The new slogan - Stay Alert....

Alert to what? Is the virus going to break into our homes?
Listen out for someone coughing then run a mile from them.

What on earth does Stay alert actually mean?

At least Stay home made sense stay alert means nothing at all or AIBU?

To me it is continuing to be mindful of the virus. Assess situations for risk and remove yourself and your family from high risk situations if they occur ie walking in a nice area and its far busier than you expected so go somewhere else. Rubbish example but you get the idea.

B0bbin · 10/05/2020 11:44

Vague enough so he can blame the general public for spreading the virus when he sends everyone bavk to work to save the economy...

1forsorrow · 10/05/2020 11:44

I thought “ Stay Home” was crystal clear too It wasn't though was it. I mean it was Stay at Home unless you need to do some essential shopping, or your daily exercise, or you are a key worker and need to go to work, or you have a medical need to be out. Not very catchy though and they'd need bigger lecterns or the print would be so small you wouldn't be able to read it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 11:45

A quick google. Lots of stay alert, be a lert...

They said ‘Stay Home’ then told us the reasons you could leave the house. I didn’t think it was difficult to understand.

KnobwithaK · 10/05/2020 11:47

Meaningless slogan > three word platitude > invoke heroism

(Won't pretend it's mine.. saw it on FB)

RedskyAtnight · 10/05/2020 11:48

"Stay alert" isn't a great slogan for the many people who are already worried and anxious. At least up till now, they've felt a modicum of safety when they've been in their own homes. "Staying alert" all the time is not good for anyone's mental health.

eveoha · 10/05/2020 11:48

Of course it means don’t be complacent - but most deliberately uneducated people won’t understand that word - read Ivan Illyich 😡

Stopmenow123 · 10/05/2020 11:49

It's hilarious how many people are claiming to not understand because it fits their agenda not to but would usually have no problem understanding the phrase.

Stay alert while walking alone at night.
Stay alert while driving.
Stay alert while crossing the road.
Stay alert for burglars.

But what does it meeeeeeaaaan? Does it mean I leave my front door unlocked? Do I look out of the side window all the time while driving? Or close my eyes? Do I look just one way or no ways when crossing the road? Do I walk around alone at night with headphones in and reading a book? Help meeeee understand! Unless you tell me explicitly I just won't know Hmm

corythatwas · 10/05/2020 11:49

It worries me how so many on here need direct orders in order to function.

oh yeah because once employers have been given signals they can force their staff back into the workplace, the employee has total control over how they "function"- all their own fault if they catch something on the commute to work or while serving the customer

kirinm · 10/05/2020 11:49

Changing the "stay at home" bit will give people the nod to be out of the house all the time. There's no real need to "stay alert" if you're at home all the time. You only need to be "alert (to an invisible virus...)" if you're outside, surely?

Bubblebu · 10/05/2020 11:49

it means if your are the Prime Minister you can "survive" Covid19.
If you are anyone else you can effin get back to work when we tell you to for tax purposes...

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 11:49

Staying alert" all the time is not good for anyone's mental health.

Especially when you can't see the threat.

Bubblebu · 10/05/2020 11:51

And remember

if you voted right wing you are more likely to have ignored the risk of Covid19 from the start

but if you voted left wing you are more likely to have complied.

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 11:53

If you don’t understand it, then you aren’t very bright

Yes, that's a better slogan KingJarvis - maybe you should suggest it to the Gov?

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 10/05/2020 11:54

Sky asked them this morning. Communities Secretary didn’t seem to be able to define it

RaininSummer · 10/05/2020 11:54

It's very hard to legislate for stupid people and sadly there are a lot of them.

Dodgytrousers · 10/05/2020 11:54

Bobbin

Don't talk bollocks. The arrogant many have been out in force this weekend. As usual when Infection rates spike it'll be people like you blaming Boris.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 10/05/2020 11:55

It means that the Westminster government has just added one more turd to the pile of shit that has been their response to this pandemic.

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 11:57

Sky asked them this morning. Communities Secretary didn’t seem to be able to define it

But, it's only stupid people who find it difficult isn't it? So that must mean..

KingJarvis · 10/05/2020 11:57

Typical that it’s the left who don’t seem to understand it. Wonder why that is

AravisTarkheena · 10/05/2020 11:57

To me it really contradicts the fact that we are supposedly still on lockdown for 2 and a half more weeks. Stay Alert definitely sounds like - we’re not in lockdown anymore so carry on but, you know, avoid people who look like the don’t wash their hands.

PigletJohn · 10/05/2020 11:59

vote for johnson, and meaningless slogans!

CrowCat · 10/05/2020 11:59

In case the virus has mutated and can now swoop out of nowhere and mug you?

I'd like to think it means restrictions are going to be slowly lifted but you still need to keep your wits about you out in public.

FliesandPies · 10/05/2020 11:59

Yeah he's a big lefty, that Communities Secretary KingJarvis - I mean, the clue's in the name innit? Communities Secretary. Commie bastard!
