My vagina stinks

I can't live with it anymore, it smells horrible even 2 minutes after showering. I don't use soap down there and I don't have an STI. I have been treated for thrush and no change.

It's worse in the hot weather but I'm feeling self conscious all the time. I can smell it when I'm sitting down on the sofa. People say it's normal to have an odour but when does it become abnormal?

I can't even describe the smell - it isn't fishy but it's unpleasant Sad

@ducksback I know. I've been saying that on this thread.

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 12/05/2020 12:16

@hamsterchump I agree with you. The back of the ear will definitely start minging after a while of not being cleaned. If you want to know, rub your finger through it or smell the stem/arms of your glasses.

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 12/05/2020 12:18

@ducksback please read all my posts here carefully if you want to quote me properly. You've taken a bit of what I've written and ran with it.Confused

DrinkVeneer · 12/05/2020 12:22

I worked with a guy years ago who got some kind of unpleasant skin condition due to not washing behind his ears.

rosiepony · 12/05/2020 12:27

Do the people who don’t clean their vulva receive oral sex?

I’m shocked by this thread. Vulval smegma is the equvailent of cock cheese and needs to be cleaned with a gentle soap or equivalent.

Moonmelodies · 12/05/2020 12:29

Maybe that's how it's getting cleaned, rosie

happyandsingle · 12/05/2020 12:35

The op has disappeared. Probably wanking over all of the replies.

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 12/05/2020 12:35

Agog at this thread!! When people say 'the vagina is self-cleaning' they mean the HOLE. They mean you shouldn't be sticking soapy fingers up there. The surrounding area is not, Jesus Christ! It's folds of skin, it's one of the most sweaty places there is, water is not going to cut it!

The first thing the doctor asks you when you go in about problems down there is it you're washing properly/regularly.

Remember that guy who got slated on that sex program, something about his foreskin getting stuck? Turned out to be a build up of gunk because he didn't realise he needed to pull back his foreskin and wash there Envy

This thread reminds me very much of that situation.

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 12/05/2020 12:37

I also don't bother fiddling around trying to find the right word for body parts. Is that my arse? Or is it my elbow? Away with such trivial technicalities.

😂

rosiepony · 12/05/2020 12:38

@Moonmelodies Envy not envy

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 12/05/2020 12:44

Here is my advice Grin

rosiepony · 12/05/2020 12:49

Great diagram. I’ll admit to not knowing I had a vestibule down there!

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 12/05/2020 12:50

Haha me neither. My inner Vestibule. Wink

It's comments like this which put women off from talking openly leading to ignorance over basic female hygiene as this thread has shown exists.

zingally · 12/05/2020 12:55

I haven't read through the whole 12 pages, so forgive me if this has been said:

(If not BV)

  • Drink more water.
  • Are you wiping/drying completely after weeing? Could you use a babywipe afterwards, just to freshen up?
  • Change your knickers after every shower, even if more than once a day.
  • Go up a size in knickers. Things need space to breathe down there.

Does that matter? I don't give a shiny shit who wanks to what. If this thread has helped some women who have had the same issue as the OP then that can only be a good thing 👍

timewarp6 · 12/05/2020 13:07

I do not wash inside at all and only use water around that area as I was told soap shouldn't be used around the area at all. The smell is 100% from vagina not the vulva. Thank you to people who suggested BV, I have bought some of the internal gel today so fingers crossed it works ...

ClientQ · 12/05/2020 13:10

@ducksback even simple or Sanex gives me thrush. I wash the entire outside (so if you were standing legs closed where hair would grow) but nothing else except with water

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 12/05/2020 13:12

FROM THE NHS WEBSITE

My vagina stinks
rosiepony · 12/05/2020 13:13

Good luck OP. Just to let you know, I was once dating a doctor (well sureon but whatever) when I got BV. I said I’d get some over the counter treatment and he said that stuff doesn’t work. He prescribed me some antibiotics that I took over 3 days. They were the ones that you absolutely couldn’t drink on though so prob best to start them on a Monday rather than Friday.

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 12/05/2020 13:13

Make sure you click on the image to enlarge it and read the whole thing. You should wash your vulva (not vagina) with unperfumed soap.

SerenDippitty · 12/05/2020 13:21

From the Royal College of Gynaecologists published in the Guardian:

^When it comes to putting anything near the vulva, as natural as possible is best. This means no soaps, shower gels or feminine washes – essentially any product that foams, because they can dry the skin, get rid of the good bacteria and increase the likelihood of developing bacterial vaginosis (BV) and thrush.
The vagina itself is self-cleaning, so all you need to do is clean the vulva with water or an emollient. You can also apply an emulsifying ointment or olive or coconut oil – not inside – to act as a moisturiser. When we wash, anything we’re using elsewhere on the body such as shower gel and shampoo tends to run down between the legs, so having an oil over the vagina reduces the risk of an allergic reaction or irritation. Just rinse it off at the end. Douching is an absolute no-no as it removes lactobacilli, which are there to prevent infections.
And absolutely never steam.^

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 12/05/2020 13:30

Over the counter medicine for BV is mild. You'll need prescription medicine. It has to work from the inside at this point.

VisionQuest · 12/05/2020 13:49

OP if the gel doesn't work (which I suspect it won't) please get anti biotics from your doctor

ducksback · 12/05/2020 13:51

That advice is rubbish!

Also this commnent made me heave Moon...Maybe that's how it's getting cleaned, rosie
