Probably a crazy idea but planning for the long term that when this is all over and we are back to normal we are hoping to do a tour of the UK with our children. We’ve spent a lot of time in Cornwall and Dorset but want our children to see more of the lovely country that we live in.
Can I have some tips for some great places to visit and perhaps some hidden gems! Anywhere in the UK!

My favorite, without question, is Dartmouth.

I love:
NE coast : Seahouses, Bamburgh, Alnwick
North Berwick coast along to Edinburgh
City of Edinburgh
York
Chester
Windermere and along the A66 Pennines/Dales
Peak District - Buxton & Bakewell
Perthshire and Loch Tay
Aviemore

The Cotswolds

Shorter term more outdoors
Kew Gardens
Northumberland coast

Longer term when indoor things are open - London for galleries
York - minster and general atmosphere

snowybean · 18/05/2020 22:31

Oh, Kew Gardens... I miss it so much!

ToothlessReg · 18/05/2020 22:33

Northumberland and the Pembrokeshire coast. Beautiful and not so touristy as to feel fake.

Echobelly · 18/05/2020 22:36

Whitstable is one of our favourite places

Crimsonnightlotus · 18/05/2020 22:38

Scotland. Especially up north, going towards Ullapool.

Hunnybears · 18/05/2020 22:40

Right now..... The pub anywhere, I’m not fussy 😫

Guylan · 18/05/2020 22:41

The Gower, especially Rhossili Bay, Peak District. Yorkshire Moors and Dales Cotswolds, Rye in Sussex, mid Wales. West Coast in Scotland. Not been to any of the Scottish islands but always hear good reports. The Lizard, Cornwall. Forest of Dean/Wye Valley.

I have heard Pembrokeshire coast is beautiful and the Norfolk coastline. Likewise Shropshire.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 22:41

With kids - north wales, lots of different things so variable weather less important.

Mull - fabulous wildlife.

Maybe not with kids...The western isles, especially Harris. The colour of the sea over the white shell sand beaches is astonishing.

Pleasenodont · 18/05/2020 22:42

Whitby, Windermere and London.

SerenDippitty · 18/05/2020 22:43

Brecon Beacons
Hay on Wye
Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion Coast
Port Isaac
Isle of Skye

Like others have mentioned, the Cotswolds. Absolutely beautiful area, and friendly welcoming people who share their lovely towns and villages generously. I was meant to be there last month actually, but I now have it to look forward to next year.

London is probably my all time favourite place though, especially round the Green Park / Picadilly area. I also love York and Harrogate, and Edinburgh too but I'm a bit biased as that's where I was brought up.

Defenestratethecat · 18/05/2020 22:46

Northumberland, N York Moors, Ennerdale, Crummock, Buttermere, Loweswater. Rhins of Galloway. Teesdale. Glens in NE Scotland.

zscaler · 18/05/2020 22:46

The Isle of Skye. The landscape is beyond anything anywhere else in the UK, and the drive up to it is magical too. I’m longing to go when we can travel again.

SerenDippitty · 18/05/2020 22:50

zscaler Me too. We had a trip planned for June which is obviously not going ahead. We've booked the same dates for next year.

Defenestratethecat · 18/05/2020 22:52

Brockhampton in Herefordshire - hidden valley, serene, peaceful, a place to live a whole life.

Khione · 18/05/2020 22:57

Whitby

Castleton and surrounding areas in Derbyshire - visiting Blue John, Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell (Speedwell is great fun for 8ish to 15ish year old in particular. There is also Mam Tor and Peveril Castle.
So much to do with older children in that area.

ShirazSavedMySanity · 18/05/2020 22:59

Abersoch and the Llyn Peeninsula, just beautiful.

The Isle of Man - beautiful coastline, fabulous walks in valleys and up mountains.

Skipton is good for the soul.

Aldburgh and Southwold.

yearinyearout · 18/05/2020 22:59

Appledore In north Devon, Edinburgh, st David's area in Pembrokeshire, Saunton sands/croyde bay, Devon.

yearinyearout · 18/05/2020 23:00

Missed Northumberland, beaches are amazing!

Butteredtoast55 · 18/05/2020 23:10

Totally love Northumberland too but I'm loathe to recommend it as part of the joy is the solitude Wink. Also I love North Yorkshire, the Pembrokeshire coastal path, Snowdonia and the journey from the North Wales coast inland through the mountains is breathtaking. And I love the Peak District and the Derbyshire dales. The UK has some beautiful areas.
