I think I'd rather stay at home

There was a story about someone whose dog rolled in human excrement at the beach and while it’s disgusting I did laugh at first because usually it’s people complaining about dog mess!

ratspeaker · 21/05/2020 10:11

Going by what I've seen it's the local lanes, people's gardens, any tree or bush or gaining entry to apartment blocks to urinate or worse in stairwells.
Scotland is supposed to be in lockdown but the beach here was teaming with people yesterday

GBarmy · 21/05/2020 10:11

*bellinisurge

Ffs. They are "turning you away" because they aren't set up for mobs of people.
Just grow the fuck up*

Exactly, I'm really struggling to see why people cant understand that

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 21/05/2020 10:12

I carry some of those wipes in my bag now so would use those if toilets were open but keep fairly local at the moment. We have got a booked ticket for a local National Trust carpark on Sunday so will see if toilets are open, they may be.

DH spends a lot of time outdoors and has got some TravelJohn Disposable Solid Waste Bags from Amazon for if he is took short. DH has much less qualms than me though about outdoor toileting.

ratspeaker · 21/05/2020 10:16

Mind you there are people who would pee or crap outside even if the toilets were open , rather than walk up the road to the public toilets they use the lanes and bushes in here Edinburgh

Chillipeanuts · 21/05/2020 10:17

Alsohuman

Everyone was social distancing, including the loo queue. If a privately run place can get its shit together”

I see what you did there Grin

I’m dug in I suppose because with 3 vulnerable family members, 1 extremely, we’ll be effectively isolating for as long as it takes for treatments to be developed.

I can understand the frustration of healthy people (believe me, I’m one myself!). I have no problem at all with them getting out and about in a sensible way. Just because I can’t, I don’t expect other people to stay locked up. However, I would at the moment still be concerned about shared facilities. I also think that infection rates will rise again as people relax and drop their guard. Reading newspapers, watching BBC, it’s almost like fingers in ears, la la la, I can’t see it. Let’s all go on holiday, to pubs, shopping centres. I do think a bit more patience is required, in terms of people travelling great distances.

Privately run places have a profit motive. Councils don’t but do have responsibility for health and safety, hence I think their caution.

FeedMeSantiago · 21/05/2020 10:18

"@Aretheystillasleepbob have you ever been to skeg?

You see this behaviour when all the bloody facilities ARE open! I believe that poster unfortunately. It can be grim."

I grew up near Skegness. I can well believe that people would shit on the beach there too!

Chapel St Leonard's and Ingoldmels beaches are much nicer than Skeggy.

Chloemol · 21/05/2020 10:20

@Francina670

No they don’t need to open the toilets immediately, what a stupid ignorant comment. Who would make sure they remain clean? They are closed for a reason, namely they can’t be kept clear of the virus as the whole toilet would need cleaning between each visit.

Those that travel miles to sit on the beach need to stop and think. Yes it maybe nice for them, but their behaviour then means those that live in said town now can’t go out as social distancing has gone out of the window. There should be a mileage limit on going out at the moment

And you are being discrimatory by only assuming pregnant women will have a bladder problem

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 10:21

I'm making a careful note of those places which are putting out "not welcome here" type notices and are telling tourists to keep away

I'm making a careful note of the sulky posters who will have forgotten entirely about this in 12 months and will happily be noodling around tourist areas.

Ravenclawgirl · 21/05/2020 10:21

I peed in the bushes on a very posh street in Edinburgh yesterday. I'm damned if I'm going to be tied to a tiny radius by the size of my bladder

Disgusting! Do please vote for independence next time you get the chance.

madcatladyforever · 21/05/2020 10:24

I always take my own toilet bucket with me if I'm going anywhere, it's basically a bucket with a toilet seat on it and a lid and you just put a sterilising tablet and some water in it, job done.
The smell doesn't escape when the lid is down and you just empty it in a public toilet on the way home.
Standard camping equipment, why do people have to be so disgusting! It is possible to manage your own excrement. You can get plastic liners as well which can be tied up then exposed off at your leisure like dog poo.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 10:25

I pee in the sea. I have never done an open air shit. I can recommend having a good look at your diet so you can have a nice regular morning and evening shit.

lazylinguist · 21/05/2020 10:25

You do realise that lots of beaches don't have toilets anyway? And neither do lots of outdoor places that people go to walk - up mountains, in the middle of national parks etc? I agree people shouldn't be travelling hours to get to beaches etc atm, but MN is bizarrely obsessed with toilets.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 10:28

Yes my secret beach doesn't have a loo. If any of us were desperate we would just go home. I still remind everyone to go before we leave!

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/05/2020 10:29

This was posted on the I-Yorkshire Facebook page yesterday evening. Looks like there's a disposable nappy among the rubbish left behind...

to wonder where all the beach revellers are toileting?
OnlyThenWhen · 21/05/2020 10:30

They need to open toilets immediately. It’s verging on discriminatory. Many women have bladder weakness after pregnancy and it’s a real problem at the moment

Or they could stay at home. The beach isn't going anywhere.

Bossycat · 21/05/2020 10:31

I was out for 3 hours yesterday part of which was a walk on a beach. I hold on and wear a tena just in case.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 21/05/2020 10:31

They need to open toilets immediately. It’s verging on discriminatory. Many women have bladder weakness after pregnancy and it’s a real problem at the moment

So stay at bloody home then!
Sorry, but we're still on a partial lockdown and why should they reopen the toilets - it's obvious that a lot of the country is still kind of closed.
As for people toileting on the beach, if true that is absolutely RANK and some people are disgusting.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 10:33

This is just making more angry about Brexit. Otherwise I could be planning my move out of this bloody country which is full of barbarians.

Fluffybutter · 21/05/2020 10:42

The state our local beaches were left in yesterday was bloody disgusting. Rubbish, dirty nappies, human excrement, absolutely vile. The councils have made it absolutely clear, we are not yet open for business, and that includes the toilets
But having them shut is causing more of an issue .
People are still travelling knowing facilities aren’t open so at least if there were toilets open it may lessen nappies etc on the beach? Are their still bins being emptied along there ?

Fluffybutter · 21/05/2020 10:43

*there

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 10:44

I think its really hard to find staff willing to clean the loos at the moment tbh!

LastTrainEast · 21/05/2020 10:44

Francina670 "They need to open toilets immediately" don't you have one at home?

OnlyThenWhen · 21/05/2020 10:48

Fluffybutter or people could take their rubbish home with them and not be fucking dirty bastards who leave it for others to clean up.
