Lockdown sucks, what’s the best CF stories you’ve read?

OP posts:

@truthisalie

Not only did they deprive the hard working waitresses of their tip

That's a bit ridiculous. The waitresses are paid by their employer.

Yes, we're not in the US. Tips are optional for good service.
BashfulClam · 27/01/2021 12:09

Mil is a right cheeky fucker and always out for anything she can get. DH has put in great boundaries recently. She had her vaccination date and capped yesterday with ‘I suppose I’ll need to get a taxi then sigh!’ (it’s a bit out of the way from the bus route). DH just said‘yes that’s the best thing...after hinting and hinting she then said ‘ I suppose you’ll be working!’ Not asking outright but trying to get him to offer. He is working so tough and he needs annual leave for his own medical appointments.

She is a classic for wanting to go to cafes as she’s ‘desperate for a tea’ but she’ll just stand and look stupid when it’s time to pay so DH ends up footing the bill. It is just tea and a cake or a breakfast but it’s always her that wants to go. She used to ask him to drive to the chippy and pick her up a fish supper and she either wait in the car or at home and forget to pay until DH started driving her there and saying ‘ok mum I’ll wait here you go and get what you want!’

She doesn’t seem to realise we have a mortgage and the car doesn’t run on thin air, she is comfortable and owns her house outright! It’s just the manipulation that drives me mad with her.

Yeah, in fact told my boss I had to now leave early to take my meds. He had no choice but to let me go.

@BashfulClam
Absolutely!![/quote]
I wonder if he fired her? It’s a bit extreme but he lost you for the afternoon, someone had to clean up the avocado and bacon and she stole, theft is often instant dismissal albeit usually from the company but obviously labelled medicated sandwiches is a bit of a silly thing to take.

BashfulClam · 27/01/2021 12:16

I can’t stand a thief, particularly ones who steal from workmates. It happens regularly in places I’ve worked that lynched have been stolen. In one place is was a weekly occurrence. One workmate had brought his lunch in as he was too skint to buy lunch and ended up going hungry when someone took his lunch. His e-nail was fairly good ‘I’m sure it was an error and if you’d like to fine apologise just follow the sound of a rumbling stomach!’

moanieleminx · 27/01/2021 12:22

@HyacynthBucket

I lived in a small cul de sac.My neighbour two doors down was a lovely old lady who died. My next door neighbour, who lived between me and the old lady, had always been quite unfriendly all round. As was the custom in the street if someone died, I went round the houses asking if people would like to sign a card, and most people gave money for flowers at the funeral. The next door neighbour said she was not interested in the flowers. I bought them and they were sent to the funeral on behalf of the neighbours. Later the old lady's daughter told me she had thanked next door neighbour for the flowers and given her a card to thank everyone. We never saw the card, and it turned out neighbour took all the credit for organizing the flowers, even though she was the only one not to contribute. I was too shocked to say anything then, and I never got another chance to enlighten the daughter and her family
Think about this for a moment. What was your neighbour supposed to do - knock on each door to show them the card? And, whatever her reasons for not contributing (which might have been that she was hard up) she could hardly say to the old lady's grieving daughter, when thanked for the flowers 'Oh, those were nothing to do with me.'

You take all the kindness out of the gesture to the old neighbour's family when you brand another person as a CF for something like this.

Pretty common wherever there is a shared fridge, uni halls, houseshares, etc. I suppose the lunch at work thing is because the person has forgotten their own sandwiches and is too lazy to go to the shop or something.
AintPageantMaterial · 27/01/2021 13:35

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/01/2021 13:51

But as I said above, it doesnt matter if you agree with tipping or not, these people stole money. It was given with the intention of it going to the waitress and they stole it.

IrmaFayLear · 27/01/2021 14:02

In the mad universe we live in, you can imagine the avocado & bacon thief suing @HeidiHoNeighbour ‘s company for negligence at work and receiving compensation...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/01/2021 14:15

"Yes, we're not in the US"

I'm not sure how that makes any difference, @Gwenhwyfar - if I leave a tip for my waiter or waitress, it's my gift to them as appreciation for their good service - so why would it be OK for someone else to steal it?

Overwhelmed245 · 27/01/2021 14:59

I once booked a table in a night club for a friends birthday and paid for a drinks package costing 250 pounds we all agreed that it would be cheaper with way more alcohol than we would be able to finish and a lot cheaper than a normal night out. I had said to everyone I’m happy to pay for half the package for my friends birthday and they could all pay 20 towards the other half. We all got ready at my house where I had done some dinner and purchased a few pre drinks. Cf turns up with a friend I didn’t mind as we had so many drinks booked the more the merrier and demands we pre drink for longer and cancled the taxi to a later time I did try and say something but she wouldn’t listen. We then finally left and she insisted on going for pre drinks at this cocktail bar even though we had all these drinks I had paid for waiting for us. We finally get to the club late and We have a great night but can’t finish all the drinks we where left with two bottles of spirits left and some mixers and half a bottle of champagne. I decided to take the spirits home with me. Most girls paid me the next day there share of 20 quid except cf and her friend they never paid me even after a few reminders and they took the spirits with them home. I had planned too keep them for the following month so we could all drink them before other girls birthday in our group. Turns out she also never paid my friend back for her taxi share either

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/01/2021 15:21

Did she ever explain herself???

Yes, she was very forthcoming - did quickly come out with it and spill the beans Grin

cleanasawhistle · 27/01/2021 15:23

My toxic older sister was having one of her kids christened.
A sit down meal afterwards about 6 tables set out in a semi circle.
The christening cake was sliced up and put on my sisters table.
She picked up the plate and walked around eat table offering cake and chatting.
On my table was my OH and son,my sister and her kids OH and our mum......older sister walked right past our table.
This is classic her,ignores us in public,tries to belittle us if she has an audience but one to one crawls all over you.
Have gone NC with her now after giving he a piece of my mind,of course it was all lies and she played the victim

IrmaFayLear · 27/01/2021 15:24

Ds is reading Martin Amis’s autobiography and he was just telling me about the great description of people who have “forgotten” to bring their wallet on a night out - flapping their arms and furiously patting their pockets as if they’re trying to open a parachute. Everyone knows it’s an act, especially if it happens every time you go out.

InTheDrunkTank · 27/01/2021 15:26

@LApprentiSorcier

Errr she wasn't saying the daughter was a CF she was saying the neighbour who took credit was a CF. If someone thanked me for flowers I hadn't even contributed to I would have told them who actually arranged (and paid) for the flowers rather than taking credit myself.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/01/2021 15:30

You have to be not just nasty and selfish, but also very stupid indeed to steal food that's labelled as having been medicated - clearly for a person who needs that specific medication.

Does anybody remember the story (I think it was reported outside of MN but discussed and linked to on here) about the person who liked extremely spicy food? She made her own lunch to her own (very hot) taste, clearly labelled it with her own name, put it in the fridge and then somebody stole it, ate it and was violently ill.

She was blamed and threatened with a disciplinary 'for maliciously trying to poison a colleague' (it was in no way poison - just very strong normal food). I think the thief's partner worked in HR and she tried to abuse her position by ganging up with him to victimise the victim - but they both rightly got into a great deal of trouble in the end. Good!!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/01/2021 15:37

Completely beside the point, but I've never been a fan of Martin Amis ever since he was given an honourary degree at a family member's graduation ceremony I was at. He was one of three: the other two (IMHO much more esteemed in their fields than he) came on before him and sincerely said how genuinely honoured they felt to have been given it by such an august institution; Amis came on after them and went on about how honoured the university should feel that HE had agreed to accept it!!

IrmaFayLear · 27/01/2021 15:58

Gotta love Martin Amis ! My claim to fame is that I sat next to him on a train and he was picking his nose Envy

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/01/2021 16:04

‘I suppose I’ll need to get a taxi then sigh!’ ... ‘I suppose you’ll be working!’

My ex, late MIL was exactly the same. ExH was working on supply then, and like a fool organised his entire diary around the endless demands of a woman who could, but wouldn't, do anything for herself. She'd open her diary and mention just one "need", and once that was agreed would move onto the next date - and the next - and the next

I once took her to an appointment myself because ExH had been called out, but he got home early and rang me. Her disgusted face was a picture as she spat "Was he there all the time then??"
I did think of explaing but just left her to stew

Oh, and on the one occasion when neither of us could go he organised a taxi for her. This wasn't acceptable, and on arriving at her appointment she threw a "poor old lady" tantrum which even the staff saw straight through

Yes, I know it was the neighbour. That's why I said What was your neighbour supposed to do - knock on each door to show them the card? And, whatever her reasons for not contributing (which might have been that she was hard up) she could hardly say to the old lady's grieving daughter, when thanked for the flowers 'Oh, those were nothing to do with me.'

I wouldn't hurt someone's feelings by telling them I hadn't contributed to their flowers where the flowers were in honour of a deceased relative.

I thought the criticism wasn't of people stealing it, but of people choosing not to tip. There must have been an out of context quote. Of course, it's not right to steal it. I have seen people taking their change out of money allocated for tip and that's more of a grey area because they're entitled to their change of course.

I think you can generally assume what the norms are. This is the case for most threads. If the poster was in the US they should have pointed out that depriving the waiter of the tip was cruel and unusual because it's part of the wages over there.
