To be annoyed that not all year 6 children that want to return to school can?

This is not a teacher or school bashing thread, I'm just interested in people's thoughts.

My child is in year 6, we have just been informed that out of a class of 30 only 10 children will be allowed to return to school because they don't have the staff to provide for any more.

These 10 children will be chosen on a first come first served basis, we have to email if we want our child to return.

This means that some children who want to return won't be able to.

AIBU to think that this is very unfair and that part time schooling for more groups would be more appropriate rather than one group in all the time.

We have always offered places to our 'not officially vulnerable but disadvantaged children', throughout the lockdown (in addition to 'officially vulnerable' and 'children of keyworkers'). Schools were asked at the beginning to use their judgement as to who they thought were vulnerable, and so those families were actively invited and encouraged to send their children.

Take-up from that group has been tiny - those who do have social workers can be much more strongly advised to attend, but there is little or no leverage on those families who just fall below the threshold, who are also often disengaged from education.

The same would happen if the school was opened more widely. Opening up to a whole year group is actually going to be much more successful in reaching those children, because of the peer pressure and lack of stigma in 'everyone's coming back in now'.

We've also loaned out a lot of the school ICT equipment to those who have little or no access to suitable devices.

If parents look around the net, some LA’s are putting the bits of info they online for all.

Since I asked about the cleaning mine have added something.

Ask the government.

They are still waiting for the info from the government that was mentioned as part of the plan.

Not that they really had anything to begin with when schools were closed and their roles changed.

They were told the closure was about mental welfare of students and families. To provide care to specific groups, the calls etc. It might still be on the gov site.

And look at that they still tried to do something.

They used common sense and existing policies, what the scientists were advising (I don’t mean the Mickie Mouse ones) . And some over paid people stood in front of the cameras like it was all down to them. Just like they did with the NHS. Took credit for keeping things going.

Many schools are still waiting for the promised equipment for ICT.

I think this is true, it's one of the issues with takeup of FSM, and means that the UFSM has helped a lot of families who wouldn't apply for FSM.

@Daffodil101
I've offered to deep clean my children’s school along with several other parents. We have offered to form a cleaning and disinfecting rota six days a week. There are eight of us. We haven’t received a reply.

You probably haven't been trained to deep clean properly, it's not just a case of giving a wipe round, plus schools are being told to not have visitors/extra adults in school. Your offer will cause more problems than it solves and is unrealistic.
