I think I'd rather stay at home

I'd respectfully suggest hospitals are more crucial than your trip to the beach

I’d respectfully suggest that’s entirely irrelevant, the point that was being made is that it’s entirely possible to open and clean public toilets.

frasersmummy · 21/05/2020 09:38

@PinkMonkeyBird that's not true. The RNLI are still on call via 999 and asking for the coastguard...
Beach lifeguards are not there at the moment

Serin · 21/05/2020 09:39

Wow, didnt realise the RNLI had announced they were not responding to calls. Cant blame them, they have a duty to protect their volunteers.
The idiots from Manc and Liverpool were out on their jet skis all around Angelsey at the weekend.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/05/2020 09:42

There are ways of making camping toilets using a bin bag, pool noodle and a bucket. All the waste can then be taken home and disposed of properly.

I agree with you - but the same people who won't even properly dispose their dog's mess will ignore suggestions like this, unfortunately. The increase in dog poo is revolting in our local parks.

Unshriven · 21/05/2020 09:42

Where are you PinkMonkeyBird ?

The RNLI were out a few times here yesterday.

I feel quite lucky now with all our cleaners, toilets and lifeboats.

AJPTaylor · 21/05/2020 09:46

I have to say that this week I'm sceptical of all the "people travelling for miles" stuff. Some yes, but "locals" on our fb sites seem to forget that there is a population of 95 000 In the town. Most of these would not normally go to the beach mid week, mid day. A lovely sunny day it makes total sense to make the most of what you have available!

Fluffytail1 · 21/05/2020 09:47

Just wondering, sorry not sure how to start new thread.... how are we helping child carers and child victims of domestic abuse right now? There’s lots about elderly/ infirm/ those classed as ‘at risk’ but how can we help children who have no friends to visit, no teachers to notice abuse, and children terrified by what’s going on but who look after someone right now? Haven’t seen anything on news or media about this. How can we help these children?

1forsorrow · 21/05/2020 09:47

It is madness not to open the toilets. I live near a beach, we have car parks and toilets open.

GBarmy · 21/05/2020 09:48

The state our local beaches were left in yesterday was bloody disgusting. Rubbish, dirty nappies, human excrement, absolutely vile. The councils have made it absolutely clear, we are not yet open for business, and that includes the toilets.

People need to remember that we are still in the middle of a very real and deadly pandemic. Bumbling Boris might be sending mixed messages, but the country is still in lockdown, and people just need to use common sense and stay closer to home for the time being

Chillipeanuts · 21/05/2020 09:49

Francina670

They need to open toilets immediately. It’s verging on discriminatory. Many women have bladder weakness after pregnancy and it’s a real problem at the moment“

Would you be happy using a lavatory that wasn’t being regularly cleaned between dozens of users atm?
I wouldn’t!

1forsorrow · 21/05/2020 09:51

Fluffytail1 I think it depends, one of my kids is a teacher, if they don't get work back from a child they contact the home and try to speak to a parent and child, they do fortnightly calls to all children, they have vulnerable children in school, if they are worried they do home visits (not going into the home but standing on pavement/drive) they make sure FSM children are getting vouchers, they have given out all the tech they can to help children who don't have access.

Not all schools do as much.

Chachang · 21/05/2020 09:51

The trouble is that the government are saying you are 'allowed' to travel, but places are keeping toilets closed to try and put people off going and also due to the worry of toilets being a place it spreads. I would probably say it's more unhygienic and a risk to have people doing it in public though.

1forsorrow · 21/05/2020 09:52

Would you be happy using a lavatory that wasn’t being regularly cleaned between dozens of users atm? Beach is only five minutes from my house so not an issue but if it was I'd carry cleaning wipes, hand wipes, sanitizer. Might not be perfect but better than no loo.

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 09:53

That’s a risk you have to take if you go more than 30 minutes from home. I’d certainly rather do that than wild wee. I’d wear disposable gloves and throw them away as I left.

Chillipeanuts · 21/05/2020 09:54

Or maybe Just be a bit more patient and not drive miles to a beach with the world and his/her wife?

SoNooneRecognisesMe · 21/05/2020 09:58

@Fluffytail1

Just above the title of this thread, it should say, "Start new thread in this topic".

yelyah22 · 21/05/2020 10:01

YABU to say toileting. But yeah I wondered this, too.

Magicra84 · 21/05/2020 10:02

Discriminatory GrinHmm

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 10:02

I think we’ve all been pretty patient already. Nine weeks on Monday. It’s fine for people like me, I live in a beautiful place and have a garden. If I was cooped up in a flat with a couple of kids, I’d be off to the beach in a heartbeat.

As it is I travelled 30 miles this week to the grounds of a stately home to meet my son for a walk. It’s never closed. Everyone was social distancing, including the loo queue. If a privately run place can get its shit together, it’s not a big ask for councils to do it.

Astrabees · 21/05/2020 10:04

I'm making a careful note of those places which are putting out "not welcome here" type notices and are telling tourists to keep away. I'll be keeping away from them when everything is open again and I have some money to spend. For too many years it has been clear that many tourist areas regard visitors as an opportunity to charge ridiculous prices, well hopefully the worm will turn.

TomNook · 21/05/2020 10:06

Why is this a thing? Wee in the sea

bellinisurge · 21/05/2020 10:07

Ffs. They are "turning you away" because they aren't set up for mobs of people.
Just grow the fuck up.

ScarletFever · 21/05/2020 10:07

people who would do this, are not the kind of people defecating on the beach

Alsohuman · 21/05/2020 10:10

We know that. The point is they should be set up for mobs of people. They’re set up when those mobs of people are benefiting their economy.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/05/2020 10:10

Not everyone in these pictures has travelled for miles to go to the beach, or is on them all day.

We went to one yesterday and there was room to be socially distant. I don’t know if the toilets were open because we were only there for a couple of hours and didn’t need to find out.
