For so many reasons recently. I feel so, so sad about what has happened to our country.

Yes brilliant government. Perfect? Of course not.

KingJarvis · 10/05/2020 08:31

Brilliant government?

Yes, just because it’s not the Left’s approved thinking, doesn’t make it wrong.

CherryPavlova · 10/05/2020 08:59

Brilliant? Corrupt is a better word. Self serving, Lying. Inept. Uncaring.
Lots of words but brilliant doesn’t feature.

emz771 · 10/05/2020 09:01

I strongly disagree - I really think we are fortunate to live in such a great country.

Alsohuman · 10/05/2020 09:10

I’m ashamed of the Left in this country

Are you now? You may not have noticed but it’s not the left that’s been running the country for the last ten years.

CherryPavlova · 10/05/2020 09:11

The highest but still underreported number of deaths despite being an island and having advanced warning from rest of Europe.
Continuing to fail our NHS.
Giving very large sums to cronies.
Brilliant? Really?

emz771 · 10/05/2020 09:12

Yes really. We are incredibly lucky to live in the country.

Alsohuman · 10/05/2020 09:13

Jesus wept. Some people have low standards.

emz771 · 10/05/2020 09:14

That may very well be true - but I’m not one of them.

weepingwillow22 · 10/05/2020 09:20

There are two types of people that consider the UK government is doing a brilliant job:

A) the ignorant
B) those for whom the government is facilitating them to build wealth to the detriment of the vast majority of the population.

Which one of the above are you?

emz771 · 10/05/2020 09:22

Is that two types of people fact?

I would like to think neither.

EdwinaMay · 10/05/2020 09:29

I think a welfare state hasn't helped.
I really noticed how run down things looked - clearly councils are not spending money on maintenance - Manchester in particular.
People in the past cleaned outside their shops/ houses, picked up litter, of which there was very little. EVERYthing is left to the council or the gov now. No personal responsibility for anything.

Greengrassgravy · 10/05/2020 09:41

I'm not ashamed to be British, not proud either, I detest flag waving. I am embarrassed that the country voted in Boris Johnson and seem completely taken in by his showmanship and wile ways.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/05/2020 10:13

Jesus wept. Some people have low standards.

Indeed but others seemingly have to concept of how lucky they are.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/05/2020 10:13

No concept

Oneliner · 10/05/2020 10:16

It's a shit hole and I wish I could I leave.

Cattenberg · 10/05/2020 10:24

This government has all but stopped funding local councils. They are now expected to be “self-funding”. Regular increases in council tax aren’t enough to make up the shortfall, so we’re paying more for a greatly reduced service.

Funnily enough, this government hasn’t compensated council taxpayers by reducing income tax accordingly, except for the wealthy few. Where is all that money going?

EdwinaMay, I don’t leave litter myself, but you’re right that I don’t wish to take responsibility for picking up other people’s rubbish and dog mess.

Greengrassgravy · 10/05/2020 10:30

I really noticed how run down things looked - clearly councils are not spending money on maintenance - Manchester in particular. We visited Manchester this time last year - just the centre for a day trip - but I thought it looked great. Lots of money seemed to be invested in new buildings etc...we travel quite a bit (or did) I genuinely surprised by these comments.
Have you been around King's Cross recently, Shoreditch Brick Lane King's Road, Notting Hill, The Canals around Islington, Southwark, the new train stations - London Bridge, BlackFriars, The food Markets in Borough, Broadway Market (to name just two) - it's amazing what they have done there, so much happening in London. Where in London did you go that you found dirty and soulless, rather than the vibrant multicultural city I loved. Granted around Oxford street is pretty shabby - but that's nothing new especially the Tottenham Court Road end - no one really wants to hang around Oxford Street - except maybe for ill-informed tourists and hopefully they will venture a little further to see something worthwhile .

Ginfordinner · 10/05/2020 10:30

Indeed but others seemingly have no concept of how lucky they are.

I think, that unless you have lived elsewhere during this pandemic you can't really compare what it would be like not living in the UK.

This came up on my Facebook feed the other day:

To be so ashamed of my country and being British?
Teateaandmoretea · 10/05/2020 10:35

I think, that unless you have lived elsewhere during this pandemic you can't really compare what it would be like not living in the UK.

I think you need to see the bigger picture of life. It isn’t about one pandemic. People are tortured, live in war zones and suffer famines.

Cattenberg · 10/05/2020 10:43

@Ginfordinner, I read only yesterday that the post-Brexit US-UK trade talks have started. I’m supporting the 38 Degrees campaign to try and keep the NHS off the table.

emz771 · 10/05/2020 10:56

Why can’t you leave?

Alsohuman · 10/05/2020 11:10

It may have escaped your notice but we’re in the midst of a pandemic.

emz771 · 10/05/2020 11:17

I meant generally speaking - the poster didn’t sound like her hate for the country was a new thing - and lock down has only been in place 7/8 weeks.

Wondering why if she hated this s**thole as she puts it - why she is still here?

I think it’s a fair question.

ooooohbetty · 10/05/2020 11:22

It's weird how one mob thinks that a lot of people who disagree with them are 'mob'.
