People who aren’t quite getting it...

I wouldn’t comment IRL and am not part of the Stasi post on FB with “reported to police” written in capitals which I am quietly finding quite amusing.

But a few people are posting are posting stuff on SM with “and before you judge me XYZ”

Friend who posted last weekend “having a bonfire this afternoon so just letting all my neighbours on here no so you can shut your windows” erm - you aren’t supposed to be having bonfires because of the risk of added pressure on the emergency services if something goes wrong, everyone is cooped up inside and it’s foul and some of those people might be shielding because of impaired lung capacity.

Photos of children on a bouncy castle in the back yard, “before you judge me there was no contact and the guy cleaned it all” yes but the point is it’s not exactly an essential fucking journey is it?!

And the people moaning about traffic on the roads - erm you were there too but your reason is “justified” because you are a key worker? “The park/beach was so crowded” so I came home - BUT YOU WERE THERE TOO!!!!

The virus isn't going anywhere. We'll have to learn to live with it or shut ourselves up, potentially for years, until there is a vaccine. The lockdown was never to eliminate the virus, people will continue to catch it and yes, some will die, but to avoid overwhelming the healthcare system, that's all, not to avoid all deaths from it.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 14:59

You are way too hung up on semantics

That’s rich coming from someone who made a clear statement in their OP, then insisted it didn’t mean what it said. Words matter.

pigsDOfly · 08/05/2020 14:59

What worries me is the very elderly in our village who don't seem to be abiding by any rules at all. Still all going to each other's houses, all having their kids and grandkids round

Surely you mean that you're worried about the kids and grandkids of the elderly in your village not sticking to the rules as they keep visiting their elderly grandparents.

Same old mn ageism. Why is it always the old who are to blame.

Yes, they shouldn't be going to one another's houses, but I assume the kids and grandkids are not having a gun held to their heads. If they didn't get into their cars to go and visit their elderly relatives then the elderly in your village wouldn't be having visits from their kids and grandkids.

So not really just the elderly who aren't abiding by any rules then.

etopp · 08/05/2020 14:59

People are actually having others into their homes? That’s crazy

It really isn't. What's crazy is worrying about what someone else is doing. Everyone needs to go back to work so they can stop thinking about what other people are up to.

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 14:59

I'm not down playing people's losses, financial or otherwise. But I'd rather be alive to be able to rebuild that life than dead.

My fear is not getting the virus really - my fear is people dying, esp my own loved ones, the economy starting up again and just being able to go back to “normal” for everyone’s mental health and the most vulnerable people in society.

It’s all about balance. We can’t have everyone die because of a virus and we can’t have everyone lose their job because of it.

If the bouncy castle guy doesn’t work at all for the entire period of time then there’s a massive chance he’ll lose his business. If he does work then there is a infinitesimal chance he’ll have a car accident and add to the NHS burden.

It’s not great but there is no ideal scenario here.

TinRoofRusty · 08/05/2020 14:59

it’s a good job I don’t live anywhere like LA, with a handy gun about my person.

Because then you'd be in jail, where they really don't give a shit if you catch a virus and die. Hmm

FFS.

midnightstar66 · 08/05/2020 14:59

I agree that the tips should reopen, our tip has recently been “done up” and redesigned, it would be very easy to dispose of rubbish safely.

But according to your logic OP driving to the tip would be an unnecessary journey. Much more so, according to guidelines than the bouncy castle guy who is going about his work and can also very easily deliver and keep all safe distances. Is this a case of just picking and choosing which ones suit you?

etopp · 08/05/2020 15:00

People not adhering to lockdown and social distancing are the people who are actually murdering those that don't have a choice but go out. And yes, I do call it murder because you know the consequences. It's not killing people accidentally, it's bloody murder

This is, in short, codswallop.

TinRoofRusty · 08/05/2020 15:02

Those silly elderly! Hmm What about fat people? Males (and especially those age 40+)? Shut them all up! They're all going to DIE, murdered by bouncy castles and people having their grandchildren over, I tell you.

DrDreReturns · 08/05/2020 15:02

What about the economic point Op? When economic deprivation causes more damage than the virus?

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 15:03

A build up of waste has the potential to cause a huge hygiene issue does it not?

You forgot BAME people. But we mustn’t acknowledge that because apparently it’s racist, while ageism is fine.

YE420032c · 08/05/2020 15:07

There are some people out back of me having a bar-b-que in the garden and making a lot of noise. But they are a family so allowed to. You cant keep kids quiet and people have a right to use their gardens if they have them. I just put ear plugs in and turn the music up.

midnightstar66 · 08/05/2020 15:07

Are your bin men not still operating? Surely only sanitary and food waste poses any risk? Millions of people get by day to day without visiting a tip. Now your definitely just making stuff up to suit you.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 15:08

I was listening to the news yesterday (I am trying to limit it) and they were saying more BAME people might be dying because there are more in front line jobs than white.

I thought that was really fucking depressing.

Toothsil · 08/05/2020 15:08

@madamebee yes re people with facemasks not abiding by the 2m rule! There was a woman in front of me in Tesco yesterday, wearing a mask and gloves. She took AGES using the disinfectant on her trolley handle, I was hanging back at least 2m but she came very close to me after she had turned round and was moving away, then at the scanners she picked up her scanner and just stood there so nobody could go and collect one, and then she kept coming so close to me, I couldn't get away from her. She also had her partner and newborn looking baby in with her 🙄

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 15:09

I don’t think the statistics or the science support that. Unfortunately, they’re more susceptible to it.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 15:10

We have clients who often have a build up of rubbish in their gardens and it often causes infestations of rats.

So no I am not making it up as I go along, and what if everyone starts fly tipping?

OP posts:
WutheringTights · 08/05/2020 15:12

But the hospitals aren't at capacity, so not getting into your car to avoid putting strain on the nhs isn't needed. There are over 3,000 spare icu beds per yesterday's press conference, the nhs Nightingales haven't been needed, and doctors are telling people to go to hospital as they aren't as busy as they should be at this time of year. I read somewhere yesterday that so far this hasn't been as bad for the nhs as a bad flu season. The main difference as far as I can see for the nhs is that it's harder to look after Covid patients than flu patients as it's a more severe disease so the ppe requirements are hard going on staff. And despite all these "rule breakers" we've still flattened the curve so I'm fairly relaxed about people doing perfectly legal things that don't accord to some people's opinions of what's allowed or not.

DressingGownofDoom · 08/05/2020 15:19

Where does it say anywhere that you can't have a bonfire?!

DrDreReturns · 08/05/2020 15:19

Things are getting more relaxed here (Worcestershire.) Our chippy has re opened and the garden centre has also re opened. Anecdotally people I know say the roads are getting busier.

Weallhavevalidopinions · 08/05/2020 15:20

I think the problem with our country (versus what others have done) is that our 'lock down' was a half hearted weak thing with so many buts....

Not people are talking about leaving lock down - what lock down ....

Personally I find some of the things people are told off for strange when others things are deemed ok...

Yes, we have neighbours who clap from the windows Thursday nights but have their grandchildren over during the daytime...ummm strange but there you go. No moaning if they get the virus... however, it our part of the country there are very few cases and deaths are a very low number so I get why people feel everything is alright... in London though.... well silly but that's there problem I'm not going to get heated up about it..

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 15:21

She also had her partner and newborn looking baby in with her. I’ve seen a few of these... it’s an odd one!! There were people stood having a chat in my local supermarket too.

DressingGownofDoom · 08/05/2020 15:22

'People not adhering to lockdown and social distancing are the people who are actually murdering those that don't have a choice but go out. And yes, I do call it murder because you know the consequences. It's not killing people accidentally, it's bloody murder'

Literal violence! Biscuit

midnightstar66 · 08/05/2020 15:27

The people who are not utilising their household waste collection correctly to have their food and general waste removed are unlikely to then bag it all up and put it in their car to take to the tip. Any non food or sanitary related waste isn't really a health hazard but if it were to be for whatever reason the council will still be responsible for that. I've had a clear out and have a load of stuff waiting for the tip too fwiw and it's annoying but definitely non essential as the necessary stuff is being collected. Opening the tip because people will break the law by fly tipping otherwise isn't a good reason or we could apply that reasoning to anything. Let's just forget the lockdown as a few people will break it ....
