Would you report a neighbour for this?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and I don't even know if it's allowed to be honest.

Would you report a neighbour for smoking cannabis in their garden?

A couple live next door to us and smoke cannabis everyday. I haven't reported them and I won't but I just wondered, would you?

If yes, why?
If no, why?

I'll begin, I won't because it doesn't really bother me. They don't create any noise, it's only once a day and I'm happy minding my own business. They also happen to be nice people who we get along withSmile

I wouldn’t no

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 07/05/2020 22:50

No, for the same reasons as you, plus it would be rank hypocrisy on my part!

Lampan · 07/05/2020 22:55

No! I have experience of this and it doesn’t bother me. I would never touch drugs myself (I’ve never even smoked a cigarette, that’s how square I am), but people smoking cannabis doesn’t bother me at all. I think nowadays you smell it pretty much everywhere anyway so I doubt the police would be particularly interested, I’m sure they have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Merryoldgoat · 07/05/2020 22:56

No.

avroroad · 07/05/2020 22:58

Report to who?

The police? They won't be interested

Their landlord? Also won't be interested

The local council (if council houses)? not interested

Social services? Also won't be interested unless reason to believe child at risk. Cannabis alone isn't a reason.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/05/2020 23:00

I can't imagine anyone would be interested.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/05/2020 23:00

X post.

florence28 · 07/05/2020 23:01

@avroroad I'm sure you can still report to local council even if they're not council houses? Would they not pass it on to community protection officers? I'm sure it's their job to deal with this like this? Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though

dayswithaY · 07/05/2020 23:01

Don't waste your time, no one will care. I have dealers dropping off weed to my neighbours, I don't even notice anymore as no one is prepared to do anything about it.

gamerchick · 07/05/2020 23:03

You're wasting your time OP. There's loads of stoner losers on here.

Try a normal smoking thread, you'll get more support

Ok. Remove the part where I mentioned council houses. They still won't be interested.

Hunnybears · 07/05/2020 23:04

No. I’m not sure they could be ‘done’ for using it at their leisure? Never tried anything of the line but that’s my basic understanding- hence I’m not sure the benefit of informing anyone? They’ll know it’s you so will just cause a bit of an awkward situation

Idontbelieveit12 · 07/05/2020 23:04

No. Have had neighbours the same and didn’t, although one was sectioned after having a little psychotic episode and the landlord found a cannabis farm in the attic!

imsooverthisdrama · 07/05/2020 23:04

I was sure although I may be wrong that the police don't prosecute for personal use .
I mean is it bothering you ? No so unless you know they are dealing leave them to it .

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2020 23:05

God no. I hate the smell but if it's not drifting into my house, it's none of my business and even if it was drifting in, I'd just ask them to move down the other end a bit.

Regarding police/council, they really don't have the resources or the inclination to bother about someone having a joint in their own home.

If they were dealing/growing, that might be another matter.

Idontbelieveit12 · 07/05/2020 23:05

No idea why the word little is in my reply

Sparklesocks · 07/05/2020 23:05

@gamerchick I’m not a ‘stoner loser’ as you so eloquently put it. I just think police resources are better spent in other areas than someone smoking a joint in the garden 🤷‍♀️ I’m sure many others feel the same, especially during a world crisis.

CoffeeRunner · 07/05/2020 23:05

Neighbours both sides smoke cannabis. The smell is revolting. I still wouldn’t want to report them as I see it as their business what they get up to.

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/05/2020 23:05

I wouldn’t unless I had other concerns like children not being cared for.

avroroad · 07/05/2020 23:06

You're wasting your time OP. There's loads of stoner losers on here.

Just to clarify I am not one of those. I am dead against drugs. Never done them and don't tolerate them. I just know through bitter experience that reporting gets you absolutely nowhere.

Iwantacookie · 07/05/2020 23:08

No because apart from that which doesnt really bother me anyway they are lovely people and ide hate for them to leave and get worse neighbour's.
If they were horrible neighbours I might but otherwise no. I've lived next to a nightmare neighbour I dont want that again.

user200000000 · 07/05/2020 23:10

No.

I'm not a stoner loser either.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 23:12

As long as it wasn't connected to any antisocial behaviour, no I wouldn't.

The sooner they legalise cannabis for medical use in this country, the better.

TerrorWig · 07/05/2020 23:12

I wouldn't unless it was causing an issue for me.

Some of my neighbours smoke in the summer time. It's not often enough to bother me.

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 07/05/2020 23:12

No. Hate the smell tho
