efeslight · 13/05/2020 17:41

Someone mentioned Sybil with Sally Field, yes, very memorable.
Also the Elephant man was heart breaking.
A field in England haunts me still.
I hadn't realised that the main characters were starving until I read a review afterwards

Housewife2010 · 13/05/2020 17:49

Cinema Paradiso - such a fantastic film with gorgeous music and says souch about childhood, family, nostalgia and love of the cinema. When Toto returns to his hometown and sees it through his adult eyes it is so poignant.
Also the 1992 Of Mice & Men is excellent and is so profound about friendship, dreams and consequences.

notacooldad · 13/05/2020 17:50

Die Welle (The Wave)
Based on a social experiment. It's dead easy to see how people can be manipulated and turn against others.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 13/05/2020 17:50

Agree with so many previously mentioned.
My contribution would be The Last King of Scotland - that was grim.

WhenPushComesToShove · 13/05/2020 17:51

City of Joy with Patrick Swayze - brilliant film

MashedPotatoBrainz · 13/05/2020 17:52

On The Beach (2000)

Post nuclear war film where pretty much nothing happens apart from clinging to the last ray of hope, until it dies. We watched it with friends and everyone sat in silence after it finished, then went home and hugged their kids.

A TV film called Murder in Mississippi (1990) based on the true story of 3 civil rights activists in 1960s America. I watched it when i was a young teen and i can still remember the heartbreaking ending.

Ive just seen it's on YouTube m.youtube.com/watch?v=-k5YTDlh7Wo

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2020 18:06

Mashed that’s my favourite book. Will watch it

AuroraBore · 13/05/2020 18:15

Do people (including OP) actually know what "profound" means?

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2020 18:17

Aurora what would you add?

Profound is quite strong for a film. Not many around

itbemay1 · 13/05/2020 18:18

The eye in the sky
The impossible
