to think that this shop are being foolish

I did my shopping at the farm shop this morning and bought a few bits and pieces which I'd ordered and paid for online and arranged a time to go and collect them, includng a children's baking pack which I thought would be a bit of fun for them. It all comes pre-packed in carrier bags or boxes which they leave by your car When I unpacked it there were some balloons in the bag, they weren't in a separate little bag but loose so heaven only knows where they have been or who has held them.

AIBU to think they are being foolish to give away balloons at this time? The DCs didn't see them and they've gone in the bin with the plastic bags. I know they meant well but really?

YABU - it isn't the best of ideas no
YANBU - it's just a bit of fun. Get a grip or have a Biscuit

I can’t imagine many people wanting to stick their lips round balloons that have been chucked into a bag loose!

NoClarification · 14/05/2020 14:48

What's wrong with balloons? And who are you worried might have held them? Probably the same hands that packed the baking stuff, at a guess...

bananaontoast1 · 14/05/2020 14:49

I do hope you’ve quarantined your shopping.

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/05/2020 14:49

You could wash them and blow them up with a puffer not by putting them in your mouth. Their chances of carrying Covid is precisely the same as the outside wrappers of all the baking bits.

NoClarification · 14/05/2020 14:49

Oh I see, the blowing bit. Just leave them to decontaminate then? In the unlikely event that they are covered in virus, they'd be safe by the weekend.

AvoidingRealHumans · 14/05/2020 15:08

More concerned that you've put plastic bags in the bin.

As for the balloons, they were being kind. You didn't want them so got rid, what is the issue?

BemidjiMinnesota · 14/05/2020 15:12

You did the vote the wrong way around. You were outraged and i think YABU, but you made me press YANBU, which could not be further from the truth!

3cats · 14/05/2020 15:17

I just couldn’t care about this. It’s a few balloons. They probably had them left over from something and didn’t want to waste them. You could have just left them on the windowsill for a few days.

Booboodisney · 14/05/2020 15:17

You could have just washed them with soapy water ?

altiara · 14/05/2020 15:19

I have a balloon pump so would’ve left them for a few days and then used the pump.

imsooverthisdrama · 14/05/2020 15:19

I'm not sure of the issue here ? Foolish!! It was a nice thing to do .
You could of just put them away for a couple of days .

vanillandhoney · 14/05/2020 15:19

I think you're massively over-thinking it. If you don't want to use them, then just leave them.

SecondStarFromTheRight · 14/05/2020 15:20

The voting is all wrong on this!

PlanDeRaccordement · 14/05/2020 15:21

Balloons are washable you know. It’s not like they dissolve in soapy water. I’d would have washed them and then blown them up.

NeutrinoWrangler · 14/05/2020 15:21

I'd just wash them and/or leave them somewhere (hidden from the children) until any unsavoury viruses, bacteria, etc. would have had a chance to die (or whatever it is that a virus does when it shuffles off this mortal coil).

NeutrinoWrangler · 14/05/2020 15:23

Also, I didn't vote because of the confusing, counter-intuitive instructions, but YABU.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 14/05/2020 15:26

Just wash them with some soap if you want to use them. I don't see what the problem is.

NoCaseToAnswer · 14/05/2020 15:27

You haven't said exactly what you think is foolish.

Selfsettling3 · 14/05/2020 15:28

I would have just quarantined them as I do with all over shopping

saraclara · 14/05/2020 15:33

Well you've got the voting instructions the wrong way round so I'll just say you're being unreasonable.

Nicknacky · 14/05/2020 15:35

What exactly is the issue here? People are seriously starting to lose the plot.

Candyflosscookie · 14/05/2020 15:38

@nicknacky presumably putting a bit of plastic (on which it is believed the virus can live for 48 hours to a few days dep what study you read) into your mouth (one of the easiest routes of transmission). It's not exactly hard to see why the OP may have concerns!

OP your voting is the wrong way round. I wouldn't have chucked them but I would have washed them before using.

Nicknacky · 14/05/2020 15:40

You don’t need to put a balloon in your mouth. You can pump it up.

But then, if people doesn’t have common sense then no, they shouldn’t have included them.

TheRealShatParp · 14/05/2020 15:44

I am also more concerned about you throwing plastic bags in the bin. I may have thought ‘I don’t fancy putting my mouth round that loose balloon’ but once that thought has gone that’s the end of the issue for me. I certainly wouldn’t be starting a thread about it. But it is lockdown, so you’re probably very bored.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 14/05/2020 15:59

You've messed up the voting so it's the wrong way round, so I haven't voted.
You ARE being unreasonable, massively over thinking and being a bit paranoid, sorry.
