Woman selling Tesco shopping slots for £30

www.entertainmentdaily.co.uk/lifestyle/woman-admits-selling-supermarket-home-delivery-slots-to-the-elderly-and-vulnerable-for-30-each/

Profiting from the misery of others or supplying a service to fill a gap in the market?

I think this shows entrepreneurial thinking. She saw a gap in the market and moved to fill it. Its not against the law.

Not a particularly easy way to make money. She has to stay up to bid for all those slots, arrange payment and delivery and do the shopping for all those people. Obviously it wont last as when the lockdown has ended people will go back to physical shopping and there will be plenty of slots available again.

But it shows enterprise and she could graduate to providing a "personal shopper" service with a bit more thought and organization.

That’s a shitty thing to do.

EmbarrassedUser · 17/05/2020 06:28

That’s disgusting and she should be ashamed of herself 😮

Kraejka · 17/05/2020 06:53

Disgusting behaviour. Exploiting the vulnerable.
It's not even as if she needs the money. In the first part of the article she said she'd lost her job - extreme situations can drive people to extreme actions. But then she talks about saving it for a luxury holiday and buying prosecco etc. so that just made the whole thing even worse.
If she'd said she was so glad to have to the money as she could now feed her children I'd have had a little bit of sympathy for her - not much, but a little bit!

AvalancheKit · 17/05/2020 06:55

Isn’t this the same as ticket resellers harvesting all the concert and event tickets?

CeibaTree · 17/05/2020 07:01

Are you the 'entrepreneurial' woman OP? Can't think of another reason why you'd start a thread to sing the praises of this repulsive behaviour..

Dalamalama · 17/05/2020 07:05

I read this the other day and my first thought was, why the hell she went to the papers with this story, surely she knew it would be frowned upon?!

My mum is shielding and can have a weekly slot at Sainsbury's, if she doesn't need it she doesn't use it and she certainly wouldn't sell it. This woman is not clever.

KatherineJaneway · 17/05/2020 07:10

I think this shows entrepreneurial thinking

It shows humongous greed and a complete lack of humanity.

dentydown · 17/05/2020 07:12

I managed to get a slot for myself (and family) as I am trialing on line ordering. I could only get a premium time and it cost 7 pounds. It’s everything I cant get locally or difficult to carry. To sell slots like this is shameful.

Ohtherewearethen · 17/05/2020 07:13

Notice how she didn't pose for a photo. She obviously doesn't want her face to be recognised as she knows what she is doing is disgraceful. She's a filthy, scummy, rip-off merchant.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2020 07:18

I think this shows entrepreneurial thinking

That says a lot about you then.

Isleepinahedgefund · 17/05/2020 07:22

That's not entrepreneurial, it's exploitation. Taking something that has no value and giving it a value so you can make money from vulnerable, desperate people. Doesn't matter what her circumstances are, it doesn't make it ok!

T1redmum1 · 17/05/2020 07:31

My DD is on the vulnerable list, her paediatrician has told the whole family to shield for 3 months, but due to lack of coordination between hospital and GP we have not yet received the official shielding letter.

This means that we cannot access the priority slots at any supermarket. So I’m having to stay up until midnight most nights trying to get a slot, as they’re like gold dust around here.

That’s on top of providing constant 1-1 care for my DD and trying to work. So, no, I don’t admire this women. It’s people like her that are making an already tough time significantly worse for vulnerable families.

BlueBrian · 17/05/2020 07:36

Looks like a made up story, that the Sun has bought in from a freelance. Just look at the original author and you get the picture.

Gap in the market? If people like her weren't exploitative greedy fuckers maybe there wouldn't be such a big 'gap in the market'.

If I have people who need to do this I would do it for free. Ffs

Maybelatte · 17/05/2020 07:44

She’s exploited the elderly and vulnerable, there’s nothing entrepreneurial about it.

Sandybval · 17/05/2020 07:45

There is a website now which alerts you when slots appear across the different supermarkets, I am pretty sure the creator popped it online for free. That's helping others, if this story is true (doubtful) she is a disgusting creature.

DimplesToadfoot · 17/05/2020 07:49

@T1redmum1

Iately I've had more success booking slots with Asda at 3am turned, (just checked my confirmation email came through at 3.09) Fingers crossed, Good luck

ChasingRainbows19 · 17/05/2020 07:51

Wow that's not being a entrepreneur that's exploiting the vulnerable

PennyPincher64 · 17/05/2020 07:54

If you think this is a good idea there is something seriously worng with your moral compass. We should show compassion for others not treat their vulnerabilities as a money making opportunity.

Dalamalama · 17/05/2020 07:55

www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/11570693/woman-selling-supermarket-home-food-delivery-slots-saving-holiday/

There's a photo.

Ohtherewearethen · 17/05/2020 08:04

@Dalamalama - apologies, I was just going by the original article in the OP link.

middleager · 17/05/2020 08:06

Scum.

Yes 3am is a good time for Asda slots - if you can stay awake.

Are you coming back OP?

Sandybval · 17/05/2020 08:09

@DimplesToadfoot they are released at 10pm, the slots in the early hours are those who didn't check out in time. If you don't fancy staying up for ages then it's worth trying at 10 Smile

Roselilly36 · 17/05/2020 08:15

Incredibly selfish thing to do, why are their always people that just want to make a quick buck regardless of the circumstances.

LEELULUMPKIN · 17/05/2020 08:32

Some folk really don't have any shame do they? I bet she isn't the only one doing it either, just the only one thick enough to announce it.
