Woman selling Tesco shopping slots for £30

www.entertainmentdaily.co.uk/lifestyle/woman-admits-selling-supermarket-home-delivery-slots-to-the-elderly-and-vulnerable-for-30-each/

Profiting from the misery of others or supplying a service to fill a gap in the market?

I think this shows entrepreneurial thinking. She saw a gap in the market and moved to fill it. Its not against the law.

Not a particularly easy way to make money. She has to stay up to bid for all those slots, arrange payment and delivery and do the shopping for all those people. Obviously it wont last as when the lockdown has ended people will go back to physical shopping and there will be plenty of slots available again.

But it shows enterprise and she could graduate to providing a "personal shopper" service with a bit more thought and organization.

@Sandybval

Do you know what I'm just going to sit here and saying nothing in future, what is it with mumsnet everytime you try to be nice some some smart alec comes along and shoots you down ... go back to paying £30 a slot or not being able to get one, I'm seriously past caring

Doggodogington · 17/05/2020 08:40

Not sure you can get much lower than that really. Selling the slots to elderly and vulnerable and probably anyone who can cough up an extra £30 really. OP if you class that as entrepreneurial you also need to rethink your morals.

Gingernaut · 17/05/2020 08:50

This is not an 'entrepeneur', this is an exploitative bitch.

There was no 'gap in the market' until she created one by bidding for multiple slots, thereby denying them to other shoppers.

WobblingMyWigglyBits · 17/05/2020 09:01

Is that even legal
It's the supermarket that are offering the slots /service they are not hers to sell
She is gaining them dishonestly

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2020 09:01

@T1redmum1
Have you tried calling the supermarkets? They can add you to the vulnerable list at their discretion.

Or have you tried to add yourselves to the online governmental list?

Around my way Morrison’s and Asda seem to have slots. Tesco has been abysmal. So I’d give those a call. From what I’ve read on here, mumsnetters say Sainsbury’s have slots.

ScarletFever · 17/05/2020 09:02

I think @gingernaut sums it up nicely

This is not an 'entrepeneur', this is an exploitative bitch.

viewfromthecouch · 17/05/2020 09:02

Vile behaviour. Not dissimilar to the companies that jacked up the prices of Epi pens and other life saving medicines by %%%% in the states. But hey... if people will pay, huh?

Vile.

I hope she loses all her friends and customers in her 'real' job when this is over.

ScarletFever · 17/05/2020 09:02

Now unemployed, Lucas is making so much money from the scheme that she's planning on taking a tropical holiday with the proceeds once she's able to

Chloemol · 17/05/2020 09:03

She is profiteering, simple as that, it’s awful and if you think she’s right to do this so are you. Have you read the posts where those who are vulnerable and on the list couldn’t and in some cases still can’t get slots? Have you considered the mental anguish of those who then had to go to the shops?

Tesco should suspend her account immediately and all other shops should ban her

Vile behaviour and shame on you @biglouis for thinking it’s acceptable

NotaFreeloader · 17/05/2020 09:04

It’s like the online grocery equivalent of illegal subletting surely ?

Littlemeadow123 · 17/05/2020 09:18

It's disgusting. Thankfully, there are plenty of people helping the elderly and vulnerable get their shopping for FREE. And they don't expect to be paid for their efforts because they are KIND.

diddl · 17/05/2020 09:20

I think if she was organising a shop & delivery & maybe charging a fiver then that would be one thing.

zscaler · 17/05/2020 09:22

She’s not providing a bloody service. The service already exists. She’s just setting up a roadblock to that service and then charging people extortionate amounts of money to get around it.

Lots of people show entrepreneurial spirit but are still bad and exploitative people - drug dealers, human traffickers, pimps, profiteers. It’s not automatically something to admire.

chipsandgin · 17/05/2020 09:24

Nope. Selfish cunt with a dark ugly soul running a nasty little racket. This situation really does expose people for what they are & what she is fucking scum.

Most communities have huge numbers of people offering to shop and help out the elderly & vulnerable, right from the beginning of the lockdown there were community groups all over the country trying to spread the word & support people. Doing exactly what that bitch is profiteering from for free - because they’re kind, decent people with a sense of social responsibility. Not self interested exploitative cunts who see opportunity in suffering - which is certainly not ‘entrepreneurial’ or ‘enterprising’ it’s just shitty behaviour 🙄!

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 17/05/2020 09:24

@OP realise what a heartless bitch you are yet? (I’m assuming that because you’re the only one who would ever think this was ok to do that you’re the person doing this btw)

recycledteenager24 · 17/05/2020 09:25

are you the woman concerned op or just getting off on the froth of mners on here ? sad either way.

EvilPea · 17/05/2020 09:26

There’s a Special place in hell reserved for her.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/05/2020 09:28

What a vile individual.
I collect prescriptions for my elderly neighbours on a weekly basis, didn’t realise I could be ‘charging’ them for thus service...

Flashinggreen · 17/05/2020 09:32

She wouldn’t be my friend

Valkadin · 17/05/2020 09:36

Ugh absolutely horrible. I have managed to get four slots over the last seven weeks and spent many hours getting them. I had suspected covid, was very unwell so we couldn’t leave at all for two weeks. Fortunately my lovely friends dropped some food on my doorstep a couple of times.

Soddingsoda · 17/05/2020 09:37

Similar to when we lost water for a few days in our town. 5 minutes later a ‘family’ had gone around all the supermarkets/shops and bought all the water and was selling it for £5 bottle. With that business mindset I’m sure she could put it to better use and not be scum.

A couple of months ago I was staying up to the earlier hours trying to get a slot. And that was on top of providing 24/7 care than often started at 6am with part-time working from home too. I got to the point of a breakdown that I was begging to be sectioned but then I realised I just needed a good sleep and to be destressed that my family would be fed for the week. Karma will get her and I hope it was worth being the lowest of society.

Aridane · 17/05/2020 09:38

What a cunt

C8H10N4O2 · 17/05/2020 09:42

Tesco have introduced a measure to stop you changing your delivery address after booking so she won't be able to sell those now

I don't think you have ever been able to change address after booking (unless the new distribution hub has a slot free). I've always been able to keep multiple addresses on supermarket accounts and book to them and still am. Like many others I'm booking slots for less able friends and family.

What she is doing is not illegal, any more than reselling over priced PPE and cleaning materials is illegal. She may be breaking her T&C with Tesco.

France moved pretty quickly to control prices on critical items, but here since the loadsamoney variant of capitalism became the norm we tacitly encourage this kind of profiteering.

Weallhavevalidopinions · 17/05/2020 09:43

Wow how disgusting.

tamsintamsout · 17/05/2020 09:43

It is against the law to profiteer right now.

Either way she’s an utter cunt
