To think the north of England offers a worse quality of life than the South or Midlands?

I was thinking of moving to Lancashire, but having done some research online, it seems a lot of people have negative opinion of it. I'm now set on Warwickshire or Leicestershire. Does the north in general offer a worse quality of life than the Midlands? I know its cheaper up north but is it much worse up there?

Well it could be worse then, you could live on the right side but have to look at t’other side, at least you have the right view. I would happily donate if pp sets up a fundraising page to save you though.

This is Fleetwood. Awful place. Nothing to see here.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 17/05/2020 22:30

I think there must be two Miltons Keynes

My takeaway from this,Thread is how to pluralise Milton Keynes. Should I ever need to.

Blibbyblobby · 17/05/2020 22:32

I also think PP is a bit naieve about Northern culture being sooo much worse than London

I’m from the North, I’ve lived in Midlands and I now live in London. I am speaking from knowledge and experience. London is a different league to any other UK city. Edinburgh is the next and that only comes close during the fringe. It’s not about ballet or “old stuff”, although obviously there is that, it’s about 100s of tiny galleries, event spaces, live music venues, artist communities, pop up fashion markets, experimental night experiences and weird wtf things I can’t classify.

And I’m not saying none of this stuff happens outside London, what I’m saying is outside London it doesn’t happen in anything like the same volume, nor does it happen all the time.

I suggest you stay south of Watford. You'll likely go dizzy due to lack of oxygen if you venture further north anyway. It's really very grim. checks to see if local area is still safe, green, with lovely neighbors and great travel connections and is still in (gasp) The. North.

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 22:33

@donquixotedelamancha

I was discussing this a few months back with my fiance whose family are northern and has spent most of his life in the Midlands, he concluded we dont get anything because we dont ask - it isnt the done thing to complain or get angry about it here, and we dont have an Andy Burnham style leader to go all Braveheart on our behalf lol. He also thinks politicians dont want to develop the SW because it will ruin the peace and scenery of their lovely holiday homes that we can't afford to live in full time

Ah well we can hope cant we!

Tebay services ....ah bloody amazing!

Stick on your M&S voice, 'cause It's not just any services, it's TEBAY services... Grin

Me and Mum spotted a couple of right miserable bastards in there though when we were last there end of Feb. We were completely puzzled but thanks to this thread I can only assume that it was DDrickyDD and folks experiencing rain for the first time. Traumatic, would take quite the cheese board to fix that. Sad

ghostyslovesheets · 17/05/2020 22:34

I've lived in London, rural Kent, Munich, Up a mountain in Bavaria, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and the East Midlands

Trust me - I'm going back to Liverpool

AnneOfTeenFables · 17/05/2020 22:35

OP you're right. It's a cultural wasteland oop North. Awful, awful place and I don't know if you've heard but they even let them vote! It's ridiculous. The South

VimtoCordial · 17/05/2020 22:37

Who cares about Waitrose in the north, no one because we have Booths which makes Waitrose on a level with Lidl.

This is actually true.

ILikeDemFriesNICannotLie · 17/05/2020 22:40

@Chromalungma

Oh nooo, why the grin? What'd I miss? I've only got half an eye on the thread. Have your previously admitted that your cardboard box by the mill has already been eaten by a whippet? If so, I'm sorry. I heard that's happening a lot recently as we run out of chimney sweep kids to feed to them, they're going feral. I got a good recipe for whippet pie if it will cheer thee up Grin

DontStandSoClose · 17/05/2020 22:40

If you are southern don’t come, we have trouble understanding you. But honestly it’s grim, no running water and we have to manage on a camping stove, it’s still 1850 here.

Runbitchrun · 17/05/2020 22:41

I saw your post this morning on this same topic. I genuinely don’t understand what you’re hoping to get out of it. It’s obviously not as simple as ‘which is better’. What do you want out of where you live? Do you have children? Do you want culture, coast, bustling city? Or are you just a goady fucker?

VimtoCordial · 17/05/2020 22:41

Tebay services ....ah bloody amazing!

They are really something else, aren't they! I always save myself for them.

Elsa8 · 17/05/2020 22:42

It’s awful, don’t come! The affordable house prices and lovely countryside are just horrendous!

Billyeyelash · 17/05/2020 22:42

Aye, there's nowt to see up North love.
Nowt of culture.
Shacks for homes, an pigeon pie if lucky.

Heartlake · 17/05/2020 22:44

Booths. Now you're taking!

bluerad · 17/05/2020 22:46

My friend says living in Yorkshire is close to perfection - only coz its next to Lancashire I frequently remind her

Cain Lodge services (further north) is now run by the same people - definitely also worth a visit if you're heading up that way!

I knew the M62 house would get a mention

I doubt you'd be able to understand the language tbh.
Although you could employ a native interpreter.

You'll have to learn the art of balancing your heels on the cobbles when pissed as a fart.

Aw, decisions on whether you are a pasty or pie eater, may come into it. It' customary in some parts to have to have a clear favourite depending on which Rugby League team you follow.
Either way, your food will always include a pie crust, especially hot pot, much to wrongfully being stated as potato.
Then there's lobby, usually eaten on a Monday, traditionally made with corned beef, but now it's any left over meat and veg.

Schools are brilliant up here, there's one grammar school and last I heard parents didn't tutor. There are only a couple of private schools.
Secondary are mix and primary are all little church schools. Every town has several of these. It's pubs, schools and churches, with little communities.
I've lived everywhere, I'm not from here, but I never felt so welcome anywhere else.
Saying that we're moving to Wales, you can buy our house.
4 Bed Edwardian Semi, nice street, central area. 200k.
Lots of amenities nearby, Park, sports clubs, colleges, schools. All within walking distance.
