Changes to Tesco slots?

ExhaustedFlamingo · 03/05/2020 22:13

Family of four, been shielding due to pre-existing health issues (me), and been managing to grab click and collect slots - with a great deal of effort.

I think the supermarkets have done amazingly well increasing capacity, and if I'm not lucky enough to get a slot, I understand. There's so many of us trying, I don't blame the supermarket at all if I'm not successful.

But here's the thing. Talking to my mum yesterday over Skype - she is a pre-existing delivery saver customer, which may be relevant. I could only see slots up to 22nd May - everything taken for click and collect, and delivery (we haven't taken any delivery slots because we can manage click and collect). Anyway, she could see slots up to 29th May!!

She is local to me and we were comparing slots for the same branch. She's basically able to see slots a week ahead of me. I've refreshed/reloaded etc and I'm a week behind her. Does anyone know the reason for this? Are Tesco giving preferential booking to those who were existing delivery saver customers?

With a huge amount of effort, I'd been able to get click and collect slots but for the past fortnight or so, there's been absolutely nothing. I'm wondering if Tesco have changed their philosophy and are now giving delivery saver customers advance booking? It's the only thing I can think of to explain the difference.

I've got absolutely no problem at all not being able to get a slot if we're all trying at the same time. It's hard for everyone and we can't magic up more slots. But if Tesco ARE offering advance booking to their delivery saver customers, then there's basically no chance for the rest of us. Mum said for the week ahead - which I can't even see yet - there was only one slot left for the Friday and that was the last day on what she could see. So, in other words, when it gets released to the rest of us, no bloody wonder there's nothing left because they've already been taken! Aaargh!

I'm making sweeping assumptions here as mum isn't on any kind of list so that's the only reason I can think of.

I have managed to get slots for click and collect with Asda - did our first one today. Tons of stuff substituted or out of stock and not substituted - don't normally have the same problem with Tesco other than the odd thing here or there. I've got two autistic children, one with quite profound difficulties, and while they eat quite a reasonably healthy diet, they've very rigid. Not being able to get certain things is a real headache - substitutions don't work. Deep sigh.

I really don't want to sound like an entitled brat, and with so many people ill and dying, I realise that this is minor. But has anyone else noticed this or does my mum have access to some magical Tesco portal that's blocked to us mere mortals?

First post so please don't slay me for sounding like a whiny cowbag.

Oh, well that was a bit longer than planned.....

Medal for anyone who reads to the end!

Hmm. I have been trying for a week to get a slot. I can only see the same dates as you OP.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:15

Delivery pass customers have always been able to see 3 weeks rather than the 2 weeks that non-pass customers can see

mrsed1987 · 03/05/2020 22:19

Ive always been able to see 3 week ahead too, and i am not a delivery saver customer just a regular one

KittenVsBox · 03/05/2020 22:20

Yes, delivery pass customers can see further ahead. It was slightly different when this all started, as something slightly different happened over Easter. It is normal Tesco operations.

I'm not sure if ALL the slots are available for week3, or if some get added later - given the increased number of delivery Tesco now have available, there will be way more slots than delivery saver customers. I'm not sure if delivery saver customers are also restricted to one delivery a week?

IndecentFeminist · 03/05/2020 22:22

I think I had heard that somewhere, yes. But I am starting to see slots popping up here and there now.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:25

As a business Tesco will obviously want to prioritise 1) delivery pass and on government list and 2) delivery pass customers who were paying extra pre-CV and will probably continue paying when things calm down. Tesco have a good clue how many slots these customers want as they were using the service pre CV

Pre-CV there were plenty of empty slots round here. I could always book almost any time for the next day. The extra slots that they have created and the slots that used to go unused are probably the ones available to everybody else.

Are you logging on at midnight and checking admirer 2am for the slots that people forgot to check out? I've anecdotally heard that lots of people find extra click and collect /delivery sits going live at random times of the day

Tobebythesea · 03/05/2020 22:26

I’m on the saver plan. Can see ahead for 3 weeks. After a lot of checking, we managed to book 2 slots, 1 for next week and 1 in 3 weeks. Try the app if you’re not already on it. Some people have managed to get a slot by logging in at about 5 to midnight and refreshing. I randomly logged in at 7am and slots were there. Good luck.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/05/2020 22:26

But OP’s mother can see four weeks ahead, while OP can only see three.

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:27

Delivery saver customers can see an extra week, I have managed to get a weekly slot from May 12th because of this, you can only have one slot a week though and once you have booked your slot you cannot see any more for that week

EnglishRain · 03/05/2020 22:27

I've not managed to get a Tesco slot for a couple of weeks now. My last click and collect is this Wednesday.

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:31

Up to May 30th is available to me but I cannot see any slots now as I have already booked one each week

oohnicevase · 03/05/2020 22:32

I think so because I can book a week ahead of my sister .. I've been paying for the saver for years .

LavenderLilacTree · 03/05/2020 22:32

I have been a delivery saver for many many years. I haven't been able to get a click and collect (haven't tried fur a delivery) for weeks. It's a nightmare as I have 4 kids plus am shopping for a neighbour. Shopping tahrs hours each time. I have always needed to do a big shop twice a week as we use so much food.
I don't think long standing delivery savers have any advantage over new members. Not sure why the discrepancy between you and your mum.
Can I ask you manage to get the slots? I am constantly checking the app and stay up until midnight about 3 times a week to try and get a slot then but no luck. I get so anxious going shopping and it takes so long. I would LOVE to get a click and collect slot, even though I know you only get 80 items, it would still help.
All tips gratefully received OP!!

RoseMartha · 03/05/2020 22:33

I can sometimes get one just after midnight or have been lucky on the off chance get one for the next day when checking randomly.

Otherwise I have managed to get a slot at Asda. The longest I have gone between getting a slot is about 12 days. Including using asda when i cant get any tesco.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:37

Lavender- I find that the website and app show different info with regards to slot availability. Some people have better luck with the app but I find the website is better.

Headbangersandmash · 03/05/2020 22:39

I think that availability varies wildly. I manage to get a delivery every 7 days.

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:41

I usually book mine in the morning for 4 weeks ahead now, so last Wednesday, I booked Tuesday 28th May as I am a midweek delivery saver customer. On Wednesday I will try and book 1st Tuesday in June

Justnapping · 03/05/2020 22:44

So I think when it is a bank holiday Delivery Saver customers see a week ahead... That is What happens at Christmas, and there are two bank holidays in May

Parkmama · 03/05/2020 22:45

I don't know about preferential slots for those with saver passes etc but I do know that I have never managed to get a delivery but I have managed click and collects if I am patient and wait until almost the last minute. I keep seeing the slots being released for literally the next 5 days which makes planning ahead tricky. I check the app frequently through the day and don't see a pattern to their release. It's so frustrating but I think you need to be on the case checking slots with all the supermarkets. I have an ASDA delivery tomorrow, Tesco Click and Collect next weekend and a Waitrose the following. I spoke to the Tesco Click and Collect guy the other week and he was quite certain that it's branch specific and said that particular site was getting another van and more staff to support Click and Collect so I guess I'm saying I don't think there's a strategy applied by Tesco as such. However I would concur that there is probably a priority for those regular customers who have previously invested in passes. Good luck, it's a part time job in itself coordinating shopping at the moment!

Sheeeeesh · 03/05/2020 22:46

I have found slots by logging onto the main website rather than the app.

DaisylovesDonald · 03/05/2020 22:47

Delivery saver customers can see slots up to 4 weeks away. I’ve also been a delivery saver customer for years and this changed a few weeks ago. I’ve seen it since in an email from them as well.

AveEldon · 03/05/2020 22:49

It's true that delivery savers can see 4 weeks vs 3 weeks for everyone else
Each account can only book one delivery per week

Ask your mum to book slots on her account to deliver to you

ScarfLadysBag · 03/05/2020 22:49

Yes, it's a recent change where delivery savers see a week ahead so get first dibs on slots. It changed maybe two weeks ago? As I went from not seeing any to having my pick of slots now!

RedRiverShore · 03/05/2020 22:49

I have never used the app as usually use desktop for shop
