Bar Staff

Just wondering why all the bar staff out there arn't doing more to help out in this lockdown?
There's apparently a pub in the next village doing lock-ins why isn't my local Wetherspoons doing this?
As key workers why are you refusing to do home deliveries of freshly pulled pints? Lots of us are working from home with young children and a nice IPA would go down a treat.
When I emailed my local at 3am i didn't get an immeadiate response, why are ALL the pubs in the country and all staff so lazy?
Why are bar staff so worried about being in a cramped room with a bunch of possible plague carriers, some bloke of the internet said if you breathe the other way you'll be fine. Beer is a human right.
What do scientists know, everybody knows that alcohol kills germs so what are you worrying about.
A pub up a mountain in Denmark never shut during this "pandemic" why don't you be more like them.
Finally you've had 8 weeks to plan re-opening with virtually no guidance and conflicting advice from the government, lots of industries that are totally different have managed it - WHY haven't you?

I get you OP. It might go over some head though. You forgot to put 'LIGHTHEARTED' in 40 foot flashing neon letters with glitter cannons and dancing girls round it.

iklboo · 16/05/2020 13:32

I am sure I read somewhere of a place doing cocktail deliveries.

Yes. One of the bars near us is doing it. Another couple are selling pitchers of beer in reusable cartons too.

iklboo · 16/05/2020 13:35

I'm sorry for your experience @Boulshired but it's fairly obvious the OP isn't being remotely serious.

WillAshton · 16/05/2020 13:36

Smile Daffodil

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 16/05/2020 13:43

Not everyone reads teachers threads and even though I didn't believe this was actually about pubs (though I am sure we all know an idiot who could write this seriously) it simply looked like another troll thread designed to get people to argue🤷🏻 We had way too many of them lataely

Sandybval · 16/05/2020 13:44

OMG Op so clever and hillarious

DrinkVeneer · 16/05/2020 13:45

V good op. 🤣

Although having been a barmaid for many years, I can confirm that they provide a key service in listening to drunken bullshit for hours at a time, repeated over many years. Relate should be making up the 20% furlough shortfall in anticipation of the resultant post-lockdown rush.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 16/05/2020 13:56

Brilliant

Daffodil

But, of course bar staff have the advantage of being able to use beer mats as ppe

Sargass0 · 16/05/2020 13:58

So why respond? At least you didn't manage to set the tone of the subsequent replies and lots of posters are actually responding with humour and now your post just looks stupid.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 13:59

Can someone tell me what the daffodil really means now?

Boulshired · 16/05/2020 14:00

But what is lighthearted about children education and the attainment gap and difference in mental health that is unavoidable with home schooling. Comparing bar staff and teachers.

Damnloginpopup · 16/05/2020 14:03

I thought that was really good. Thank you.

melissasummerfield · 16/05/2020 14:10

I get the ‘joke’ and i still think you are utterly pathetic OP Daffodil

titbumwillypoo · 16/05/2020 14:12

ProseccoBubbleFantasies and they also have vodka to wipe themselves with when a customer sneezes in their face. Grin

I want to go to that pub up a mountain in Denmark, it sounds lovely.

WillAshton · 16/05/2020 14:21

@melissasummerfield Do you also think Swift was 'utterly pathetic' for suggesting selling the poor children as food?

titbumwillypoo · 16/05/2020 14:21

look, no masks!

Teachers aren't doing themselves any favours. Create a scene because they're being bashed to death on here and then post ridiculous flowers on posts and now this.

Coming from people who say they don't even have time to wipe their arses because they've been that busy during this time they seem to have a lot of time to be petty online.

Sargass0 · 16/05/2020 14:26

Do you also think Swift was 'utterly pathetic' for suggesting selling the poor children as food?

Good idea they'd make great pork scratchings!

Jeffersona · 16/05/2020 14:26

The nation's dependence on alcohol is a terrible thing

titbumwillypoo · 16/05/2020 14:32

AvoidingRealHumans You know it's Saturday?

It doesn’t work as satire because pub/bar owners (my DH is one) is desperate to open and serve customers again. During the time the government has forced him to close he is planning how he will operate to make customers and staff safer. Customers do message him at all times asking when he’s going to re-open. He’s ok with that as he’s glad to have customers keen to come back. He would re-open tomorrow if allowed. His staff are also all ready to come off furlough and come back.

Sandybval · 16/05/2020 14:45

And bar staff will have to go back when they reopen or have no jobs. They will also stand to lose out as furlough winds down yet they cannot go into work or do work from home. Most here are breaking their backs to at least make something to keep their business afloat, so it's a pretty horrible comparison dressed up as a laugh. But OP will still whinge it's just because people don't like teachers or take it too seriously.

blubellsarebells · 16/05/2020 15:37

Its not really funny is it.
Pubs are not the same as schools.
Beer is not a human right, education is.
Pubs and restaurants are and have been planning how we can open up safely.
We will open and go back to work as soon as we are able to.
I cant sit people down, serve drinks or clear tables from 2m away, so no social distancing.
An awful lot of people that work in hospitality are not getting 80% because we rely on tips and they're not included, even though we pay tax on them.
An awful lot of us are actually working in temp jobs in retail manufacturing and others.
Lots of restaurants and pubs are open for takeaway.
If we dont go back to work we wont be getting paid.
