL problems I ask you! Grin

Changeofname79 · 21/05/2020 12:30

Our local beach toilets are open. I was shocked to hear others werent but I live less than 30mins walking so I would have just walked home or if desperate got DH to pick me up. I don't understand this flocking to the beaches. We havent been down for the day, had a few walks along the beach or prom but this isnt the time for a day trip to the beach IMO but then again I am not an inconsiderate prick.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 12:32

Well it is if you don’t want an outbreak of typhoid. If it’s not a priority, why provide them in the first place?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 12:33

The sense of entitlement on here is shocking.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/05/2020 12:35

A local friend posted on FB that Witterings was closed yesterday due to too much traffic/congestion. Crazy.

Was it?

Blimey

GBarmy · 21/05/2020 12:36

Of course nobody wants an outbreak of typhoid. We are too busy trying to cope with the outbreak of stupid tourists who think lockdown rules dont apply to them!!

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 12:37

Our council is still trying to sort flood damage out, I should think trying to employ and kit out workers to clean shitty loos and try and maintain social distancing among groups of prickly entitled day trippers is fairly low down on their list atm.

Truthpact · 21/05/2020 12:38

Even a global pandemic can't convince some people to practice basic hygiene.

Nope and its everyone else's fault if they catch something. Despite the fact they need to be reminded to wash their hands after using a toilet.

I never use public toilets. The general public are gross as hell. Hardly anyone washes their hands in public toilets.

LagunaBubbles · 21/05/2020 12:39

peed in the bushes on a very posh street in Edinburgh yesterday. I'm damned if I'm going to be tied to a tiny radius by the size of my bladder

Disgusting! Do please vote for independence next time you get the chance

What has voting for Scottish Independence got to do with someone peeing in a bush?

cologne4711 · 21/05/2020 12:40

Even local people have bladders too. Or periods. You don't need to have driven for an hour to need the loo, you may have only walked half an hour.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 12:41

We are too busy trying to cope with the outbreak of stupid tourists who think lockdown rules dont apply to them!

People who are doing what the government has told them they can.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 12:41

Seaside towns do not assume every visitor will only have access to council public loos to puss and shit. They assume cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and hotel Loos will also be used. Therefore, Unless the town is fully open, which will require a lot of small businesses to do a lot of nifty work and probably invest a bit of money in getting properly set up, THEY WON'T BE READY FOR YOU.
Getting pissed off because other people can't immediately cater to your individual wants at the click of your fingers is what a selfish twat would do.

madcatladyforever · 21/05/2020 12:41

People are being stupid, where I used to live in a beauty spot is busier than it's been in 30 years with cars parked for 3 miles up the road bumper to bumper and the beach and beauty spots are rammed with people all shitting everywhere. My old neighbours been emailing me about it.
There has to be something wrong with you if you are prepared to take this kind of risk already.
I'll bet these are all the same people clapping for the NHS the loudest and all having rainbows up in their windows.
Don't clap for me you hypocrites.

cologne4711 · 21/05/2020 12:41

Hardly anyone washes their hands in public toilets

Most people actually do, but if only cold water is provided, no soap and those pointless hand dryers that don't actually dry your hands, you may as well not bother.
