And no change before the 28th. What the hell is Nichola Sturgeon thinking?!

I'm in Scotland. I'm fed up of being in lockdown, but I don't think my boredom trumps other people's health. If it's deemed that we need to stay in lockdown for another 10 days for the infection/death rate to come down, then so be it.

TheLashKingOfScotland · 18/05/2020 15:19

magic ingredients in Irn Bru
I firmly believe in the magic ingredients in Irn Bru ... but I think we need to drink it in our own houses with our immediate family whilst watching Nicola's press conferences and nodding our heads in agreement Wink

Please don't tell me it's only pandemic-and-lockdown-deniers who are allowed to drink Irn Bru Sad

StoorieHoose · 18/05/2020 15:21

As long as its the original recipe Irn Bru none of yer reduced sugar crap

Might be the girders that are magic

I am also Scottish and live in Scotland and happy enough with most of the steps our government have taken so far. It is too early to come out of lock down.

Of course everyone will have different opinions on it depending on their own views, circumstances and levels of aversion to risk, they are allowed to. The government wont be able to make everyone happy, but I think they are doing a good job for the majority and can take the criticism from what is a small but vocal minority.

JudgeRindersMinder · 18/05/2020 15:23

@Ohdeariedear
She’s clear and direct and apart from the brief mis-step when she wouldn’t fire the woman who went to Elie, she’s done well.

I agree about that -it was a wee bit of an own goal, but I’ve always wondered if the woman was poorly advised by the Scot gov about how much she would be on the media’s radar and they’d be looking for a faux pas like she made

Likethebattle · 18/05/2020 15:24

That’s it, the reduced sugar Irn Bru has caused this....it never happened when we had the old stuff!!!

ThePianist38 · 18/05/2020 15:24

With 5.5 milions of people ,14k cases and 2000 deaths I can only think she’s thinking nothing more than independence , but she’ll fail again 😂😂

venusandmars · 18/05/2020 15:25

One of the strongest recommendations from countries which have done a better job than the UK in preventing the spread of the virus, is the whole test, track, isolate programme.

I'm annoyed that we didn't get on top of this much, much earlier, it WOULD have prevented some deaths, but I am glad that by the time the lockdown rules are eased in Scotland there should at least be a contact tracing system in place.

It's being trialled in 3 health board areas currently. It would be madness to ease lockdown before it is in place across the country.

Not a fan on NS, despise SNP but I think the decision is right for now.

Wtfdidwedo · 18/05/2020 15:26

I’m working class so don’t understand the whole ‘middle class working from home’ line that gets trotted out here. Well traditionally working class jobs don't involve working from home, they involve labouring, retail, hospitality etc. So you may be working class but a significant proportion of the actual working classes really can't work from home.

PrimalLass · 18/05/2020 15:26

Everywhere should still be in full lockdown. Until there's a vaccine and fewer deaths. One death is one too many.

Impossible. People die of things every day.

We should have a decent treatment regime for this long before a vaccine. It's already come on leaps and bounds.

I'm not sure NS has been terribly clever.

They (country leaders) are all following the same advice hence the reference from NS today to golf and fishing; but because schools work to a different timeline to England anyway, there's no need to rush to have an early June restart. So she can look like she's being cautious but the parameters are different.

Of course we are also sitting somewhat behind England in terms of peaking.

Hasn't changed my opinion on independence; still a no from me.

StoorieHoose · 18/05/2020 15:28

@ThePianist38 can you tell me why Wales and NI are following the same path - is it about independence for them too?

viewfromthecouch · 18/05/2020 15:30

I always want to ask people like certain posters who claim to be 'raging' about the unfairness about it all, and how the lockdown is completely 'unfair' to their children who want to hang out with their friends.

I get it. Totally. 3 school aged children not thrilled with the current situation and missing school and their friends.

But what I want them to genuinely answer is: if by releasing the restrictions and letting your child and everyone else's children head off and see their friends, return to school, you know that [pick a reasonable number based on what's been going on] 15 children will get seriously ill, and 4 will die. Will you be ok if one of those dead children is yours? Will you think it was all worth it because most didn't die and they got to see their friends sooner rather than later? Even if that dead child is yours?

The thing is, all those people raging, I don't think any of them think that seriously ill or dead child will be theirs.

TheStuffedPenguin · 18/05/2020 15:32

Nicola knows so much about the economy that she will have a plan to fix all of Scotland's woes from being closed down for so long . She's the woman who wants Scotland to go it alone after all.

ThePianist38 · 18/05/2020 15:32

StoorieHoose. Wales have eased the lockdown, you’re allowed to exercise more than once a day , the garden centres are open etc
In NI the same, the recycling and garden centres have reopened
NS thinks she’s something different but her stubbornness will be her downfall very soon.

StoorieHoose · 18/05/2020 15:33

Again it's England who has gone out of step - are you also criticising Wales and NI for closing down for so long?

StoorieHoose · 18/05/2020 15:35

But Pianist they are still stricter than England so how come they can deviate and Scotland can't from what England are doing when Scotland R is Higher?

Blueberryham · 18/05/2020 15:35

I think she is doing well and I am happy to be in lockdown longer if deaths will go down

begoniapot · 18/05/2020 15:38

I wonder who is funding the prolonged furloughed workers and propping up the Scottish economy?

StoorieHoose · 18/05/2020 15:40

Has the furlough stopped in England like? Has NS said anything about extending the furlough when it stops ?

No she hasn't

England can't afford to build HS2 and crossraik without Scottish taxpayers money so perhaps we could withhold that?

Jazzled · 18/05/2020 15:40

Scotland are allowed to excercise more than once a day also. All garden centres I know are open but delivering or collection by appointment.

We're following very similar plans to both Wales and NI. England has deviated further than any of the other 3.

I think NS has been pretty direct and is doing what is best for the country. Not a single one of my friends or family are unhappy with the decision she has made this far. There will always be those who aren't happy under either way but I've seen the majority of people supporting her decisions online and in RL.

SockYarn · 18/05/2020 15:40

Is it "Scots Bashing" if you were born in Scotland and live in Scotland or does it count as self-flagellation instead?

PrimalLass · 18/05/2020 15:41

I wonder who is funding the prolonged furloughed workers and propping up the Scottish economy?

The same furlough that's still running throughout the UK?

Jazzled · 18/05/2020 15:42

I wonder who is funding the prolonged furloughed workers and propping up the Scottish economy?

We don't have a different date y'know. It's the same everywhere Confused
