I would very curious to see if anyone would have voted differently, or if they had the chance to change their vote now would you?

If Labour were in power they would have made a massive song and dance about working closely with the opposition, then blamed them entirely, plus blamed years of austerity when things went shit shaped.

Only Italy, Spain and Belgium have more deaths per million than the UK in Europe. So, it's not only a few countries who've done better.

ITonyah · 18/05/2020 11:02

Helpfulrabbit what a horrible post.

Lweji · 18/05/2020 11:03

They didn’t because no one would have followed them.

Half the people on here still didn’t see Covid as an imminent or serious threat two weeks before lockdown

That's the job of the government. It's called leadership.

LemonTT · 18/05/2020 11:04

The devolved governments of Scotland and Wales and NI had the same or worse death rates in Care Homes. It is hard to pin the blame on Westminster for this. These countries are going to be high up the world lists as well. The comparisons being made from this data are just utter bollocks.

Do we say Germany is shit because of the comparison with Russia? That NZ failed because they are worse than Papua New Guinea.

itsaweddingone · 18/05/2020 11:06

@Helpfulrabbit

I'm really sorry about your FIL but do you really believe that had Labour been in power, he wouldn't have died of Covid?

The only mistakes people made in December were in China.

To say that no Tory voters have a heart is ridiculous....

@Lweji are you looking at factors such a population density? Travel hubs? Or even waiting for the overall death toll to pan out? FYI Italy and Spain had longer and harsher lockdowns and still haven't faired better...

itsaweddingone · 18/05/2020 11:08

@Lweji

Maybe you should run for PM? You seem to know it all.

Presumably you have the education and skills to do so, and could do a much better job?

ITonyah · 18/05/2020 11:09

If vitamin D is a factor then its not surprising we have lots of deaths.

KuckFnows · 18/05/2020 11:09

Itsaweddingone

My thoughts entirely

CayrolBaaaskin · 18/05/2020 11:09

@Helpfulrabbit - I’m sorry for your loss but that’s a pretty awful thing to say. People are people with hearts and families regardless of their political opinions. We are all of equal worth.

The tories didn’t cause Corona virus and it’s not even really possible to say that they would have done any better or worse than the alternative. I think some need to forget about our prejudices and be realistic.

Helpfulrabbit · 18/05/2020 11:10

@itsaweddingone yes I do. Jeremy was an honest and caring Political leader. If Labour was in charge we would have had a death rate similar to Germany and my Father in law would still be around. But we have the worst deaths in the world. I’m so upset with all of this and people’s stupidity for voting in this neo nazi right wing party and then claiming to still care about people and the NHS. I just don’t feel like I want to live anymore.

ITonyah · 18/05/2020 11:11

I'm sorry rabbit but you sound unhinged. Stop posting.

Helpfulrabbit · 18/05/2020 11:11

@carolbaskin I’m sorry I’m just still emotional about it. As far as I’m concerned their vote led to his death so I can’t feel bad for what I said om sorry

Helpfulrabbit · 18/05/2020 11:11

@ITonyah fine I will.

ITonyah · 18/05/2020 11:11

Well you should because it was a very nasty thing to say.

Rowantree2020 · 18/05/2020 11:12

@ITonyah I speak from personal experience of both private education and Oxbridge. I don’t think any of my college friends from similar backgrounds would dispute that we had an enormous head start over others. People shouldn’t think that an Oxbridge education always denotes great intelligence (especially Oxbridge 30 years ago). In many cases it just means that certain doors were opened that remained firmly closed to others (if indeed they even knew the doors existed!)

itsaweddingone · 18/05/2020 11:13

@Helpfulrabbit

You lost me at Jeremy Corbyn is honest.

We don't have the worse deaths in the world and we would not have been in the same position as Germany if Labour were in.

I'm trying to be kind as despite the nasty things you have waited on other people, you really don't sound OK.

countrylanes · 18/05/2020 11:13

I didn't vote conservative. I spoiled my vote as I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of the parties/leaders on offer. But lets face it, it was a choice between shit and shitter. And I definitely think Labour run by Corbyn and his mates would have been much worse.

Aryaneedle · 18/05/2020 11:14

There is a lot of emotive language being used on this thread. Partisan politics has a lot to answer for.

The sneering coming from both sides is why we are so divided. I think every time this country faces a major change or crisis there should be a statutory cross parliamentary approach so that we hear voices from all corners. We should choose if we want a cross party approach by vote. We elect and pay MP's and they should manage this together on our behalf. A parliamentary shouldn't be allowed to get away with just blustering ahead OR just standing there criticising.

BossAssBitch · 18/05/2020 11:17

Nope. Having said that, ABC

BossAssBitch · 18/05/2020 11:19

@Helpfulrabbit

eugh what a shitty post

Alsohuman · 18/05/2020 11:27

And the crisis in care homes would have been exactly the same as hospitals would have still refused to take them, or sent them back as they have been doing. That is the biggest scandal in this whole crisis afaic

Just an idea but maybe they could have been tested before being discharged into care homes? As it is, care homes are now a hotbed of infection and thousands of our most vulnerable people have died as a result.

ITonyah · 18/05/2020 11:30

They have been discharged into care homes with docs fully aware that they have covid 19.

Crosswordocelot · 18/05/2020 11:31

With all the infighting and division in the Conservative party, AND Brexit, the Labour party had a golden opportunity to provide a decent opposition, and target floating voters and remainers. Instead they had Jeremy corbin, who caused as much division in his own party.....and we were left with hobsons choice in Decembers elections.
IF Labour had had a different leader last year, or earlier, it is quite probable we could have had a Labour government.
Would they have done things differently? Yes, probably.
Would the NHS be in better shape? Probably not as they wouldnt have had time to make a difference.
Would they have prevented Corona virus killing anyone? No.
