Bar Staff

Just wondering why all the bar staff out there arn't doing more to help out in this lockdown?
There's apparently a pub in the next village doing lock-ins why isn't my local Wetherspoons doing this?
As key workers why are you refusing to do home deliveries of freshly pulled pints? Lots of us are working from home with young children and a nice IPA would go down a treat.
When I emailed my local at 3am i didn't get an immeadiate response, why are ALL the pubs in the country and all staff so lazy?
Why are bar staff so worried about being in a cramped room with a bunch of possible plague carriers, some bloke of the internet said if you breathe the other way you'll be fine. Beer is a human right.
What do scientists know, everybody knows that alcohol kills germs so what are you worrying about.
A pub up a mountain in Denmark never shut during this "pandemic" why don't you be more like them.
Finally you've had 8 weeks to plan re-opening with virtually no guidance and conflicting advice from the government, lots of industries that are totally different have managed it - WHY haven't you?

I get it.
My husband is a chef and 80% of his wages were normally paid from tronc. So he is getting 80% of 20% of his normally wage.
However, we are eating like kings and I’ve got used to seeing him more than one evening a week. Luckily we brought a truck load of cellar stock from our local before lockdown.

Just because everyone doesn’t get a reference does not mean the reference doesn’t work. Not everyone finds the same jokes funny. That doesn’t mean the jokes don’t work. If you haven’t read the material or had the experience, you want get the satire - that is exactly how satire works.

I don't tend to read or comment on threads about teachers or schools @Finerumpus so didn't make the connection.

I can see that working, maybe... this one isn’t a cocktail type place, I sometimes order a coffee there, I’m pretty sure they have to go dust the stuff off, lol.

Also OP - why aren’t the pubs opening on zoom - giving drinkers the group experience that they are used to.
It’s difficult for the parentspartners if pub goers as they are now having to mix up their own cocktails, and possibly even provide pub talk - all of which is very much the remit of bar staff.

Because they're all lazy and are sitting around at home doing nothing, I'm doing 60% of their work for them! It's shameful. Why should I pour my own wine when I've got other things to do, the government should do something!!

Our local opened for a few hours a day to do takeaway pints, it was great. People were lined up with their empty milk bottles ready for filling Grin

I'm not a barmaid, how the hell am I supposed to know how to provide my DH with the listening ear and banter he requires for his development? This is going to have a lifelong impact on him, and it's an absolute travesty there isn't more being done to support him!

It’s the darts players I really feel for. Some had got as far as the national championships only to have the ranking in the league decided based on their previous performance.

You have picked a sector that are all desperate to get back to work ASAP so that they don't lose their jobs. Believe me, as soon as pubs, restaurants etc are allowed to open any staff that don't want to come back because its not "safe" will just be sacked.

I just do not find this appropriate, had this happened in my childhood with alcohol dependent parents due to poverty I survived by being at school or basically living with my best friends family during holidays. School was more the academic it was respite from my home. I have no answers but would not be surprised if children’s death rates through abuse or self harm will be much higher than Covid. These children would probably prefer their parents local to be open or the availability of their drug fixes than spending 24 hours lock-ins with their parents.

I'm getting close to having to cut my son's hair. The rant I go on about barbers when that happens will be epic. Plus it will be more than 60% of what they'd do as I couldn't give him 60% of a haircut!

For the record I can't wait to get back to my "pub" I miss all the customers, I miss the laughter and the ridiculous things they say. I'm more than likely being going into a different section of the pub, that smokey backroom where you don't know any of the regulars but the beer is similar. I'll slap a 50p on the pool table and do my best to play a good game. There are many things out of my control but i'll walk in there with a smile on my face and see what happens.
