People who aren’t quite getting it...

I wouldn’t comment IRL and am not part of the Stasi post on FB with “reported to police” written in capitals which I am quietly finding quite amusing.

But a few people are posting are posting stuff on SM with “and before you judge me XYZ”

Friend who posted last weekend “having a bonfire this afternoon so just letting all my neighbours on here no so you can shut your windows” erm - you aren’t supposed to be having bonfires because of the risk of added pressure on the emergency services if something goes wrong, everyone is cooped up inside and it’s foul and some of those people might be shielding because of impaired lung capacity.

Photos of children on a bouncy castle in the back yard, “before you judge me there was no contact and the guy cleaned it all” yes but the point is it’s not exactly an essential fucking journey is it?!

And the people moaning about traffic on the roads - erm you were there too but your reason is “justified” because you are a key worker? “The park/beach was so crowded” so I came home - BUT YOU WERE THERE TOO!!!!

No, it’s a term used for people who make up rules all of their own and get hysterical about other people breaking them. HTH.

YouTheCat · 08/05/2020 13:27

Why does it need spelling out? Bonfires cause toxic fumes. Anyone with lung issues is going to be badly affected by that. I wish common sense was infectious.

I don't care if I'm a dementor snowflake. I care that thousands of people are dying. Being confined to a house for a few months is nothing in comparison.

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 13:28

I think dementor is a fab word for this! Why does the PP who said it need a well thought out argument? Against what? I think OP has misunderstood the government advice which didn’t say that only key workers could go to work. Hence her post becomes moot and not worth having a well thought out argument too.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:28

Birmingham, Surrey, Dorset, Devon fire brigades all do.

OP posts:
ViciousJackdaw · 08/05/2020 13:29

Oh really? That pesky fire service eh, advising people not to have bonfires and the bloody government instructing us not to undertake non-essential travel. I had no idea they were making things up! Well fuck me backwards, you live and learn.

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 13:29

My local fire service has nothing on bonfires either however I think they should be generally banned along with those awful chimneas. And it does make me feel like a bit of a dementor for thinking that!

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:30

Erm I haven’t actually said people shouldn’t be going to work.

I just don’t think bouncy castle hire is essential travel is it - which is government advice.

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 08/05/2020 13:31

Our government advice has often been in direct opposition to the advice of the WHO.

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 13:31

ViciousJackdaw you have misunderstood the government advice with regards to working. And I repeat that the bouncy castle guy is fine to drive to his customers house....

SpratsOnParade · 08/05/2020 13:32

Birmingham, Surrey, Dorset, Devon fire brigades all do.

They might but clearly it is not a national policy. I've never had a bonfire in my life and probably never will btw.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 13:32

Actually you have said people shouldn’t travel to go to work. Try rereading your post.

Whitney101 · 08/05/2020 13:35

I just don’t think bouncy castle hire is essential travel is it - which is government advice.

I get your point, but the bouncy castle guy might find it is essential if he needs to keep his business going to feed his family.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:35

@Alsohuman no I did not, please reread my post.

I was saying that people are slagging off others for driving to work while not knowing why those people are out and about but justifying their own reasons.

OP posts:
CinnabarRed · 08/05/2020 13:37

I don’t understand this bit at all. Surely, yes, key workers absolutely do have a justification for being on the roads?

Chloemol · 08/05/2020 13:37

As someone else said a percentage has been built in to assume some won’t comply as they don’t think it is their responsibility.in a way we have been lucky as our lockdown has not been as extreme as Italy, Spain or France. That said as more and more bend the rules we will be heading for a second lockdown and my thoughts are this one will be like Spain, Italy or France, far stricter and mainly because ,uppers can’t be bothered to adhere to rules now

WyfOfBathe · 08/05/2020 13:37

I just don’t think bouncy castle hire is essential travel is it - which is government advice.
It is work for the bouncy castle company, so it's essential travel...

I was saying that people are slagging off others for driving to work
... which apparently only you are allowed to slag people off for?

Freddiefox · 08/05/2020 13:37

The message isn’t weak at all. I’ve watched every government briefing given since the beginning of lockdown and the message could not be any clearer. Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives. If that’s not clear to you then I suggest you’re being wilfully daft.

Oh please.. we’ve had:
Don’t work:stay home
if you can work while social distancing then work
Mask maybe of some benefit.
Masks for work
Essential shops can stay open - so buying paint is now essential.
You can go out but remain 1.5 metres apart.. oh no make that 2..
You can’t travel to exercise.. oh yes you can.. but don’t sit down.

It’s messy

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:37

Yes of course but how do they know all the other people aren’t?

What worries me is the very elderly in our village who don’t seem to be abiding by any rules at all. Still all going to each other’s houses, all having their kids and grandkids round. *

How do the grandkids get there without help from their parents? So the kids are as guilty in this as the 'very elderly' but it's only the grandparents you're worried by?

MN ageism at its very best! Congratulations.

grecianwomen · 08/05/2020 13:38

My neighbour who must be nearly 90

To be honest if I were 90 I wouldn't be wanting to spend my remaining time shut indoors by myself either.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:39

@grecianwomen so they can go out and spread/infect others?

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 13:40

You said this, OP. If that isn’t insinuating that people shouldn’t go to work, I don’t know what it means.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 13:41

No I wasn’t insinuating that at all!

OP posts:
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/05/2020 13:41

Few select neighbours here too who think the rules don’t apply to them or germs don’t spread on bank holidays. The fines should have been higher and lockdown stricter.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 13:41

You might not have meant to insinuate that but you did.
