I keep getting a banner on the site saying Mumsnet needs my help. Has anyone signed up for Premium - is it worth it?

No one?

I haven't. It's a bit rich asking your users for help when a lot of them will be having financial concerns.

NeutralJanet · 19/05/2020 19:07

Haven't signed up, don't intend to. I haven't got an ad blocker either before I get accused of "freeloading".

SummerHouse · 19/05/2020 19:11

The 'needs your help' part puts me off. It's payment for better access not a charitable cause or personal favour....

Mrscaindingle · 19/05/2020 19:14

I have as presently there are TRA's trying to get advertisers to pull out of Mumsnet and actively pursuing companies who advertise here.
I would hate to see MN go under because of this I have had many years of support, invaluable information and laughs on these boards so am happy to do this while I can.
If you can't afford it don't do it but to me it's worth doing.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/05/2020 19:15

I have, very happy to pay for less adverts.

LemonPudding · 19/05/2020 19:32

I thought about it but until they stop the attacks on teachers they can whistle.

JaniceBattersby · 19/05/2020 19:34

I have. It’s worth a fiver a month to me. Happy to support any business I use regularly and value. So many women would have been worse off if mumsnet weren’t here during the last couple of decades.

tilder · 19/05/2020 19:34

I haven't. Various reasons. I have started clicking on ads though as I think that helps.

SabrinaThwaite · 19/05/2020 19:36

Nope. I looked at the last set of accounts.

zscaler · 19/05/2020 19:39

I haven’t and tbh I won’t. I barely notice the ads and can’t see that I would gain much from the premium version of the site. At this time I would rather spent my money on local businesses to me that I really care about and want to survive.

Truthpact · 19/05/2020 19:41

Haha not a chance.

SabrinaThwaite · 19/05/2020 19:43

Oh and given all the past data breaches, I wouldn’t want to give MN access to any of my financial data.

MrsWooster · 19/05/2020 19:45

I have. It’s a quid a week for a site that I value and enjoy. Also every tiny gesture of support helps against the Men’s Rights Activists trying to attack women’s space to talk...

MayFayner · 19/05/2020 19:45

I might, when the new features “coming soon” have actually materialised.

If they turn out to be something good, that is.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 19/05/2020 19:47

I have yes and quite gladly. I don't even care about whether or not I see adverts tbh, it's been an invaluable source of help and information to me over the last 15 years so more than happy to chip in when they're struggling.

colouringindoors · 19/05/2020 19:48

Yes because its the only place online you can talk about concerns around trans and gender ideology. And bullying from a couple of vocal and unpleasant individuals has meant major advertisers are pulling campaigns.

Nicknacky · 19/05/2020 19:50

I’m curious to know how many people that did sign up for it and have now cancelled.

tinylittlehat · 19/05/2020 19:51

Yes, I have. Not too bothered about the new features to be honest. I spend so much time on here and I just see it as paying for content I read.

anothernamechangeagain · 19/05/2020 19:52

No, and I won't be

HopeYouStepOnALego · 19/05/2020 20:05

No way! I'm not paying for basic features that should already be available, and are available for free on other sites. The ads don't bother me.

66redballons · 19/05/2020 20:08

Not a chance, research them, they are not as hard up as you think. They use other people’s tales and now want use to pay for the privilege. Hmmmm nope.

CoronaIsComing · 19/05/2020 20:29

No as there isn’t actually any extra features and I won’t while they keep allowing all the teacher bashing posts. I only use the forum so that’s content that hasn’t been created by Mumsnet any way

SpeedofaSloth · 19/05/2020 20:30

Yes.

MagnoliaJustice · 19/05/2020 21:06

If people want to subscribe, I don't see that it matters one way or another. It's not a huge amount of money for a lot of posters, judging by all the people who claim to earn 6 figure salaries and live in huge detached houses in the Home Counties Grin

I can being asked to pay to join Digital Spy because they wouldn't accept a gmail/hotmail/yahoo email address. The money wasn't for any additional features iirc, it was just to stop people registering with throwaway email addresses and trolling the shit out of the place as far as I am aware. That was in the mid 2000's. I think it's free to join now though.
