To think we don’t need a lockdown disclaimer for EVERYTHING?

It’s driving me absolutely daft. We all know about lockdown. It’s impossible to avoid your life being affected or even dominated by lockdown. Yet on every MN thread or social media post, some po-faced Head Girl type HAS to ask ‘How on earth are you doing X and Y during lockdown?!’ or snidely say ‘I assume you will of course be following social distancing guidelines’.

Examples: a thread today about dating. ‘How are you dating during lockdown?!’ Surely it’s not too big a leap to think it doesn’t have to be physically dating at the moment? Another one recently about a woman’s behaviour at the gym. Any idiot could have worked out that the incident either happened before lockdown or the OP is in another country - but no, out come the lockdown police.

I posted on a Facebook group called Terrible Art in Charity Shops and was instantly asked how I’d taken the photograph during lockdown. Through the fucking window! What did they expect me to say, that I broke into Oxfam and rooted through the stock room? In our local group, I’ve seen people offering to give away items like children’s bikes that could easily be left in the front garden - the two parties would never have to meet. From some of the responses, you’d think they’d suggested coming over for an orgy.

Is there anyone who really thinks they’re being helpful by doing this? Or are they just showing what good little boys and girls they are, desperate to tell teacher if anyone is naughty? And if so, can we keep them indoors after lockdown is over?

Please stop with the fucking "daily walk"!

We are now officially allowed to exercise as much as we want, we can stop with using that "daily walk" to justify anything and everything, mainly completely unnecessary outings blatantly flouting the guidelines anyway.

It's gone, move on, no more "daily walk".

I hate that every TV show has to include a "this programme was filmed before social distancing arrangements came into force

I've only heard that once and it was really annoying. Are people really too thick to understand that and have been complaining

Yes they really are. At the beginning of lockdown BBC Countryfile had a couple of programmes that had been made "before the social distancing rules came into effect". They generally film 2-3 weeks ahead.

When they showed the first of those programmes their Twitter account was hit by a barrage of virtue signalling coronastasi. At the end of the programme the continuity announcer explained it was filmed before. The following week they must have put in about five disclaimers.

I don't know why they bother to humour the stupid twotsits.

nobodysdaughter · 21/05/2020 14:24

Well how did you write this post?!! I do hope you were abiding by the current lockdown rules? Eg - two metres away from anyone of outside, in your own house, only containing members of your house, with no parents hiding in the garden. OP DOESNT SAY! VERY confusing, and purposely obtuse imo!

prettygreenteacup · 21/05/2020 14:27

YANBU. Totally agree, it is infuriating and cultivating an attitude of self-righteous judgement!

prettygreenteacup · 21/05/2020 14:29

I feel the same about "keyworker", it just sounds like one of those cringey middle-management meeting words - like "reaching out" or "cascading data".

This made me laugh out loud; love a bit of data cascading 😂 We have a staff meeting bingo and one of them to get is always "cascade"

DappledThings · 21/05/2020 14:37

@cologne4711 I think I've just given up having any faith in the British public now! Are they going to have to start setting it was filmed before social distancing on everything? Those reruns of 1980s gameshows on Challenge?

FrameByFrame · 21/05/2020 14:55

As a 'Frontline Healthcare Professional' (First Aider at the office), I insist on 'full PPE' (rubber gloves) as I 'put myself at risk' carrying out 'essential duties'. I think that pretty makes me an 'unsung hero', so I hope you'll all be clapping for me tonight (at a social distance from your 'community-spirited' neighbours, of course) Wink

HauntedGoatFart · 21/05/2020 14:56

YANBU. I hate the whole "socially distanced walk" thing, but if you mention seeing anyone at all ever and don't include those two little words it takes seconds for some "YOU'RE KILLING GRANNIES THE ROOLZ" Dementor to be all up in your grill. I really don't want to have to get into it with my colleagues when I mention in passing what I've done today, so I sigh mentally and caveat.

I'd fed up with the hero worshipping of NHS staff, even though I'm one myself (mental health nurse) and working throughout. I think I used a discount once on a takeaway, and have only jumped a supermarket queue once-and that was because I'd been out all day doing home visits and needed to go into Morrison to use the loo. There could be care home staff etc that i'm queue jumping in front of. I don't like the idea of free food, coffee etc when there are people losing their jobs left right and centre.

And don't get me started on the clapping. I'm dreading 8pm this evening. It's so patronising.

And I hate the martyrs and the fun police. Someone was having a go about an ice cream van on my FB today. I said as long as the vendor uses good hand hygiene, I can't see the difference between that and a takeaway especially as many ice cream men take contactless. Just be sensible. If you don't want to take a risk, don't buy the bloody icecream!

SecondaryBurnzzz · 21/05/2020 16:03

I find the clapping really cringey too. I just want to yell - 'Give them a pay rise and equip them properly'.

The80sweregreat · 21/05/2020 16:10

It's a tough call isn't it? Some people do need to be told things at every step of the way : some do what they like anyway and some take it all too far! I tend to go down the common sense , risk assess and do whatever feels right at the time , approach.
I wash hands wear gloves and go out for essentials and my walk and keep away from people as much as I can. I don't go to beaches as I don't like sand much anyway.
It's all we can do for now.

cologne4711 · 21/05/2020 16:45

It's like when someone posts a photo from their car and you always get some wise-crack about "I hope you didn't take that while you were driving".

Big sigh followed by no, my passenger did.

The80sweregreat · 21/05/2020 16:50

Disclaimer ; tv programmes made in Jan or Feb or before these dates will show people in pubs or out and about and may cause some viewers distress (followed by a helpline number. )

I did see an article by a law firm about adverts shown during lockdown and that advertisers should be careful about not showing people doing anything that wasn't in accordance with the lockdown rules. I thought "what a load of nonsense" and that the Advertising Standards Authority doesn't have enough to do if it's going to say that any adverts made before lockdown can't be shown.

Anyway I was trying to find the article yesterday evening when I first saw this thread and I think that section of the article has been deleted. The government pensions ad shows a chef in a busy kitchen so I think it would be difficult to say you can't advertise normality. Different if eg you advertised trips to beaches when the government had specifically said "no going to beaches".

SecondaryBurnzzz · 21/05/2020 17:45

One possibly stupid question- instead of creating a new track and trace app, can’t we just buy/use an existing one? Lots of countries have used them successfully already.

Yanbu. Im sick to death of the lockdown police..were in Ireland and restrictions have been eased a little since Monday you can now meet a few people outside. so went for a walk down to my friends and we sat for a couple of hours in her garden it was so good but tainted it when my neighbour started questioning me on where I had been when I got back! Some people just love to Lord it over others. Thanks for this thread op I'm glad it's not just me feeling resentful about people being so judgemental.
