OP posts:

@totallyyesno Oh no, not The Tree of Life! It’s one is the worst films I’ve ever seen (and I was a Malick fan up until then).

AuroraBore · 13/05/2020 18:23

Marsha I would have to think hard about that. As you say, not many films actually qualify.
Cinema Paradiso (for example) is one of my favourite films and very moving, but I didn't gain any deep insight from it.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 13/05/2020 18:31

Do people (including OP) actually know what "profound" means?

Yes. Do you?

BluntAndToThePoint · 13/05/2020 18:31

The Stoning of Soraya M.

Technonan · 13/05/2020 18:38

Kanal
Son of Saul.
Neither of them are an easy watch, but they shook me to the core.

Horehound · 13/05/2020 18:42

@Moondust001 my dad absolutely loves Kpax!
He goes round the house and just randomly says "Kpax" every now and then haha

I've not seen it but maybe I will now I know someone else on earth likes it hehe

BillywigSting · 13/05/2020 18:42

Most of the above but also pan's labyrinth.

Is it a fairy tale with a happy ending or is it one little girls escapist fantasy world built to cope with the horror of living under Franco's fascist government with a basically evil stepfather, a sick mother and a tragic ending?

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/05/2020 18:48

Layla M.

Pintsizedblondie197 · 13/05/2020 18:48

Jojo Rabbit. There's one scene that utterly broke me because it was so unexpected but the way it was filmed was so impactful. I've had very few films have that effect on me.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

lockdowncockdown · 13/05/2020 18:56

Miss you already and my sisters keeper.

Ughmaybenot · 13/05/2020 18:57

Schindlers List - I truly feel like this is a film that everyone should watch at least once in their lives
Hotel Rwanda - Again, a must see imo. Heartbreaking, it stuck in my head for weeks

Bookridden · 13/05/2020 18:59

ArriettyJones · 13/05/2020 19:15

Yes, I’m having the same problem.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 13/05/2020 19:18

Pride
The Magdalene Sisters
Hidden Figures
Very Annie Mary
Beaches

Very Annie Mary is a comedy, but it's also full of sadness and dreams, and I love it.

TheCanterburyWhales · 13/05/2020 19:19

The Killing Fields
Salvador
Platoon

Me and my uni friends would alternate John Hughes and utter traumatic horror like the above. Horror that everybody should be made to watch.

bbyj2019 · 13/05/2020 19:19

Seven pounds with will smith and five fingers (can’t remember who’s in it but a realllllly gritty film)
