To worry when My friend says she's a light worker??

sttropezlegs · 04/05/2020 08:50

Name changed, but frequent poster.

Close friend of mine has started a fbook group and invited me in. In this group she has started doing videos and appears to have a number of followers now. In this group and in videos she claims to speak to spirit guides (including princess diana!!) and calls herself a light worker

I have never heard her talk of any of this before. We live a far distance apart so granted, most interaction between us is virtual so it is fair to say, I don't know all that's going on with her and don't claim to. She's just never mentioned anything like this before. We speak weekly, sometimes more.

This area is something I know nothing about, and I'm worried by the videos.

Is this a real thing?

@sttropezlegs. Think id b looking out for signs of either a breakdown or checking this cult out.

angelfacecuti75 · 05/05/2020 17:56

Binauneral beats are the meditations that help you concentrate aren't they ? And hypnosis can be used to induce sleep etc. I frequently listen to sleep meditations on you tube / reduce your anxiety stuff. I would have never thought it was an issue . I don't know where I stand on the other stuff. I'd probably be worried too -but if its not hurting anyone (including her) I'd maybe try and find out more information to see if it was and of it wasn't I'd go about my life same as normal, as you say you don't see her ...

exaltedwombat · 05/05/2020 17:59

Boredom and stress can make otherwise rational people weary of reality and attracted to ...something else. Maybe a mainstream religion, maybe something even further off the wall. 'Well, it COULD be true!' gets confused with evidence.

If she (or the organisation she's got entangled in) doesn't want your money, play along if it amuses you. Don't cut her off. She may need support when she comes down to Earth.

Sissyjd · 05/05/2020 18:02

Ginfordinner: are you on glue?
YASSSS lmfao ...thank you!!SmileGinGinGrin

Oh my days, your friend is a fantasist

All this contacting the other side crap is simply mumbo jumbo. It’s fine if you want to humour your tiny little mind into believing it but don’t force your fantasy beliefs on others.

A long long time ago at a place I was working at we had one of these believers in the accounts office for a freight company dealing in mainly clothing imports and exports. The accounts dept was all women, many middle aged. One lunchtime I popped into their office for some stationery as that’s where it was kept. They were all sitting around in a huddle for some reason.

When I asked what they were doing one said that ‘Sheila’ was trying to contact the ‘other side’ I simply tasked what ‘Sheila’ was and the reply came back that she was a Medium

Quick as a flash I replied ‘oh that’s handy, we’ve got a box of dresses in the warehouse that might fit’

Funny enough she never talked to me again and left soon after. Good riddance!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/05/2020 18:07

I enjoy a bit of woo. But I understand your concerns for your friend.

Is Rescue Mediums on british netflix? Its a canadian production where 2 mediums visit houses, starts with their "eery premonitions", then wait for spirit activity, then send unwelcome spirits into the light, then present the findings of their research on who they think they rescued (immigrants from Ireland usually) and then ends with them enjoying a drink and a cheesy pun. No one else has ever seen this entertainment!

LastTrainEast · 05/05/2020 18:07

It's easy work if you can stomach it. Friend is either coldly planning to con people or she is a victim and will still be conning people, but blindly.

We should never have allowed this kind of thing to flourish. Because 'we didn't want to be mean' we smiled and nodded and let people con the vulnerable and recruit the gullible.

If someone says they are a healer then show them a paper cut. If they can't fix it there and then show them the door. Same for all the other mediums, psychics and people who are 'spiritual' or 'sensitive'. Prove it or shut up about it.

OgoPogo8 · 05/05/2020 18:10

I have no problem tolerating all sorts of religious or spiritiual beliefs that I personally think are nonsense.

But when you're using a belief system to make money out of people in anguish, you deserve to be condemned for it.

TheChampagneGalop · 05/05/2020 18:11

Oscars Ha!

I'm allergic to woo after a mentally ill friend with delusions got really into the spirits thing. He didn't want to take his medication, it prevented his communication with the spirits!
And the worst thing that many "spiritual leaders" are ready to scam these vulnerable people and earn money.

CrisPbacon · 05/05/2020 18:14

If shes not a con artist she is deluded and by deluded I mean psychotic.
As in having strange, unexplained feelings. Possibly hallucinations; visual or auditory and no insight that this is abnormal.
I'd be worried too, perhaps she has been in a situation that has made her more vulnerable to a mental health crisis

Petlover9 · 05/05/2020 18:15

Could she find out what happened to Maddie McCann? When something bad happens and nobody has any clues, these “spiritualist” types NEVER have anything to say or any answers, if they did the police would have their own “mediums” - just saying. -

JimmyTheWeed · 05/05/2020 18:17

A 'light worker'?. Hmm Never heard that expression.

Taliya · 05/05/2020 18:26

Maybe she has always been clairvoyant and mediumistic. Some people just are and have been like that since children. My way of looking at is its just like any other talent being artitstic, or musical. It's not generally accepted in society so maybe she hid her abilities for years and only now has opened up about them. If you feel uncomfortable with all this then just say it's not really for you but you respect her beliefs and value her frienship..If you do value it!

keeptheaspidistra · 05/05/2020 18:27

I thought this was going to be an essential/key worker type thread. NGL, kinda amused by what it really is Confused Hmm (No offence to, erm, "lightworkers intended)

Lucyloula · 05/05/2020 18:33

Being a light worker means you hope to bring light in to the world through kindness and a more focused spiritually lead path.
Channeling has been around for a very, very long time. Our intuition in many ways has its origins in this. I’m surprised and slightly disappointed by people’s negative response. It doesn’t sounds like she is trying to make money out of it but just delving into a new aspect of herself that is spiritually driven?. If we are going to survive as a species and stop polluting this planet for material gains we are all going to have to be more spiritually aware of a oneness and unity that unites and does NOT divide us. I think it’s wonderful if it brings her and others closer to their higher self/ source/ god whatever you want to call it but wouldn’t advocate her taking money for it.

Drama123 · 05/05/2020 18:33

I consider myself to be a 'spiritual' person. I won't go near it. I've had some horrible experiences and steer clear.
The 'light' isn't always the light.

TheChampagneGalop · 05/05/2020 18:35

I want to know why mediums aren't helping archeologists, surely they would find the tomb of Alexander the Great in no time!

silvercollie · 05/05/2020 18:38

Oh dear, just because you folk have not heard of Lightworkers and therefore have not understood, does not mean it is bad, evil, deluded, have mental health issues or whatever. I have been a Lightworker since I was at least 29 years of age, if not younger. Now I am 77 years and still working towards the Light and I am none of the above. Generally speaking we do not talk of these things, we do not need to. It is a recognition thing. You can tell a fellow Lightworker upon meeting.
I do not go along with people setting themselves up as Mediums - I most certainly am not one. Please, before you condemn this young person, know of what you are condemning her. Love and Light.

NewYearNewTwatName · 05/05/2020 18:56

silvercollie do you believe she is talking to Princesses Diana?

Are you a celestial being sent to earth with super powers to save humanity?

Have you unlocked your super powers?

what is special about 2012?

Do you do exosioms on people with mental health problems or believe they are under physic attack? do you charge £1000+ for doing the exosioms via Skype?

Because if you Google lightworker there are lots and lots of books, courses, explanations as to what they are, and lots of questions to determine if you are in fact a light worker too.

none I've seen so far are as rational as what you have just posted.

Do you think you are old hat? do think there is a more manipulative movement using the the title of lighteworker now?

Loreleigh · 05/05/2020 18:58

Lightworker = makes your wallet a lot lighter; makes light work of relieving others of their hard-earned cash! I'd advise you not to join the group and to keep hold of your money and friends not out to scam you.

KisstheTeapot14 · 05/05/2020 19:21

I also have a friend like this. I think she's a tiny bit bonkers but I love her anyway. I randomly pray for people sometimes too, even though I highly doubt the existence of an all powerful god. I might be a bit bonkers too.

Just check she's OK and if so let her carry on. Like they say with kids It might just be a phase...

Mumgonenuts2020 · 05/05/2020 19:28

Is this a Prank, is Ant and Dec making a new series of Saturday night takeaway for 2021😄😄😄

FelicisNox · 05/05/2020 19:58

She sounds like she's been through a hard time and has gotten in with a strange crowd or maybe this is her thing now.

Either way, she's an adult so let her get on with it and remain her friend as she may come to her senses and need your support further down the line.

She doesn't sound like a con artist just conned by her new friends and a bit deluded.

Sheilasfeels · 05/05/2020 20:00

God everyone is in such a rush to label anythinfgthey don't agree with as 'harmful'. This womans behaviour does not impact you whatsoever, so don't worry about it. If she tries to bring it uo, just tell her you don't get it, and change the conversation. I too do not buy into any of that stuff, but I have friends who do, and they're fine. They're not conning anyone or being conned. They just pay through the nose for massages where people don't touch you. Doesn't affect me.

silvercollie · 05/05/2020 21:16

Thank you Lucy Loula

New Year New Twat Name - Just read Lucy's post.
I will ignore the majority of your post - not a good look.

You can never be 'Old Hat' when working towards the Light. But you may be correct in that the term has been high jacked. Much as the old Hippies were a more peaceful group than the new ones.
Also, if this shut down does not encourage people to be just nicer to each other then what a wasted opportunity.

Some of the replies to the original post are verging on hysteria.
