Probably a crazy idea but planning for the long term that when this is all over and we are back to normal we are hoping to do a tour of the UK with our children. We’ve spent a lot of time in Cornwall and Dorset but want our children to see more of the lovely country that we live in.
Can I have some tips for some great places to visit and perhaps some hidden gems! Anywhere in the UK!

I was born in Liverpool but live just outside of the area now...however, I would recommend for longer stays Hale Village (the Childe of Hale is fascinating folklore), Speke Hall, Woolton Village (as Beatles fans we love going there and it is so quaint) and Allerton Road cafes, bars and charity shops. There's also Lark Lane - all in the south of the city. Otterspool Prom takes you a few miles walk along the river to the Festival Gardens and then into the city docklands. Try and visit Liverpool when they put on one of their fabulous cultural attractions such as the Giants or a free music festival. I have never experienced a buzz like it. Also, loads of guided walking tours to plenty of listed buildings - apparently second only to London. Plus Crosby beach is a must see for Gormley's Another Place and Freshfields / Formby for the dunes and the red squirrels. Then there's Wirral - oh my - take a ferry across the Mersey snd visit Port Sunlight, West Kirby, Wirral Country Park, Deeside estuary...many people are not aware that Merseyside has so much to offer. In fact, stay for a week at least. All the gin bars and Liverpool has its own gin. Plus you can go on your own and Scousers will look after you! I really miss it Star

Everyone is mentioning all these beautiful places and then I’m like “I really miss Nemesis “ 😂

The Cotswolds, particularly Cirencester and Chipping Campden.
Oxford.
Bath.
The Lakes.
Edinburgh and East Lothian, particularly North Berwick.
Cornwall and Devon, particularly Padstow and Salcombe.
Dorset, particularly Lyme Regis and Bridport.
Wales, particularly Cardiff and the Gower coast which is stunning and so much quieter than Cornwall etc in summer.
I can’t wait to get travelling again!!

Skye is beautiful but far too busy and touristy most of the time. Many locals have been priced out due to incoming London money- it's very sad. The Silver Sands of Morar / Arisaig is not far from there and just mind blowing.

Northumberland- like half the thread! Banburgh beach is just wonderful.

Agree that Liverpool is a fab weekend away- great for teens, I took my teen DC in Oct half term and it was fantastic.

Ineedabreak and Summer thank you so much! you really got me excited about Liverpool (and the area) and I will now plan a long w/end once it all gets going.
How hte heck have I still not been there? I've travelled all over England (and Edinburgh within UK) but not the North West (furhterest I went in that direction was Chester). Been to the NE a few times now. .For some reason I expect it to be rainy and grey - but whatever, I'm def going there first thing Grin.

Also a big gap for me is Wales (apart from Cardiff, been a couple of times) and I'd like to go ti Belfast as hear good things, incl on this thread. Glasgow too!

There are a lot of places I love but the most specific is langstrothdale. My birthday day out of choice for over forty years has been the drive from buckden to hawes with a stop off at yockenthwaite to play in the water.
