to think that this shop are being foolish

I did my shopping at the farm shop this morning and bought a few bits and pieces which I'd ordered and paid for online and arranged a time to go and collect them, includng a children's baking pack which I thought would be a bit of fun for them. It all comes pre-packed in carrier bags or boxes which they leave by your car When I unpacked it there were some balloons in the bag, they weren't in a separate little bag but loose so heaven only knows where they have been or who has held them.

AIBU to think they are being foolish to give away balloons at this time? The DCs didn't see them and they've gone in the bin with the plastic bags. I know they meant well but really?

YABU - it isn't the best of ideas no
YANBU - it's just a bit of fun. Get a grip or have a Biscuit

Just dunk them in disinfectant and leave them to dry, let the DC have some fun.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 14/05/2020 16:05

Agree the voting is back to front. I think it's fairly unlikely that the balloons had been inflated previously, so yes, you are being a bit ridiculous.

JudyCoolibar · 14/05/2020 16:08

If the balloons are unused, it's very wasteful throwing them away. You just need to leave them a week to ensure they are clear of any virus.

Alsohuman · 14/05/2020 16:10

Get them out of the bin and wash them, OP.

BrutusMcDogface · 14/05/2020 16:19

What the actual fucking FUCK?! Get a grip!

Sparklingbrook · 14/05/2020 16:29

Wash them, blow them up.

NerfectPobody · 14/05/2020 16:31

Balloons should be outlawed - they're horrendous for the environment.

Sparklingbrook · 14/05/2020 16:33

I too have voted wrong. YANBU.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/05/2020 16:39

They'll have been touched by presumably the same chain of hands that picked, packaged, repackaged and then passed you your shopping OP. The farm shop is not any different to the supermarket in that respect and a lot of their produce is often bought in anyway, rather than its journey being from the field to their own shop. My PIL own one and my DP works on food retail. They use a lot of the same suppliers.

Don't use the balloonsif you don't want them, but surely there are bigger things to think about or be getting on with. If the DC had seen them what would it have mattered? You just tell them they aren't for them. Or you know...Give them a rinse and use a pump to blow them up...

Alb1 · 14/05/2020 16:43

Voting is the wrong way round as others have said. YABU, what harm is a balloon going to do? You realise they have touched all your shopping not just the balloons right? Even so if you don’t want them just get rid, it’s not a big deal, they haven't put your at any extra risk.

ShyTown · 14/05/2020 16:43

Wayyy over thinking it. Use a balloon pump if you have one. If you don’t then give them put them away for a couple of days and/or give them a wash. If you don’t want the balloons then throw them out and forget about it. I don’t see an issue here at all expect with your voting which is really quite confusing.

Lovestonap · 14/05/2020 16:49

I've had to vote yanbu because of the way round of the voting. In reality I think this is probably a parody covid pearl clutching thread. I don't think people like you exist in real life. So yabu because you don't exist.

Fallsballs · 14/05/2020 16:54

You sound like a bag of laughs OP

bagpusscatpuss · 14/05/2020 16:57

Leave them 3 days and they’ll be fine?’

Nannewnannew · 14/05/2020 16:59

I’m scratching my head to try and understand your problem with the balloons? 🤷🏼‍♀️

PixelatedLunchbox · 14/05/2020 17:05

Balloons are bloody dangerous for children anyway - so covid aside, not a good idea.

ShakespearesSisters · 14/05/2020 17:10

Don't bin all the plastic bags, quarantine them and reuse or recycle.

therobin · 14/05/2020 17:13

yeah, i binned the plastic bags as they are flimsy one use jobbies
not sure how i am supposed to reuse them other than as little bin bags
and no we won't blow up balloons when we have no idea where they have been

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/05/2020 17:20

I'm not sure what's happened with the voting but YABU. Someone's done something nice to cheer up the children (or, possibly, the adults) and this is a bad thing?

In the incredibly unlikely event that the balloons have got The Dread Virus on them, just leave them somewhere for a few days.

Alsohuman · 14/05/2020 17:57

won't blow up balloons when we have no idea where they have been

You’ve no idea where anything you buy has been. Presumably you’re still buying fresh fruit, do you know the provenance of every apple, grape and blueberry you consume? Salad veg?

iklboo · 14/05/2020 18:06

won't blow up balloons when we have no idea where they have been

They're not likely to have been anywhere much between the shop where they were bought and the farm shop you got them from.

Dontcoughnearme · 14/05/2020 18:09

Could have sprayed them and left them for 72 hours and then used them if you were very worried.

makewaymakeway · 14/05/2020 18:14

They were just trying to be nice!

Don't want them- don't use them.

Absolute non issue at all.

MitziK · 14/05/2020 18:21

I wouldn't use them because it's more pointless plastic in the environment. (Cat bum face at the thought optional).

Fuck all to do with infections.

Ponoka7 · 14/05/2020 18:34

I don't agree with them because as said, it's another piece of pointless plastic to just be thrown away.

I partly agree with you on why risk it. Were they blue? It seems to be an initiative to do with the NHS clap.
