To think we don’t need a lockdown disclaimer for EVERYTHING?

It’s driving me absolutely daft. We all know about lockdown. It’s impossible to avoid your life being affected or even dominated by lockdown. Yet on every MN thread or social media post, some po-faced Head Girl type HAS to ask ‘How on earth are you doing X and Y during lockdown?!’ or snidely say ‘I assume you will of course be following social distancing guidelines’.

Examples: a thread today about dating. ‘How are you dating during lockdown?!’ Surely it’s not too big a leap to think it doesn’t have to be physically dating at the moment? Another one recently about a woman’s behaviour at the gym. Any idiot could have worked out that the incident either happened before lockdown or the OP is in another country - but no, out come the lockdown police.

I posted on a Facebook group called Terrible Art in Charity Shops and was instantly asked how I’d taken the photograph during lockdown. Through the fucking window! What did they expect me to say, that I broke into Oxfam and rooted through the stock room? In our local group, I’ve seen people offering to give away items like children’s bikes that could easily be left in the front garden - the two parties would never have to meet. From some of the responses, you’d think they’d suggested coming over for an orgy.

Is there anyone who really thinks they’re being helpful by doing this? Or are they just showing what good little boys and girls they are, desperate to tell teacher if anyone is naughty? And if so, can we keep them indoors after lockdown is over?

YANBU

Whatever happened to "going for a walk"? Now it has to be a "socially distanced walk"

Life is being dominated far too much by the reactionto this bloody virus without everyone rubbing it in innecessarily with every description.

Fucktacula · 20/05/2020 17:39

I'm in that Facebook group too. Hi!

shookbelves · 20/05/2020 18:25

I want to join that facebook group now!

bloodyhellsbellsx · 20/05/2020 18:28

Aye people are that bored, they’ll take any potential argument available at the minute 🤣

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:31

I hate that every TV show has to include a "this programme was filmed before social distancing arrangements came into force"

WE CAN FIGURE THAT ONE OUT!

Washyourhandsyoufilthyanimal · 20/05/2020 18:34

YANBU and this post actually made me laugh! Thank you OP. My favourite is when the OP will say oh this happened a few months ago before lockdown and the first comment will be HOW DID YOU GO TO THE PUB IN LOCKDOWN!????

Chocolateandamaretto · 20/05/2020 18:34

Yeah it’s like when people have to ad “I’m going for a socially distanced cuppa with a friend” “I’m going for a socially distanced walk with my mum” etc
We get it, you’re obeying the rules!

If I never hear the phrase “socially distanced” again it will be too soon!

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:37

If I never hear:
Socially distanced
Social isolation
Self isolation
Unprecedented times
or any "heartwarming" story about some twits on a street who sit there with a cup of tea bitching about the world (see most of the shit on the One Show)

It will be not a moment too soon.

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2020 18:39

Re pp there are some CV19 terms I never want to hear again too.

I was compiling a list in my mind today.

SmileyClare · 20/05/2020 18:43

Yes to the this programme was filmed before social distancing arrangements were in place which is obvious.

I assume they have to announce this because outraged viewers were phoning in with complaints and threats to report the Great British Bake Off forthwith for "flouting" guidelines. Confused

Wishandwonder · 20/05/2020 18:51

On a selling site I saw an item advertised as coming from a pet free, smoke free and Covid free house 😂😂😂😂😭

WingingItSince1973 · 20/05/2020 18:57

Early on on lockdown I arranged to collect a free item from a few streets away on the local facebook group. One woman had a right go at me saying I shouldnt be leaving the house for non essentials etc etc. I calmly said I will collect the item from the driveway of the house on my dog walk/daily exercise permit. She wasnt having any of it and was very rude. I didnt let it upset me as I knew I wasnt doing anything wrong. Since then people have been gifting things all over the town and leaving them in a socially distanced place to collect x

SmileyClare · 20/05/2020 19:05

Before dh returned to his building site they all had to watch an induction video, the first ten minutes of which explained in very simple terms that there is a virus we need to be aware of now.

They were then given a sticker to put on their hard hat "I'm covid aware"

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 20/05/2020 19:18

I’m in that FB group too!! Hello all TAICS groupies!

ALongHardWinter · 20/05/2020 19:32

OP I totally agree with you! I swear if I hear the words 'social distancing' 'lockdown','shielding' or 'self isolating' once more,I shall bloody scream. Even my phone recognises these words on predictive text now!

I am also weary of the constant 'preaching' from certain quarters. I have a very good friend whom I've known for years, but OMG she has driven me to distraction at times over the last couple of months. Her latest announcement was that I shouldn't even consider going out and resuming my normal life until a vaccine was available (I am classed as vulnerable so have been staying in. I'm not going to use THAT word!) for the last 8 weeks). Fuck that! I will take what precautions are necessary but I am not putting my life on hold for another 18 months.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2020 19:37

If I never hear:...

The new normal. 🤬

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2020 19:44

For me it's people appropriating the language to sound important especially on here

I'm shielding although not in the official group/my next door neighbours cats GP is surprised I haven't had a letter/I have

My dd/dh/self is at risk so we haven't been out except all those times we have been out

Etc

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2020 19:45

It's like no Mumsnetter yet has ever been to a and e unless 111 'insisted' and they were never driven but 'blue lighted'

SisterFarAway · 20/05/2020 20:08

I love the one on my timeline who overuses the #stayathome but drives from London to Kent twice in a week to just go to the beach.

Fucktacula · 20/05/2020 20:35

Have any of you recreated anything yet? 🤣

OccasionalNachos · 20/05/2020 20:58

This thread warms my soul. I am sick to fucking death of all the nonsense. “Unprecedented times” in particular, the work email sign-off of everyone and their dog.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 21/05/2020 07:16

I found found when this all started if anybody offered anything Such as hand sanitizer etc on local Facebook pages It would be met with a barrage of replies from people trying to justify why they would receive the item.
Each reply seemed to consist of somebody’s full medical history. It was ridiculous like a competition of who had the most worthy relatives.

Now it’s like a competition of who has been the biggest martyr staying inside the longest, who has the most shielding relatives. Generally Many of these people appear not to have Needed to shield Or stay in but just choose to do it and are very happy to get everyone to do everything for them.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 21/05/2020 07:18

I hate seeing the term “daily exercise” in captions too. Just say you went for a walk?

StealthPolarBear · 21/05/2020 07:22

Phrases I'd be glad to never hear again
"waffle waffle, hearts go out... heroes on the front line, evade the question, more waffle, bit more waffle, moving on"
