Yes Lincolnfield Greenbook so underrated but it rightfully won the Oscar.

MrsL2016 · 14/05/2020 19:04

This thread is great and I agree with so many of these. Although the first film that came to my mind, and I don't think anyone else has mentioned it, is We Need to Talk About Kevin.

I watched it once and I will never watch it again. I found it deeply disturbing.

Khadernawazkhan · 14/05/2020 19:13

Romero
First Blood
The Deer Hunter
A Man for all Seasons

And many more....

Goodmum1234 · 14/05/2020 19:15

Untouchables. French subtitles. Mind blowingly good

Pinkarsedfly · 14/05/2020 19:25
Blush
BMW6 · 14/05/2020 19:25

12 Angry Men
Schindlers List
Hobsons Choice
It's a Wonderful Life

Guylan · 14/05/2020 19:26

I remembered two more, Call me By Your Name and Painted Veil.

Guylan · 14/05/2020 19:27

I am furiously jotting down the names of some of these films

Kravarza · 14/05/2020 19:31

A Beautiful Mind.
Auschwitz.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Melancholia.
Bicycle Thieves (1948).
Come Home Kathy.

Guylan · 14/05/2020 19:33

I noticed someone mentioned the NZ film Once We Were Warriors, I had forgotten about that film, exceptionally good.

totallyyesno · 14/05/2020 19:34

I love The Painted Veil. Melancholia I found really upsetting.

pinksunday · 14/05/2020 19:35

A Star is Born. I've sobbed my eyes out every time I've watched it. The love between them was so strong. It actually traumatised me how heart breaking it was.

totallyyesno · 14/05/2020 19:37

I would also say NOT The Lobster. I had a completely bizarre panic attack while watching that film and I didn't know who I was. I totally blame the weirdness of that film.

darrenlacey · 14/05/2020 19:41

Malèna - watched it as a teenager and never forgot that film.

All is Lost - burst into tears when the credits rolled. Excellent acting from Robert Redford.

DressesWithPocketsRockMyWorld · 14/05/2020 19:42

A Monster Calls.

It is the truest film I have ever seen. Absolutely captures what living with someone with terminal cancer is like. When he finally reveals what his nightmare is. sob

ArriettyJones · 14/05/2020 19:42

@totallyyesno I’ve been avoiding it anyway on the basis of DS’s and his GF’s description, but that sounds horrific!

Phoebesgift · 14/05/2020 19:49

Life is Beautiful

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 14/05/2020 19:58

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - sobbed at that
Shawshank Redemption
Shindlers List

FudgeBrownie2019 · 14/05/2020 19:59

Its a Wonderful Life. I remember watching it when I was very young in foster care; it has always been the most profound film I've ever watched, showing me there was good in the world.

It's very lowbrow but I will love it til I'm old and grey.

Bumparound · 14/05/2020 20:00

The Wind that Shakes the Barley - set during the Irish war of Independence and the Civil War. Can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned yet but agree with lots of the other films listed too! Love Ken Loach films though - he doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths.

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 14/05/2020 20:02

Pursuit of Happyness - I cried practically all the way through that one.

lonelyguy · 14/05/2020 20:02

Diary of Anne Frank
Madame X
Elephant man
Old boy - Japanese version
Great Expectations

deepflatflyer · 14/05/2020 20:08

Off to hunt some of these down - thank you!

darktriad · 14/05/2020 20:16

Ivans xtc, not many films move me, but I found this one heartbreaking

shirleyschmidt · 14/05/2020 20:21

Shawshank Redemption
Twelve Angry Men
Legends of the Fall - the ending scene in particular made me absolutely sob
It's 'lightweight' but I find the Greatest Showman very moving too
