Probably a crazy idea but planning for the long term that when this is all over and we are back to normal we are hoping to do a tour of the UK with our children. We’ve spent a lot of time in Cornwall and Dorset but want our children to see more of the lovely country that we live in.
Can I have some tips for some great places to visit and perhaps some hidden gems! Anywhere in the UK!

Totally agree with PP about Ullswater in The Lakes. Also Wastwater.

My favourite bits of Cornwall are The Lizard, Bude and South East are they are less developed and you can actually get on a beach in August.

Wells Cathedral is stunning.

Greenwich is my favourite part of London as I used to live near there. It’s the bit of London that has changed the least when we visit.

Pembrokeshire (where my DH is from). The North Coast and St David’s are my favourite areas.

Dartmoor

I finally made it to Laugharne in Carmarthenshire (Under Milk Wood pilgrimage). Lovely feeling to the place and worth a detour if heading to Pembrokeshire.

I love the North Norfolk coast. I’m lucky that work usually takes me there a few times a week. Aldeburgh is my happy place and my favourite city is Liverpool.

Never fail to come back happy from these places 🥰

BurtonHouse · 19/05/2020 22:04

North Devon, Lake District, north Norfolk, Dorset. Love Edinburgh and was surprisingly impressed with Norwich.
Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire is stunning, as are the Yorkshire Dales. Northumberland coast.
Dammit, what am I doing still sitting at home???

rhowton · 19/05/2020 22:23

St Just and St Mawes in Cornwall! My absolute favourite place. Oh and London! I just can't wait to watch shows again and see my friends.

HeyHoLetsGoAgain · 19/05/2020 22:26

Fratton Park Portsmouth, and the Electric Arms before and after the match.

geojojo · 19/05/2020 22:29

Norwich, the North Norfolk coast, Greenwich, Bristol, Cambridge, York.

PositiveLife · 19/05/2020 22:30

Snowdonia
Most of Scotland
I suppose I should put the lake district (grew up there so I don't really see it as a holiday destination!)
York is nice for a city break
Lots of Yorkshire (but again as I live there I don't think of it as a holiday)

CarrieMoonbeams · 19/05/2020 22:33

Oh I'd forgotten about Cornwall! We stayed in a lovely cottage in Mylor Bridge many years ago, and saw Of Mice and Men at the Minack theatre during that holiday, it was absolutely beautiful and we'd love to go back there.

Spamellahamella · 19/05/2020 22:41

A very specific one, the Trusmadoor pass in the lakes. It's so beautiful and so remote. Takes my breath away at the crossroads. That's where I would go and walk tomorrow if I could. I actually live in Cumbria and have cycled to Ullswater a couple of times in lockdown. The lack of cars on the road has been a wonderful experience. I'd love to go out walking on the fells but I wouldn't risk getting into any difficulty at the moment.

Fluffybutter · 19/05/2020 22:50

@snowybean I am from Ealing ,moved away a few years back though .
Must admit I don’t really miss it as it’s changed so much but did love growing up
there

Fluffybutter · 19/05/2020 22:51

I actually miss the themeparks .
We are a theme park family and have been going for years , we always go to Alton towers in the Easter hols and have so much fun , moved it to end of July but that’ll be cancelled I’m sure

London, really missing The West End, The Embankment, the markets etc. never really shop there.

Cambridge, really missing the walks, John Lewis, the cafes, the people, the culture.

The Lame District, really missing the walks, the air, the pubs, the mountains, lakes and I'm even missing the rain!

CountFosco · 19/05/2020 23:26

Yet another vote for Northumbria, love Lindesfarne and Alnwick Gardens and Bamburgh. Also, N Yorkshire. It has Whitby, York, Harrogate, the Dales and the N York Moors, fantastic ruined Abbeys and some of the best stately homes in the country. Further south Oxford is lovely or you could head north to Scotland and experience the culture of Glasgow and the incredible landscape as you head up the A9.

wizzler · 19/05/2020 23:27

Bamburgh beach. We've a week booked in Bamburgh in August and I'm really hoping we can go. Closest place to heaven I know

Caswell Bay, South Wales. 3.5 hours from London and just gorgeous. Forget Cornwall!! We stay at a chalet park which is a 2 minute walk away. Bliss!

CatAndHisKit · 20/05/2020 00:36

Clarinet53 can you tell about Liverpool - planning to visit, what's a best way to plan a day's visit?

CatAndHisKit · 20/05/2020 00:39

Ineedabreak just saw your response - thank you! That's great, it's as if you knew that I love vintage/antique shops, and food.

CandyCaneLane0 · 20/05/2020 01:55

I second Caswell Bay, we always stay in the Redcliffe apartments right on the beach😍

Ineedabreak19 · 20/05/2020 05:01

@CatAndHisKit you are welcome! Try & stretch your visit to a weekend so you have more time.
www.visitliverpool.com/travel-trade/itineraries/best-of-liverpool-1-day

I'd take a bus tour around the city if you only have a day so you see the major sites & save your feet! Then you can spend late afternoon in the Baltic Triangle sipping cocktails & browsing in the vintage stalls.

Ineedabreak19 · 20/05/2020 05:06

Check out the Baltic market and Red Brick vintage on Facebook for opening times etc.
