I keep getting a banner on the site saying Mumsnet needs my help. Has anyone signed up for Premium - is it worth it?

OP posts:
Pomegranatepompom · 19/05/2020 21:09

No, I thought the timing was thoughtless.

Happygroundhogday · 19/05/2020 21:10

Nope. It’s an extortionate amount they’re asking for with little to no benefits.

Not even no ads, just fewer Confused No features. And sometime soon a few retailer discounts.

They have a massive cheek asking for so much for so little when you can get Disney’s entire back catalog for the same price.

BakedCam · 19/05/2020 21:14

And much less chance of Disney calling you a cunt.

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 21:16

Lots of sites have a premium membership. It's not that unusual.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/05/2020 21:17

I wouldn’t have minded paying but it’s just too expensive imo for what you get

Nicknacky · 19/05/2020 21:17

Have people that paid got the edit function?

heartsonacake · 19/05/2020 21:28

Have people that paid got the edit function?

Of course they haven’t.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 19/05/2020 21:30

So won't the posters saying no chance not miss it if it went?

heartsonacake · 19/05/2020 21:31

Lots of sites have a premium membership. It's not that unusual.

Except that MN premium has no features, empty promises of things coming soon, regular safety breaches into their software and a tech team that doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing.

At least most other sites with a premium service actually have something to offer that’s worth what they’re asking. MN doesn’t.

Nicknacky · 19/05/2020 21:32

heartsonacake That’s an outrage. It’s not a major feature but that was one of the selling points (I’m being generous calling it that)

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 21:37

So don't sign up for it then. Go find another site, or perhaps you already have?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 19/05/2020 21:37

I don't understand what benefits are immediately available if you did subscribe? Because clearly you wouldnt shell out unless you know what you're getting to get on receipt of payment?

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 21:38

Didn't take long for the spammers to find this thread.

Nicknacky · 19/05/2020 21:39

ClassicCola Who are you talking to? The op didn’t ask if she should she asked who had and was it worth it.

Dinosforall · 19/05/2020 21:39

Yes. It's given (and continues to give) me a lot of laughs and info for 13 years now. I regard it as a donation.

BillBaileysBum · 19/05/2020 21:39

Not since realising how much money they’ve made.

Nicknacky · 19/05/2020 21:40

Spammers? What have I missed here?

SabrinaThwaite · 19/05/2020 21:44

Spammers = cynics?

Valenciaoranges · 19/05/2020 21:45

No

Happygroundhogday · 19/05/2020 22:11

@ClassicCola You mean fantastic goalkeepers? - They stay alert, waiting...waiting...

Sometimes they even start one if the wait is too long.

Qwerty543 · 19/05/2020 22:16

Not a chance.

The owner of this site gets a 25k a month wage. There are fewer ads with the promise of other features at some point. 'Premium' it is not.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 19/05/2020 22:16

Yes. It's given (and continues to give) me a lot of laughs and info for 13 years now. I regard it as a donation.

does it still fee the same?
I find it all rather like a selfie or instagram- people making up stiff to present a life that they dont really have.

It seems so fake. Lots of drama queens- some using multiple posting names probably.

Lockdown has exposed this as people cant make up the same everyday crap and so what they have made up is so extreme that it is obviously fake.

And don't get me started on the Daily Mail. That has really destroyed Mumsnet for me.

NiceTwin · 19/05/2020 22:25

No.
If MN went pop tomorrow, there are plenty of other places to hang out.

LadyofTheManners · 19/05/2020 22:26

I must be missing something @Happygroundhogday, what do you mean?
I've wasn't on here for a while I left after the data breach but came back recently. But I was accused of being something sinister and my account closed for several days, along with a thread pulled whilst HQ looked behind the scenes, but until I emailed I had heard nothing so was baffled.
As you can see here I am back but I've noticed an awful lot more pulled threads and most of the time its due to the poster not being what they seem or not posting with good intentions or similar. I'm also blown away by how many really not very nice people are on here. There was the odd troll hunter back previously but nothing like now.
I kind of feel with as others mentioned the data breaches, plus the real overriding snobbishness and nastiness, plus the constant thread or message pulling for dubious reasons as I've experienced myself I wouldn't be willing to pay no.
And what if they ban you, dubiously or otherwise? Do you get a refund? Or are you possibly allowed to be a bit mean spirited but as a supporter you may proceed as you wish?
